We will be holding the event on Saturday February 18th, 2012. It will be held at the same location as years past, Sleepy Hollow State Park. The park has graciously accepted our group again this year and will be giving us the use of the park Shelter for the day. The shelter includes a nice fireplace to help keep you old farts warm :) The festivities will begin at 8:00 AM with target shooting, the iron bunny, and some general BS. We will then head out hunting the dangerous and ever elusive Cottontail Rabbits! At 12:00 PM we will convene back at the shelter for lunch followed by the raffle. This year the money raised from the raffle will be donated to the Devos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. After the raffle you can hang out and BS, shoot the targets, head home for a nap, or head back out hunting.
Would you like to donate items to the raffle? We would love to have them!!
The official Michigan Bunny Stomp thread for more information and to post your raffle donations! (http://www.tradjournal.com/index.php/forum/2-campfire-traditional-talk-only/3620-annual-michigan-bunny-stomp-to-benefit-the-devos-childrens-hospital#3620)
We will be doing the raffle a little different this year in an effort to speed things up a little bit. We will be limiting the amount of items raffled to around 30. We will NOT be limiting the total amount of items donated to that amount though! What we are planning on doing is taking some of the smaller items and raffling them off as a lot. In years past many people would get a bit bored and fidgety by the end of the raffle and we are just looking to help keep that from happening.
We are also looking for some participants to bring a dish to pass for the lunch.
-
Sounds like a good time! What's the cost to get in and cost of raffle tickets?
Dan
-
It is free to join in the fun! No cost for showing up and having a good time. If you can, bringing a dish to pass for lunch or adding an item to the raffle table would be appreciated, but is definitely not necessary.
The only cost will be to enter the park:
If you have the PARK passport when you registered with Secretary of State you are all set...If you do not have the park passport. Each vehicle will need to pay 10.00 for the state park passport at the park...There are no longer daily permits. The 10.00 passport is good for the whole year at any State Park in Michigan

This is the best organized group hunt in the state of Michigan! :campfire: :coffee:
-
Kevin, thanks for the information I have 3 beagles that are ready to go right now, but I wait until all of the deer seasons are over to get them running. Sounds like a great time I will have to make this event.

The last few years this hunt has been held on the same day as the MLA Awards Banquet, otherwise I'd be there. Have fun guys!
Paul
-
Hey guys-Will you take an ol' bowhunter from Whitmore Lake? lol I'm gonna make this hunt and look forward to meeting all of you! Thanks.
Kenny :bigsmyl:
-
Hey kennyb....love Whitmore Lake....keep my boat at Mac's...see you at the Stomp!
-
You can still make the Bunny Stomp if you are going to the MLA banquet, we hold this event in the morning and the banquet is not until the evening... and Sleepy Hollow is not that far from Fowlerville
-
My wife and I are expecting our first baby Feb 15th. We ha a blast last year but will not be able to make it this year:(.
-
Yeah Paul we have always shot for the Saturday after Valentines Day. Just seems to always fall that way.
-
You guys are right. I'm on the MLA council so I have to get to the banquet early to help with set up. But if I hunt in the morning and leave around lunch time that would give me plenty of time. I'll plan on it. Thanks.
-
Good to hear Paul!!
-
im looking forward to stomping around with my bros!should be fun as always to see everyone.
-
Glad to hear that Paul! I know it makes for a busy day... But at least you'll be spending all day with your brothers of the bow!

Yup we try to accomodate those going to the MLA banquet, nothing like a morning hunt and ending the day bragging about it at a awesome banquet!

Who will be the first to pin wheel the iron bunny............... or should i say...who will be the first to break an arrow?

Congrats again Doc - haven't kept up with things on FB since I deleted my account.
I'm gonna try to make this event this year, as it's only a short drive from my house. If I'm not working, I'll be there.

Yep...Jandin was one of only a few last year to put an arrow through that bunny. When she got up to the line, the person there asked if she wanted to move up a little closer. Jandin rolled her eyes, drew back and skewered it.
We'll definitely be making it next year though.
-
I can confirm you can do both the Bunny Stomp and the MLA Banquet...if you want to...I have done it and encourage it. Drew and Chad...does the guided Carp shoot include a complementary swim too? Will be there!
-
I usually go to the hunt and banquet. It's a nice way to spend the day. I'll be there.
Matt
-
Looking forward to seeing you at the stomp Matt...bring lots of arrows :)

Something along those lines ;) although she wouldn't try a second arrow.. :p
The iron bunny had quite a few arrows slip through last year...I may add a few surprises this year!

I had to hear about it all the way back to West MI. "Uh, can you believe they asked if I wanted to move up?!" But in cocky, I know I couldn't do it twice in a row kind of playful tone. But still, I broke an arrow, so I got to hear about it.
It sucks. :knothead:

Snow??? I don't think winter has even thought about starting here yet!! It was darn near 50 degrees today in western Michigan! Hopefully that will change in a few weeks. This has to be one of the easiest starts to a Michigan winter I can remember.
-
I have a feeling when the snow comes we will get more than we want JMO.

-
I sure hope Kevin remembered to order the 3 inches of snow for this event :D
-
Snow would be nice, but I think it will be a good time with or without!!!
-

oh c'mon Mr. Wilcox hitting a brown bunny with no snow will be a good challenge for a skilled archer such as yourself!
Besides wait till i unveil the "re-furbished" iron bunny!
-
How many bunnies will be spotted and how many do you normally take? We have lots of rabbits this year, but not many hunters. I hunt every weekend and have 23 from one ranch alone. We give them to needy folks. All are cleaned and ready. Would love to hunt with you all
-
We don't take too many, but have an awesome time! It really depends on the year as to how many we see, might be 4 or 5 or it might be twenty! Hitting those buggers when busting the brush for them is tough, thick briars, lots of places that they can run and still stay hidden, and lots of spots you jump them and you cant find room to get your bow up... but I enjoy the challenge, the exercise and especially the friends.
Getting close boys, better dust off the brush pants :D
-
Sounds like another good group....
You guys/gals are going to have a blast... Wish I could make it...
Can't wait for the pics and stories: :campfire:
-
Snow? We don't need no stinking snow!! It makes it to hard to stump shoot and find your arrows!!! :biglaugh:
-
roadkill it's public land so it depends on how hard the hound hunters chase them and the how the weather is..let's just say the rabbits we hunt are in survival mode all winter so it makes the hunt quite a challenge! Not to mention sleepy hollow is a swampy area with briars and autumn olive...when the ice on the lake is good, there is access to several island that the brush is so bad you cannot get through it!
Would love to have you up sometime!
-
23 bunnies from just one ranch  Man boys we got a lot of room for improvement :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
-

-
Well maybe snow after all????????
-
Got some good news, might have 5 first timers comming down with me. One has never shot a trad bow in his life.
-
Jeff...let me know if you need an extra bow for them to use during the hunt......I also got word that the group from Dewitt will be there....we'll have a great turn out'
-
Steve, I didn't know you had an extra bow.
The count down begins...
-
Jeff, shoot me a pm if you need extra bows, have a 15# and a 35# if you need a spare for kids, Todd
-
Thanks for the offer guys but we have the bows covered. Three of the guys have there own bows just the one needs gear and we got it covered. Thanks bunches!
-
Just fletched up some possible casualities for the Iron Bunny, had some beat up shafts that will still fly well but not be missed much, arows are ready for there chance at 5 minutes of fame, or death by the bunny.
-
hey guys! if I show up to the bunny hunt, do I have to shoot at the iron bunny?!! lol
Kenny :bigsmyl:
-
The iron bunny is the best part of the stomp... Of course you have to shoot at it :D
-
4 days and a wake up then watch out Sleepy Hollow State Game area :archer2:
-
The Iron Bunny will be sporting a new look and maybe hold a surprise! Right now he's a snowshoe hare sitting on snow! haha (actually just all white primer coat, i'm not QUITE that mean!)
Hmm, i kinda like the snowshoe hare idea!!!
-
This years game will be to see who can pull a arrow out of Bob W quiver and shoot the Iron bunny with it, now that would be damn funny.

Yes it is, but by the time we get through the iron bunny, get everyone together for a group pic, it'll be prime bunny time! besides we try to keep short so those who want to make the MLA banquet can get outta there at a decent time!
Hope to get a chance to chat with ya, it's been awhile!

Really you can get there anytime between 8:00 and 8:30 or so. We will probably do the iron bunny around 8:30 or 8:45 AM, we will plan on hitting the woods for the bunnies at 9:00 AM or so.
Getting there at 8:00 AM will give everyone time to BS a bit, shoot the target bales to warm up, take a look at what is on the raffle table, and drop of luch items.

Daisy and the bunny of the day....I believe this fine bowshooters name is Mike. We missed a second rabbit 8 TIMES!...I missed it twice myself. It was a good day.
-
(http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h227/rnorris/DSCF4002-4.jpg)
This young man (JC) impressed me. I wanted him to kill one in front of Daisy badly. He did get a shot. We were both shooting in some pretty thick stuff....and the sun was in our eyes.... :bigsmyl:
-
The bunny killer was Tom.....owner of sand lake traditional store...And he is a fantastic shot.
-
Ooops...sorry for the wrong name....I think I called him Mike a couple times! He was a great guy to hunt with!
-
Funny.....I see these same faces every year...and can't ever remember a name......it sure is a great time though....turns us all into kids again.
-
Who else took pics?
-
Congratulations on great fun and fundraiser. Daisy looks like a real bunny hound!!

Having the lucky number for a Two Tracks "Pure Michigan" bow, I'll bet that youngster was happy.
Great event guys looks like a blast....
-
Thanks for taking pictures, Roger. What a great way to spend a day. That would be worth a flight up if I weren't tapped out from Kalamazoo.
I am glad that I am not the only person with Name Retention Deficiency. Heck, it took me five years to learn mine.
Killdeer :wavey:

You would have loved it Killee....maybe next year!

What a great way to spend a day. That would be worth a flight up if I weren't tapped out from Kalamazoo.
Did you really have to buy five bows at Kazoo? ....
I was planning on going but something came up at the last minute. :( Didn't anyone take a group picture?..
-
A couple guys took a group pic... Just waiting on a post! Come on Drew!
-
Jake did seem pretty happy. I will hook him up with a good one.
Who was it that won the St.Joe River Bow? I think that feller had plans for a grandson or something.
Good job to Tracey and David for that donation.
Thanks to all.
CTT
-
The killer in the pic with Daisy is Tom Hackbardt from Black Dog Outfitters. He always donates stuff for the hunt. He's a hell of a shot on game. I saw him shoot a rabbit on the run through a woven fence! He's the west Michigan trad shop guy.
-
That was Tim Fishell's dad, Eldon, that won the St. Joe River youth bow. He does a lot of work with youth and the bow is definately in going to be in good hands!
-
It was great to get outside and to meet some of you. Congrats to Tom on the rabbit, and congrats to that last rabbit for surving the gauntlet.

Looks like you will have to get him some new arrows though, seems like his quiver was empty by the end of the day. Whites and barred sure are hard to find in the snow, hope to see him at more of the trad shoots. Thanks to all for putting this on again this year. Todd

Thanks to everyone who put the stomp on, this was my first one but definately wont be my last. I got to hunt with Daisy the wonder beagle and enjoyed evry minute. Haven't hunted with dogs since I was a kid with my dad and grandpa. Thanks to everyone who brought the food and donated the stuff for the raffle hope you can keep this going for a long time. Hope to see you all there next year!

Did Mich. Outdoors TV show up to film it?
-
Yes. Jordan came and filmed up until lunch time. He said he would let us know if and when it will air. He said it should air within the next few weeks if it does.
-
Hopefully they will air it. It would be great press to show a great group having fun and showing that they're raising money for a great cause at the same time.
-
It would be awesome if it was on Michigan Out-of-Doors TV. The only thing that may hurt your chances is that they just showed a traditional archery bunny hunt a couple weeks ago. Best of luck!

Anyone remember who won the bowfishing trip?
