Title: Looking for a wool felt hat
Post by: perry f. on December 13, 2011, 01:08:00 PM
I'm looking for a wool felt fedora style hat. I like the packer hat that 3 rivers has, but some of the reviews say that the stitching  has some issues plus it doesn't retain shape after being rained on. What do you guys have?

I don't maintain inventory and don't list them my website any longer, but I can still order any hat from Bailey of Hollywood.  I'll send you a PM with the link to their website.

Contact "WHIP"(Prairie Traditions) a TradGang sponsor or NogginTops. They will have what you want depending on size. Good Luck.

I purchased a Bailey of Hollywood "Sterling" at the Dallas Safari Club gathering last year. Bison wool felt, very comfortable and stylish. Let Whip order it for you.

The real Fedora

I have one of their $40 hats (their own U.S. make!) and it is very well made.

Though I also have one of the Three Rivers Borsalino knock-offs and it is a great hat as well.

I'm a hat fanatic but my "go to" hats are Filson packer hats.  The 2" brims don't interfere with shooting (for me).  I have three of them... a lightweight "cover cloth", a medium camo "shelter cloth" and an insulated "tin cloth" with pull-down wool earflaps.  I guess they're not true "Fedoras" but they're close in shape.  They make a  wool packer hat (http://www.filson.com/products/wool-packer-hat.60025.html?fromCat=true&fvalsProduct=mens/hats-gloves&fmetaProduct=1011)   as well.

I have an Orvis Lite Felt that I've had for 10-15 years.  Not sure if they still offer it, but it is incredible! I have been out in heavy snow and rain and my head is always dry. It sheds water like a beaver!

I just picked up a Henschel Outback. It was at a small store in VT for like $30

Filson are great hats if you have a more round than oval head. The wire brim on mine does not allow it to go very oval (guess what shape my head is) and therefore its not very comfy to wear for long. Otherwise an outstanding hat.
