I have always had preferred loger recurves believing that shorter bows would pinch my fingers, stack badly and werent accurate. Well about a Week ago I bought a nice 73-75 Kodiak Magnum at a garage sale mainly because of the price($25). I have to tell you I absolutely love this bow. No pinch at my 27" draw. It is smooth and shoots where im looking. Compared to a 62" 3 piece takedown it feels like a feather in my hand. Does anybody else Feel this way about their K mag?
God Bless,
Buck

I have 13 of them,thats about all I hunt with.and I draw 29" and hunt with a super kodiak,once in a while.and still have my first one since I was a kid a 1969 40lb.

Good Bows.
People are always afraid of them breaking with longer draws. I would be afraid of any old bow breaking because of improper storage before a long draw.
I saw an old Fred Bear movie where they were highlighting the K-mag. the guy drawing it had to have at least a 30 inch draw if not more. I bet you could get the limb tips to almost touch before it breaks.
Enjoy your great find

I had a Bear Kodiak Mag. in 45 lbs that I used for bowfishing. My Nephew was getting interested in archery so it went to him. I really did like it though. Got a lot of Carp with that bow.

I just love my 1967 K-Mag, but I've been using my 1967 Griizzly lately.

I had a pair of K mags until the wife got interested in trad archery. Now we both have one
-
Me too, I loved it. I've still got it listed on what I own but in a pinch I was stringing it through the leg. Big mistake! Mine was a lefty at 72lbs.!!!!!! Couldn't shoot it accurately now anyway I guess.
-
I have one of the Grayling green K Mag, 45#, from the early 70s and absolutely love it! I picked it up earlier this year, and it is my first Bear bow after a lifetime of wanting one. I wouldn't trade it for the world now.

One question: I'm running Easton aluminum shafts thru it currently, but do these bows seem to like the wooden shafts better? It's been on my mind to give them a shot, but thought I'd run it by the forum first to see.

thanks everyone, it looks like I have lots of company on this wagon.

I have a '72 K Mag 28" @ 45#... I love mine....I bought it from a fellow Trad ganger on here.. THe only thing I do notice is if I dont concentrate on keeping my bow hand steady it is less forgiving.....Other than that its great bow...
-
1972 Kodiak Magnum...paid $75.00...good price and give up my wheels(15years)! Shooting fairly well out to 15 yards...lightwieght and very easy to carry.
-
Nice line up (again) Jack!!!! Beautiful looking bows.
-
I sold one at Denton Hill this summer, so I'm down to one - a '65 48#er that i'll probably never part with.
-
Ttt just because I love the Kodiak mag
-
Count me in! Love mine!
-
I dont own one but I have shot a few, it seemed odd to me but the one I shot the best was about 5# higher than my normal draw. I would sure pick one up for the right price.

Always nice to see when you post those pics of your KMags Jack

Killed my first bowkill with a K-Mag in 1976 still use it today when turky hunting out of a blind.Sold the orginal at 55lbs and bought a 50lb.after I got old and cannot handle the heavy weight bows as easy.Great little bow
-
First 8 deer I killed were with a Kmag bought new in 68 for 39 bucks.
-
Just received one today in the mail. Beautiful Grayling mid 70's bow at 45lbs. Nice shooting bow and it is my first kmag.
-
A '62 was my first bow in '62. A 48# bow it shot really great. Used to shoot short 26.5-inch size 1816 24srt aluminums with nibs and three inch feathers which were just longer than my 25.5 to 26 inch draw length at that time. They flew out of that bow hard and seem to flatline to short targets. When I switched from woodies to those short target arrows, I shot over all the targets.
It was retired except for hunting in January 1963 when I bought a new Tamerlane for field archery. That magnum was a fantastic hunting bow which went up a lot of old black jack oaks, sycamores, and persimmons trees with no problems. However, those two bows were good for their time, but I like longer bows than the Magnum and less wood and weight than the Tamerlane now.
