Title: Katie's Buck story!
Post by: LadyKiller on December 14, 2011, 02:03:00 PM
Thank you everyone!!!Sorry I could not respond sooner though. So this deer is my 8th deer, very fitting for the 8 points. I have shot all does and just one spike. Every year my boyfrind would shoot a nice 8 point and i would just see does all day. This was the biggest deer i have seen in this spot, im so used to spikes and does!  I just had my Bob Lee recurve custom made, its my 4th bob lee, and received it in the mail last tuesday and we went out and bareshafted it on friday. I was sick all last week and didnt have a chance to hunt at all. When i checked the camera on Friday morning i saw him coming in  some mornings and almost every evening. I finally felt well, so Sunday i went out and got in the tree early, about 1:30. I didnt see anything for awhile and thought, well another day of no deer. About 4:20 or so i had two four pointers come in and a nice doe came in five minutes after them. I figured i was going to try to take the doe, but about 10 minutes later there he was...I hoped that he would move into a position where i could get a shot because he was facing me with his head down for about 10 minutes or so and it was about to get dark. Sure enough he turned broadside and i shot; he was about 17 yards away.I couldnt believe it! I got down after twenty minutes because i couldnt wait any longer, but couldnt find my arrow and there wasnt any blood. I started to look around where i heard the crashing, but still nothing. Its fuuny because when i was looking for the arrow i found a 3 point shed; ive never found one of them either! I waited for my bf to get out of his tree and come to me so we could start looking.Turns out the deer zig zagged through the down trees i was just looking over to the right too much. We found a few big piles of blood and about 10 yards from the last there he was. The arrow went in on the left side before the last rib and it hit the heart and lung. The broadhead hit the offside shoulder and was just poking out in front of the shoulder. He went about 70 yards from my tree and we had quite a time dragging him out. He weighed in at 170 at the butcher and i am going to get his head mounted. My Bob Lee is a 58" bicentennial recurve. Its 45@26#. I shoot the pink ted nugent goldtips, 35/55 and use  145 grain two blade eclipse broadheads, 50 grain brss insert, and 125 steel broadhead adapter.  Here are some more pics of the deer and the bow. Thank u everyone for your kind words!

Thank you so much for coming on to share your story.

We need a LOT more women, young and old(er) in the woods preserving the tradition.

You sound like quite the seasoned hunter... game camera, bare shafting, all the goodies.

Congratulation on catching up with your own 8pt to the BF , who is a lucky stiff, btw!  :)

You add class to our Trad lot and I hope you inspire many other ladies to get involved and make their own mark!

Great job I showed your pics to my wife she was unimpressed (she just doesn't understand)unlike all the guys and gals here.Katie I use Bob Lees also with G.N. quiver.Yours looks like a Q.D. on the top and strap on below if so why? Thanks Kip:      :notworthy:    :campfire:
Title: Re: Katie's Buck story!
Post by: LadyKiller on December 14, 2011, 04:08:00 PM
Thank you everyone! Kip, the quiver is a great northern. It is not mine, i borrowed it so it would match the bow because my great northen is brown. I am waiting for my black one to come in the mail so i have a matching set! the strap is on the bottom to keep the fletchings behind the lower limb.

Katie I am very happy for you for getting such a fine trophy buck . Your story brings back memories of when I took my first nice buck . I know when that big 8 point stepped out you got the " big eye buck rush " heart pounding heavy breathing and all . Thats what makes nice bucks so special and great memories to come  looking at that fine mount hanging on the wall .            :clapper:
