Title: My Toelke Lynx now has options!
Post by: Tim on January 12, 2012, 09:17:00 PM
I posted a thread just before Christmas showing off my new Toelke Lynx longbow.

      http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=111935

I've had the bow for 21 days and have already been fortunate enough to put two late season does in the freezer.  So there I was minding my own business and my cell phone rings       :saywhat:

Just before I got my Lynx longbow I exchanged PM's with Jim Wright and Tater, both of whom are very familiar with Dan's bows.  Both guys know and love "longbows", however both had nothing but praise for Dan's Lynx recurve limbs.  To be honest that's the bow they wanted to talk about.

So here I was taking off my longbow limbs and slipping the recurve limbs on the same riser!  How sweet it that...one riser and a choice of limbs.

Rather then stretch out my thread I'll post some photos and give you the specifics.

Both bows are 50@28.  I draw a tad under 28" making the bows right around 49lbs at my draw. Both are 60" and both are setup to shoot a 495 grain arrow.  Both are whisper quiet, I have wool silencers on the longbow string and rubber silencers on the recurve.  Both Strings are D-10 made by my buddie Allen Shafer. (There's your plug buddy!)

HS Longbow limbs 175 fps
Recurve limbs 182 fps

As I've said before, those numbers may seem fast to some and slow to others.  I know folks like to compare, so there you go.

The recurve limbs are a touch smoother, a little faster and have a slight bit more noise.  Emphasis on slight....these bows are both extremely quiet.

Here's the photos!.....You gotta love the ability to shoot one riser and have the option of both style limbs!  Great job Dan!

Here are a few more photos.  As I've said before I can't say enough about Dan's workmanship, plus he is just incredible to work with.  :notworthy:

Hey Pat....I knew you'd be lurking in the shadows!  Typical bowhunter! LOL....

The photos make the limbs look a little more orange then they really are, indoor photography is not real good.  The longbow limbs have a bit more brown but both sets match up perfect.  Incredible JUNIPER!

Take care buddy!

Tim, I knew you would like the recurve side of the Lynx and the fact that both your set-ups are drop-dead gorgeous doesn't hurt. I believe I told you that if I did not enjoy shooting the recurve in 3d competitions I would only own longbows. With that said I will keep the Curlew take-down Dan made me for that purpose but it is my opinion that the Lynx Dan let me shoot awhile last Spring was the finest recurve I have ever had my hands on and I have shot a number of them.

Darn Tim, just when I think I have my "perfect" bow, you go and spark my interest again!!

Whatever you do, just don't leak my wool secret!   :biglaugh:

That is a fine looking rig for sure.

Wow, Tim.  That is one sweeeeeet set-up.  I've got a whip and a Chinook with veneers just like yours.  No doubt Dan is the best to deal with.  He really knows his stuff.

Congrats on a great bow.

Beautiful bow Tim.
You are right, Dan is an excellent craftsman and an even greater guy. He'll do whatever it takes to make sure you are happy.

I love my Toelke Lynx recurve!     :goldtooth:

Tim, I certainly echo everyones comments.  As a point of interest, talk about the transition from long bow to recurve and back.  How much work/time does it take to be confident shooting either way.  What's the learning curve if any?

Hey Mark,

I found I can go back and forth between limbs without much change in where my arrow impacts.  The recurve is a little quicker and I've found my arrows his about 2 inches higher at 20 yards.  Since it's the same riser my left to right hasn't changed at all.

Tim,

My recurve limbs have not come off since the first day they arrived.  I know you and Pat change out Dan's strings, but man I can't imagine doing anything different to this bow.

Great looking bow Tim.  Thanks for sharing.

:knothead:     The only thing that has changed is my hair!  I picked up a few gray highlights      "[dntthnk]"

Now David why would anyone want to grow up? It's way overrated!

I am absolutely sold on Dan's bows...and customer service.  I called him up to discuss a used Whip that I was thinking about buying and he told me it'd be a good bow for me, but that he has had some design changes and that he'd send me an in-stock bow to shoot, free of charge.  Sounded good to me.  He called me back five minutes later and apologized that his son had sold the in-stock bow and forgot to take it off the list.  Said he'd build me one to my specs with my choice of woods just to try...again "free of charge" and send it to me!  Craziest part of this whole deal is that we had this conversation and...TEN DAYS later the bow was at my house!

Needless to say the bow is still at my house and now I'm dying to try out one of his Lynx's, always been a longbow guy but after talkin' to Dan a few times and reading this may have to give the recurve limbs a go as well!

Also wanted to mention that Dan has also been very insightful and helpful with my arrow selection for the bow and my selfbows, and given me GOOD advice on my first forray into building selfbows...GREAT GUY ALL THE WAY AROUND!

Yep, mine will be going nowhere either!  In fact I have a two piece whip on the way and have sold almost all of my other fiberglass bows...including many other top name bows...the grip and the guy sold me on these Toelke's!

Dan is building me something special that will change the way people put there underware on..should be here soon..If you are in a tree or blind this IS the Bow....But I will be comparing it with a Leon Stewart Lil Slammer, that is one of a kind.unless you have Green Bear glass that is 50 years old....pics will be only a dollar a pic,,paypal excepted...free to all my buds of course,,The ones that invite me hunting in a state that the temp falls below 60 degrees..It is HOT here in Florida..
