Hello to all. I have been reading this forum for about six months and finally thought I would add my 2 cents. I gave up on compound bows about seven years ago. My first trad bow was a Bob Lee takedown recurve. I had more fun hunting and shooting with that bow than I ever had in the woods. For the last couple years I have been shooting a one piece Bob Lee recurve. A few weeks back I decided to try a longbow. I decided on a Howard Hill Wesley Special. This afternoon I went out to shoot this bow for the first time.
Man, I am hooked. I shot better groups with this bow the first time than I have been shooting with my recurve I've been shooting for two years. I can't wait to hunt with this bow. Thanks to everyone on this forum as I have learned a lot here and really gotten motivated to do more with traditional gear.

Thanks guys. I really like this bow. I need more practice and tuning before I will be confident enough to hunt with it, but it will be a blast to hunt with when everything comes together. I hope there are more Hill bows in my future, but for now I am happy with this one. The quality and workmanship are great.

Welcome fellow east Texan !!!

Welcome to the tradgang family.
I'm happy that you found a bow almost immediately that suits you.
I had to spend a few years and more money than I care to admit getting to the same place you are now.
On the other side of that coin, I had a blast shooting a lot of different bows along the way getting here..lol
Congratulations!!
God bless,Mudd

Sweet! Sounds like you're a Natural LB shooter & that's cool!

Welcome to the campfire! I haven't shot a Hill yet, but I do love my BamaBows, same style as the Hill. You just can't beat the smooth draw of those long limbs, and they are more tolerant of my less than perfect release.

I'm shooting my "new to me" Abbott longbow. I probably won't hunt it this year as I have two recurves tuned up and can grab either and the matching arrows and go whenever I get a minute. I'm experiencing the same thing, though, with the first good groups coming easier than I was ever able to get dialed in with the recurves. Maybe there's a change in my future.

Congratulations for your Howard Hill bow. I use to dream with the day I will have my one. For people living here is not easy to buy from US, we have to pay at least 100% fee over the bow + shipment value.

Welcome Hillbro. How about a pic & some specs of that beaut?

As a recurve shooter thinking of ordering a LB. What drew you to that bow and what do you like about it so much? I'm trying to figure long bows.
-
don't you love that 'THUMP' a long bow makes. My first adult bow was a pearson compound, It sounded like a screen door being slammed when I shot it.
THUMP is better.

Congrats. Glad you found a bow and welcome

Thanks for the welcome. I will try to get some pictures up soon. The bow is 68 inch 60# at 28,
four lams of bamboo, one of cocobolo, handle is cocobolo, black glass on back, clear on belly. I have always liked the looks and history of the longbow. When I decided to go trad and get rid of the compounds, a friend had a Bob Lee recurve he wanted to sell cheap so I went with that. I liked it but wanted something different. Bob Lee's place is close to where I live so I went over there to look. Rob Lee was there and helped me alot. Super nice folks, let me shoot a bunch of bows, even one of Bob's personal bows. I ordered a new recurve which I have been shooting for three years. I wanted to try a long bow so I looked around, then found this forum and started reading. Convinced myself to go with the HH and am not sorry. It is so light, slender, smooth and fun to shoot. Feels like what shooting a bow and arrow is supposed to be like.
