Just got my copy yesterday, and watched it last nite, and have to give a "thumbs up" review to Jim and all the guys that put together a first rate show! Nicely done, especially for a bunch of Montana hicks.....
I'll have to watch it over again here soon when the boys come over for Christmas. Once again, a very good video from Jim and his "crew".
-
Alright Mark, how did you get before I did? Maybe a little instate favoritism! LOL.
-
Another thumbs up...watched mine Wed the 21st.
-
where to get a copy of this dvd?

I hope mine shows up today! Gonna be a long weekend if it doesn't!
-
I hope mine comes today.
-
I got mine yesterday (12/22) too, but haven't had a chance to watch much yet. The 20 or so minutes I did see are great! Good quality stuff, worthy of selling in any retail store in the world.
Thumbs up!

-
Still waiting on mine- Hopefully today as I will need this as a excape from spending the day with the inlaws!!!LOL
-
Mine shipped yesterday with the riser I had Jim stipple for me. Can't have too many hunting DVDs to watch while working out.
D.P.
-
Just got mine. Woo Hoo! Merry Christmas everyone!
Rob
-
I just watched it too. Very nice. That late season whitetail footage reminded me of me!!!
If anyone is interested I would like to trade for Essential Encounters. Posted in classifieds just now.
-
I've been faithfully checking my mail every day, but not early xmas present for me! :dunno: I guess I'm going to have to wait until next week. Darn anti-hunting postal worker is probably snickering right now!
-
Merry Christmas to all and ME! I just ordered it!
Brad
-
I didn't see this thread and started my own about this dvd. Probably my favorite trad hunting dvd so far. Great job guys!
-
Got mine yesterday. I am off all week and I am sure I'll have some time to check it out soon.
-
Lookin' forward to mine arriving, too!
-
I received mine a couple of days ago and watched about a third the first night and then started it over and watched the whole thing yesterday. Good stuff, a no pretense account of hunting, things you can really expect in real life situation, not always what you imagine (Toby’s? moose hunt). A brunch of guys doing it there way and making it work for them, Get R Done mentality comes to mine, thanks for a great production!
-
OUTSTANDING DVD!!!!! The treestand bull elk hunt was worth the price alone  Only "problem" I see so far is that now I want to shoot a Centaur ;)
-
Just got mine. Will watch tonite!!
-
It is first rate. Love it. Highly reccomend it.
I am not sure of the running length, but it is a
nice long DVD! No worries of getting shorted there fellas' Lots of action,I love the slow motion shot re-caps they did.
-
For those that have watched it, is it mostly tree stand hunting or are there some walk and stalk hunts as well?
-
Excellent DVD. I highly recommend it!! Great job by Jim and his friends.
-
Combination of Tree Stand, Ground Blind, and some spot and stalk, but mostly Tree Stand for the whitetail deer.
-
Has anybody else who ordered on the 19th not received their copy? I'm still waiting anxiously. Was it sent UPS or postal?
-
Mine came today. Just finished watching it. Great stuff right there !!!
Bill
-
Keep me posted Mike, I will send another out if you don't get it soon.

Very well made, enjoyed it.
-
First Hunting Video I have purchased in ~15 years.
**Well worth the wait**
Sure hope Jim is working on another one.
-
NBK, I got mine yesterday and it's worth the wait. Very well done.
I also received my Traditional Bowhunter magazine yesterday and my Trad Archers World the day before. Almost like Santa paid a second visit!
-
Mine came in yesterday. Great job Jim. Excellent hunting footage, great music, and obviously done with reverance and respect for the game. Again, well done.
-
Watching mine tonight with a friend. Looking forward to it after reading all of this.
-
The mail has been held-up here with the main road washed away, but it has reopened today. I suppose the post office will be pretty busy trying to catch-up.
-
Back up for 2012!
-
Great video! Thanks for a classy, refreshing, and entertaining hunting video. You fellas put some effort into this one and it is appreciated.
-
Overall 2 thumbs up! I was confused though when the footage of those huge mulies came up and then it went to the Whitetail segment. The script was a bit distracting for me also. Maybe these old eyes are just not used to that fancy lettering! Definetely one of the best hunting videos I've seen in a long time!
-
I agree. I got mine a few days ago. Excellent work for a 1st effort. I might even say "awesome".
-
I think the producer was just trying to show good b-roll of deer before he rolled into the actual hunting footage which happened to be whitetails but I can see what you are talking about. Probably would have been better to have footage of whitetails right before it flashed the word "Whitetails" on the screen.
-
Got mine today ....... :notworthy: Well done, very entertaining........
-
I enjoyed the video.
-
Would like opinions on what some of you would like to see if we do a second one.
-
IF YOU DO A SECOND ONE.....I think it's mandatory that is a number 2.....lol. Just keep it real like the first. I really liked the bear that rolled down the hill after running just a short ways.
-
Just ordered my copy.
-
Watched it today, Awesome job Jim and friends. One of the best traditional videos I have seen. Worth the $ and time to watch. I will likely enjoy it many more times.
Jim in a second one, I like to see more closeups of kill shots, hits. More lead up to the shot (the hunt or adventure). I think you may need a dedicated cameraman if you are going to do this. I think you guys did a great job with some self filming, I have tried this myself and it is one tough job and you did it well.
-
Hummer3T, I think your right about the designated camera man. Was out tonight and filming myself. Everytime I went to draw on this doe, I would have to take my hand off the camera and put it on the bowstring. She was nervous and she would look at me. I would stay motion less until she would look away. As soon as she looked away, she would walk. My hand was off the bowstring and back on the camera to keep her from walking out of the frame. This happened over and over. I thought about backing up a little with the zoom but then you would not really get to see the impact of the arrow. When I finally got the shot I slightly backed off the zoom and led her with the camera........and the arrow.LOL Right in front of her by about 1/2"
Boy would it have been a cake walk had I had a cameraman!
-
Jim, I have been trying for years to get footage for a video, Not sure how guys(gals)do it by them selves. I have either gotten some footage or a shot, not both. Unfortunatly I usually try for both and get nothing on either end. You had some great footage and shots on your video. Again great job, I'm looking forward to your next work.
-
Jim, my only complaint is that you didn't smack that big buck roaming around in several of the scenes. I mean, geez man, you could try a little harder next time. Great video and I really love the campfire segments that have some true emotion coming out.
Derrick
-
Awesome film! I would've liked to have seen more information on that boar that got smacked. But it was great to see that heavy Hill in action. That fellow sure can shoot that Hill!
-
More footage like the bull elk shot out of the treestand......Ive watched the DVD a bunch and STILL keep goin back to that shot....to me that captures what its all about!!!!! To me when I watch a dvd and catch my heart racin as things unfold or sayin WOW over some scenery or a nice lookin wild buck movin thru the timber then I know its for real and thats all you can ask for. The players can be about anybody or any place, its the "real" factor that sets things apart and you guys hit a home run with that! That 'real' factor is also going to be the reason its going to take 3 more years to see another DVD from these guys.....its alot of time/work to get that kind of quality but I'm sure it'll be worth it!!!!
-
Way to keep it real, great job especially for a 1st one.
-
my cousin would self film and got some good footage and even some good kill shots.
we started filming each other though and man, what a difference. you give up some hunting time as the cameraman but it's still a ton of fun and great time together. great footage too.
p.s. although not "traditional" lumenoks really help w/ the shot footage
-
Sound like I need to get a copy.
-
Thanks guys, we are going to try to get more, over the shoulder type shots and also some down the arrow (Archers Perspective) split screen stuff so you really get the feeling of what is happening. It will probably be another 3 years though because well...........this is real.
Jim Neaves
-
The first DVD was great !!! Not really sure you could have done a better job Jim !!!
Bill
-
Jim , got mine today here is Oz ,
Well done mate ! awesome stuff and well worth watching for hunters and non hunters alike . It is so far above the usual 'horn porn' crap that you should be really proud of yourself !!!
Was that jason Ekin in it taking that moose and grouse etc ?
-
No, that was Toby Walrath. He is the guy doing all the voice over stuff throughout the video. He certainly put the shot on that big moose and those grouse! He has a couple of different Hill bows and shoots them well. It was fun being apart of a video where everyone wears their own favorite camo patterns, shoots their favorite bow and just hunts how they want. We wanted a dvd that was more about the hunt then what was used, although we did mention in a couple places about a bow or broadhead but the main focus is on the hunt. To many of the videos out there anymore are like watching a bunch of little cloned droids with every little last piece of equipment identical to the next guys. Then hearing about how they could never have done it unless they were using the newest most expensive creams and potions to make it all happen. We always try to stack the odds in our favor but seriously? Some of those get pretty annoying!
Thanks for the support and we appreciate the feedback so possibly another one will be even better.

Got a guy from Sweden that is reviewing some of my stuff and the dvd. Here is his take on it.

Jim when I watched it I noticed different bows than what you sell and I thought now that shows your character. You said it above! not filmed with commercial crap in mind just honest hunting by honest guys. Great job again....

Very good point. :clapper:

TTT for a great bowyer/craftsman, and even finer young man! Not suprised to hear all the great reviews. Looking foward to seeing it, too!
-
Thanks for the compliments Steve. You build one heck of a bowstring!
-
I was on a caribou hunt in Canada a few years ago and the Buckmaster crew was in camp filming. Nice guys by the way, but since Realtree was a major sponsor, they were not aloud to film anyone wearing a different brand camo.
Jim-great job on the video! It was refreshing to see hunters doing their own thing without all of the gimmicks.
Doug
-
I guess when you have big sponsors like that, you have to tread lightly. Just think of all the great footage a guy would miss out on because the guy dropping the string has a camo on with the wrong name! Its like " Man, that was a perfect shot on that cape buffalo but it is completely unuseable to us because you had on Predator camo instead of Mossy Oak!" Use what ya want, we'll film it. Or send in your footage to me and I will review it. If its quality trad, you could be in the next one we do!
-
jim, got mine last week and have watched it a few times already. great video and very well done. a nice mix of hunting and scenery/philosophy, etc.. and all the hunters showed alot of class coupled w/ their excitement.
it is a little disheartening to watch some "hunting" shows and see 90% advertisments and 10% actual hunting but human nature being what it is i'm not surprised.
i also like seeing all the different bows. there's nothing wrong w/ being proud of shooting game w/ a certain bow and saying so. i doubt anyone was PAID to say anything about any bow and in jims case, he made his (and some of the others) so why not be proud! just my 2 cents
thanks again for the video jim!!
-
Jim, thanks for my copy! Hard to say anything more, on how great you guys did on this!
Truly enjoy seeing a "year round Bowhunting adventure" type film!
Deer, Elk, Grouse, and my faves, Carp, and Bear.
It's great watching with the boys, and hearing them share their experiences and saying, "Dad do ya remember when, or I saw this in the woods one time" and feel the De'ge'vou, tingles.....
-
Just got mine yesterday! The video is more then I could have asked for. I have not watched all of it but what I have seen is worth the money already!
Martin
-
May have been mention already in some of the other replies (i’didn’t go back and reread them all again) but the young man who used the most primitive of all weapons was an excellence shot! Which one??? the guy who used what God gave him his arm man what a thump! He gave that bird :biglaugh: great video need to go back and look again, thanks Jim.
-
amazing video, everything about it is just extremely well done, I really enjoyed Jims brother Bill Neaves doing the guitar work.... good stuff!!!
-
Just finished watching it. Just great. I have to watch it a couple of more times!
Martin
-
The best video I've watched in a long time.Great job jim.Thumbs up
-
Thanks Lamey, I am very proud of my brother as he is one of the best guitar players I have ever heard.
mmisciag...glad you enjoyed the dvd, thanks for the support.
Thanks for the huge compliment bear123.
-
Greetings Jim!

Keep the wind in your face!
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:

Man! I'm watching it at this moment, and had to get on TG and give it a double thumbs up! This is an excellent movie!
-
Started watchin' it tonight....
*AWESOME* *AWESOME* *AWESOME*
Thank you Jim!
God bless, Shinken
:archer2:
-
Just wanted to bring this back up. Was watching this DVD last week with some "non" bow hunters, and they were glued to the screen. They didnt realize how effective traditional equipment can be, and were silently stunned by the "connectivity" that traditional archery allows you to experience with the actual hunt.
-
Is this the same movie thats on the Simmons website? If so I am ordering one today, just from the preview it looks awesome!
-
Yep thats the video
-
Just ordered mine!!! :archer2:
-
 Since the thread is back up....I'll put my thumbs back up!
-
Man there's alot of killin' in that vid!! Just finished it up today and am impressed with how much meat these guys put in the freezer with stickbows. Great job guys!
I was mid way through the vid when my 5 year old daughter joined in to watch. Jim was about to shoot the cloven hoof doe and Ruby askes me..."Who's that Daddy"? I tell her "his name is Jim". She hesitates and replies "I'm gonna call him Lil' Yimmy!" I spewed coffee through my nose!! (I think she got the name from a Veggie Tales movie)
So congrats Lil' Yimmy on a fine video!!
-
Got my copy last week. Awesome video and very well made. Two thumbs up!!!!!
-

-
Ryan, I just read your post about what your daughter said and started cracking up! Thanks for the compliments and also wanted to let you know that I have thouroughly enjoyed watching some of your bear hunts. Yours truly Lil' Yimmy!
-
enjoyed watching it the second time as much as the first!
-
Glad you liked it Lee Viv!
-
Hey Lil' Yimmy...when's volume 2 predicted to be ready?
-
Not sure yet Ryan, just going to keep collecting footage until there is enough to make a dvd. Looks like we will have some female trad shooters on the next one!
-
I realized the other day one of the reasons I enjoyed this dvd so much. The music and the lack of music LOL!! The music fit the dvd so well. I was at a freinds house and he had on some wack and stack dvd and the music was so loud and obnoxious that it took away from the footage. They also played it to within 2 seconds of the shot, you couldnt hear the critter moving around or nothing. In Jims dvd you can hear the sounds of the woods complimented by the music.....refreshing!!!!!
-
Hey guys,
the credit goes to Heath Helgert of H2O Productions. He certainly has a way of making it all flow together. He was the guy who put this whole thing together. He is also the same guy who put the Bucket List show together on the Sportsman Channel. Great job Heath!
-
Folks, it was a blast making this dvd. I'm glad yall have enjoyed it. I never was big on filming until this little adventure. I'm sold. Filming hunts is a great way to share your hunt with the world.
Heath Helgert, our editor/producer, is one of the best in the business. Though relatively unknown, he is slowly rising to the top of the heap. Most editors are computer nerds (no offense) . But Heath is a first class killin guy who knows how to hunt and therefore knows what we all wanna see. His vision in this industry is extraordinary. We all look forward to seeing what he has in store from project to project.
I know many of yall carry a cam to the timber with you now. If you have any thoughts of making your own dvd? Then you orta look ol Heath up. (Now, while he's cheap! Lol!)
Sorry to get on my soapbox. I just don't think the guys behind the scenes get Enuff praise. While we were out having fun, trying to kill critters, Heath was sitting at the computer trying to peice together the broken fragments of footage. He really is good at making chicken salad out of chicken crap! Lol!
So again I'm glad yall have enjoyed it. I know I enjoyed being involved. It was awesome! (No pun intended Toby).
We've already got quite a bit of footage put together for the second dvd. If the Lord wills and we have a good season starting this spring thru the fall, we should be able to put another dvd out shortly.
Thanks again, and God bless, Dave
-
Just bringing this one back up for a great video.
I got my copy for Christmas this year and I must say that I think I enjoyed it more than any other video I've owned/seen. It keeps things real and is something the common traditional hunter can relate to. There's some nice animals killed, but antler size is not a driver when it comes to killing an animal. Also, the guys get excited and show emotion after the shot, but it's nothing like the jumping up and down, hootin' and hollerin', Billy Bobs you often see on televised shows. For anyone producining a hunting video, this one should be used as a template.
I hope to see a Wild Tradition II sometime in the future!!

-
Great DVD. All trad gear used by regular guys on regular hunts. Really liked the do it yourself bear. Reminded me of growing up back home in Alaska. Top notch for sure. Would be cool to sit around the fire with those guys.
-
Just reading this thread & looking forward to getting my copy. Looks like everyone enjoyed watching.
Will be very different as we can't hunt in the UK. Bet we will be wanting a trip over there after watching it !
-
I have watched mine at least 9 times. Just don't seem to get tired of it. NIce job on the DVD!
-
Hey, Little Yimmy (lol) by the way that is a Veggie Tale Character my Granddaughters really enjoy those videos (and me to).
It's 2014 now and i had a poor season as far as meat taken but really would like to see a new Wild Tradition video any updates?
-
Just FYI for those who have not viewed Wild Tradition...
If this DVD can't get you excited about traditional bowhunting...
NOTHING CAN.
:D
IMHO, one of, if not the best movie made about the subject out there. Though I admit I'm a big Centaur and Jim N. fan also LOL
