Title: Reusing limb savers?
Post by: xtrema312 on December 13, 2011, 10:59:00 AM
Anyone ever do this?  What glue to use?

I have never done it, but I know I would never glue one on to re-use it. I'm sure 3M makes a double sided tape strong enough to do it without gluing them on.

I agree with the double sided carpet tape idea as a first choice.

I'm not sure if it would work or not, but Barge Cement might be the only glue that I would consider.  At least if it doesn't work it can be removed without ruining your finish.

I was thinking something like Barge Cement, but have had a hard time finding that anywhere.

Go to an office supply store, and get the small dots that are double sided tape,  I think 3M, same thing that they use at the factory.
In the pre-trad days, used to have to re-install them on the wheelie.

Don't waste your time with the double sided carpet tape (sorry Whip). It does not work.

If anyone finds out which dots work, please let me know.

Barge cement works great. Clean off the old residue down to the plastic, wipe the surface well with 99% Isopropil alchohol (both the limbsaver and the spot on the limb). Apply the Barge cement to both the limbsaver and the limb and let dry for 15 minutes. "Carefully" place the limbsaver where you want it, press it down firmly, I use a plastic ruler or ?? and go under the Mushroom part and press the outer edge of the plastic base down firmly. You should leave them for a while before you use the bow. I've never had one come off yet. As with fletching arrows etc., the important thing is to get everything really clean first. Should be no problems,....Lloyd

I have used 2 sided tape.......no problem ,It works! took them off a bow I sold and put them on my Zipper. Still on there, been 8 weeks! Make sure you clean the limb with Alcohol or something like that!

Walmart has industrial two sided tape, it's red and holds very well, check the sewing section.  Most all my bows have used limbs savers on them.

They said to use 3M tape.  Looks like I will try to find some of those dots.  It would be fun to play with them on different bows, limbs, and spots on the limbs if they are easy to move around vs. buy new ones.

Yep carpet tape. Have a set on a bow for about 4 years now. Clean the limb good as stated above.
