I went hunting yesterday evening in a pop up blind on a water oak. I killed a deer earlier this year with my Hill bow there in a misty rain. It was sprinkling on and off yesterday so I decided to go sit the blind again and keep dry. I settled in and noticed two new rubs and a paw mark on around the edge.Looking good.....The light sprinkles are dropping on the top of the blind....
I feel something like a bug maybe in my pocket and grab at it and realize its my cell phone vibrating. I open it up and my Wife has sent me a text....You coming Home..are you OK?
I look at the time and its...9.00 pm. I been snoozing.RC

Must have a clear conscience! (Or be hunting too much, and we KNOW that can't happen.)
At least you should be better rested for tonight's outing!
-
RC buddy you crack me out!
:archer:
-
:biglaugh: that is funny

RC old buddy, when you get our age, it's called napping....and it's ok!
-
What kind of seat do you have in that blind? ;)

The main reason I started wearing a harness, can't stay awake in a tree stand. Could stay on the ground but once fell off a five gallon pail while dreaming of big bucks.
-
That is funny RC, been there and done that myself before, then wake up mad wondering what all you missed during the "nap"! Good stuff!
-
RC,
You must not use a 3-legged stool in your blind. I've used one several times and ended up falling asleep and falling to the ground. What a rude awakening that was! :( :)

I use a reguler coleman camping chair. I have an ameristpe brickhouse that I`ve left in a small branch since Turkey season. I sprayed the top of it with water reppelent and it has not faded very much and does not leak. since it has been there so long critters have taken it as part of the swamp.First time I sat in it when I killed the doe a few weeks ago I had two groups of turkeys come by feeding on water oak acorns. One hen I could have reached out the blind and grabbed by the neck. I`ve seen two longbeards and 6 jakes as well as about 15-20 hens.3 deer and killed one of those. The huge water oak has really just started to turn loose and will drop acorns till December probably.Turkeys will be there in the spring as well as a Mohawk and some Simmons Interceptors...RC

Can't say I had that happen to me...
My wife usually don't call me unless I forget to be there for Church the next mornin. :biglaugh:
-
That's a good one RC. My wife would probably just send the Life Insurance guy and pray :biglaugh:

Oh the old I've fallen asleep in the blind excuse. Man did she really fall for that one. It was poker night wasn't it????
-
I guess that's why we use a harness in a tree stand. It's pretty easy to fall asleep in a ground blind if the action is slow, and you get warm. Having a cell phone is a good idea for hunters.

Also would have been me sleeping as well. Blinds get too comfy for me. I've probably missed all the big ones while I was sleeping.
-
Havent been on many outings but that's why on the ones I've gone on I tell my family when I get in the tree and when it gets to be dark I give the a time to start worrying Haha.
-
Man RC you could have had a jump on the morning hunt.
woops.
-
Ain't nothing like sleeping in the woods!!! Best rest a man can get!!!

This coming from a guy that once shared a box of wine with another Dude while sitting in a pop up blind.......what excuse did you use? :dunno:
-
RC, that's a hoot!
Thing is that truth is always stranger than fiction so just go with the truth!
I won't say much other'n that, If I didn't laugh at my own silly antics, I'd miss a lot of humor!
 :D

x2 on that!
I have also been known to snooze in a turkey blind. The sun comes up and hits the back of the blind, my back begins to warm, the turkeys stop gobbling, and ...zzzzz
-
I was thinking it would be a snake story.
Sleeping, eh? AND fessing up to it!
At least you didn't wake yourself up with a big SNORK.
-
I have been known to do that in my treelounge on more than one occasion. So far the worst example was waking up and trying to reach over to turn the lamp on next to the bed.....couldn't quite reach it. If I recall it was around 10:15 when I woke up, no idea when I dozed off but my wife told me that there was no use going back there as no doubt my snoring would have scared every animal within a mile!
-
You are not the first guy to fall asleep in a pop up. One of my favorite (and most frequent) places for a nap. Pop up blinds are especially good for an early morning nap during spring turkey season.
-
Wait until You do that 18' up in a tree stand.
You get a break that first few seconds when Your trying to wake up and it pitch black out. Then You realize what You've done and thank Your lucky stars You don't move around a whole lot when You sleep.
-
 Now that's funny RC! Looks like you gave the critters a break that night.
-
...And five minutes before your wife called, the biggest deer you've never seen walked right past broadside at 15 yards, turned to look in the opposite direction and put his near leg forward to fully expose the vitals...
:)
-
That Is Funny RC, I hope your wife was fine with it.
Take care man.
-
I can idenify! Do some of my best sleeping in the woods. I know it has cost me one big longbeard, no telling what else.
-
If it had been me, all the critters would have gone home and told scary stories to their kids about the awful noises coming from behind that strange bush thing. Probably would have scared a few hunters with my snoring too!!
-
Too funny sounds like you have a good spot shoot straight:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
-
RC some of my best hunts have been while I was sleeping.I always got my deer in my dreams.
-
Woke up once to find a young doe staring at me from about 5 yards away. I must've been snoring.
-
I once had a wood pecker wake me from a good sleep while I was 15' in my Summit Bushmaster, hard to believe he wanted the same tree I was in though. ;)
