I have some CX 250 heritage shafts that I am trying to install brass insert (or any inserts for that matter) back into and I cannot get them anywhere close to going back in. What should I do?
-
Try getting in there with a bore brush or a little roll of sandpaper.Sometimes the old adhesive will bind your insert and Ive found that the Heritage do not take well to heated inserts that I have used with other shafts.

Ok, these were the first(and only) arrows i ever ordered fully made. So i'm not sure what was used for the inserts.
That might just be the difference from my usual experience with removing and reinserting these things.
I will try the sandpaper.

I use a 243 cal. steel bore brush in a electric drill to clean the shaft. then a Q tip with cleaner.
-
if the bore brush doesn't work put a tip in the insert, then put the tip in the end of a drill and work the drill while wrapping the insert in some sand paper. ....it works

Just a thought, are they the correct size inserts?

I,ve had the same issue. Its old adhesive. I have a round rasp that fits just right. Took a lot of elbow grease to get that stuff out. Don't try to for the inserts in. I've wrecked shafts doing that.

Rat tail file. May want to try new inserts also if they are all gummed up.
-
I've had that problem too. I put a field tip in the insert, heated it, cleaned it with a scrubby pad. Quick & it gets all the old glue from the insert.
-
I think they're all good suggestions but Butch beat me to it... there can be a lot of residue on the insert itself.
I've done the point in the insert and then spun it in a drill with sandpaper on the insert to clean it down some. Just be careful w/ brass you don't alter the dimensions..we're talking .00X here, not a lot of material to make it too tight to go in...or too loose to fit snug and then be off center.

I would also give an insert some torch time to see if that takes it off or reduces it to something you can take off with a wire brush.
