Results are out today. My friends and I drew Boggy for October 19-21. We haven't hunted that area before, it's 11,360 acres. If anybody has any thoughts on Boggy let me know.
If any other tradgangers are going to be there that same weekend let us know and maybe we can all hook up for a meal etc.
-
I'll be there the 1st weekend in November! !st time to draw Boggy, but Deer Creek has been good to me in the past!
-
Congratulations! I didn't draw out for anything this year. I've been in Hominy & Deer Creek, but never in Boggy. Hope you kill a big'un!
-
Hey Kwikstik! Howdy from Iraq!
Is Hominy a good area on the AAP? I drew hunt 342 Hominy 10/5/07 - 10/7/07 and it says Hominy. Any pointers for the early season besides bring the "skeeter scooter"? aka thermacell. What is the treestand vs blind situation? I'd think stands might be more effective?

Yes Deer Creek has been very good to you Justin judging by your pic :scared: . Boggey sounds like a few monsters may be runnin around in there though. Happy for ya Bud and everyone else. Look forward to some good stories this fall.

Can anyone point me to the right area on the ODWC digital map? I want to look for natural funnels , distance from road, etc... I need the boundries if possible.
The foliage should be thick due to all the rain we've had there. Skeeters should taking off and landing on the roads! LOL!
I'm really excited about hunting there this fall!

This will put you approximately at the intersection of Road C and Road 6. Road C runs the entire East boundary of Hominy and Road 6 runs East and West and basically splits Hominy.
Road C is a main road and one that lots of hunters will come down to enter their areas.
The way this hunt works is you have to team up with a group of folks that want to hunt in your area or as close as you can get. Then you ride in with that group you park the truck and it doesn't move till the end of the day. You must walk to your stand location from the truck. You can get dropped off on the way in if your stand is a good distance from where your parking but if you want leave stuff in the truck etc. you will have to walk back to it for lunch etc. Sounds worse than it is but this hunt is strictly regulated and you do not get to roam all over MCAAP.
Road 6 runs East and West, Road C runs North and South.
-
There was some discussion last year about letting trucks come back to camp at lunch. My group didn't pay much attention since we had decided to stay the entire day.
I'll be in Hominy this year. I've never been in that area.
I can provide a hunting map if anyone needs it. I just need your email address.

I hunted Hominy first time we got drawn. Saw tons of deer. Watched bucks fight from my stand etc. Several in our group including myself watched a big 150 class ten point couple days in a row. He knew the middle of a field was a safe spot. I did have him come within 30 yards of my tree and stand broadside in the wide open but that is just longer than I am willing to shoot. You know when the shot feels right and it didn't then but boy was he awesome to watch.

couldn't get the movie to work. probably for the best. i'm already losing sleep with excitement. will those coordinates work for Boggy as well? just curious

I'm really stoked about going there!

I'm on a mac and it keeps saying it's not a movie file. who knows? 4 more months!!

These coordinates will take you to the intersection of Road C and Ashland. Ashland runs East and West and is Boggy's north border for 6 miles from the intersection of 3920 Road and Ashland down to the intersection of Road F and Ashland. The intersection of Road C and Ashland is smack dab in the middle of the 6 mile border. Then the other half(little less than half really) of Boggy area turns North and East. Boggy is a total of 11,360+- acres.

??? Justin???
I'm on a mac also and the movie works fine.
You need to see it. The deer in your avatar may be involved. :)

lost arra, Oct.21st week end. Drew out for Deer Creek area. Have not been there before and would appreciate map and any info. Thanx D.
-
Map on the way.

I drew Hominy Nov 9 weekend. Ought to be a great time if the weather is good. Have been in boggy and deer creek and seen a thumper or two in both. Heard some hogs in boggy.I am ready to go, it's been 2 years since i was there last. What kinda map do you have Lost Arra?
-
Scott: it's nothing special. It's a pdf file of the map they give you at the hunt. It shows the roads and the different borders of Hominy, Deer Creek, Boggy, Bear Trap. It does help when you go to satellite images of the area to give you some reference points. I'll be happy to send it. I just need an email address.
-
thanks lost arra! i watched it last night on a buddy's pc and wow! thanks for the coordinates as well. i'll google earth and national geographic it ASAP.
maddawgd, i've got a spot for you in deer creek! my avatar is from DC.

Is that a big food plot toward the South end of Hominy? I wonder if they plant it every year?
I drew 5-7 Oct so that wouldn't be that much help anyway. Anyone drawn Hominy before that can steer me toward areas within Hominy to take a closer look at?
I've found a few that look promising on the OWDC digi map but ya never know till you put boots on the ground.
-
Ok thanks Lost Arra. I have a copy of that one somewhere.

nothing new?

I drew into McAlester for the first time. Nov9-Nov11 in Deer Creek. Wanted to ask if anyone could give me any ideas on a good place to possible hang a stand.
-
Never been to Deer Creek but last year the keys were:
1. Acorns
2. Escape route- The deer know exactly where the restricted area boundaries are located and when a bunch of smelly hunters hit the woods they don't mind spending the weekend in the Off Limits areas to be safe. :(
Check out Justin's yth-mnstr avatar. He knows something about Deer Creek.
-
Justin emailed you through yahoo. Finally it quit raining and have been catching up on the chores . D.
-
Ok guys, I lost all my emails when I left Iraq. If you emailed me about McAlester AAP please send it to me here or at my email addy, (if you still have it in your sent folder). Thanks. It's time to get ready for deer season.

You and I both, Lost, I will be hunting the Hominy area Oct 26-28. I am looking forward to it. This is my first time to get drawn and I am going into it blind. I don't have a clue on what to expect.
From you all that have been, what are the chances of brushing in a ground blind? Or would it be better to hang stands?
Thanks,
Trent

I drew 5-7 Oct. It's gonna be hot but I don't care! I'm just happy I drew in!. I have some areas of interest I've found on google earth but I'll have to get look at see in person.
