Title: PA res lookin at New Jersey
Post by: Matt Fowler on February 09, 2012, 08:06:00 AM
I’m a PA resident lookin’ to contact a fellow trad hunter in Jersey for some info on deer huntin’. I’m in southeast PA near Burlington and am interested in the south central zones, 21, 23, 24. Not really interested in big buck but more shot opportunity and meat. Thanks in advance.

I live in South Jersey and can tell you that early season on any WMA is a good bet, and Land trust areas are great(clubs are not allowed to hunt). Its like anything else it takes some looking into. Have you gone to njfishandwildlife.com and checked it out.
If I can help let me know.Tim

Matt, I live in PA and hunt NJ almost exclusively. It is worth the money for the license. Plenty of places to go and you never know when a big boy will show up.

Hey NJ Guys,

I used to live in Jersey (Little Silver)and hunted Colliers Mills WMA quite a bit.  Just curious how the hunting is in that area now.  I used to see a good number of deer there.  Thanks!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.
Tim, I was shyin' away from the WMAs cause they look kinda small and didn't want to crowd anybody, especially as a nonres. I always check out the fish and game website first.  Any of you guys hunt the Wharton State Forest?

Matt I have hunted around New Gretna for over 15 yrs, during gun season it gets a ton of traffic. But it is a huge area, and if you get out and look you can find some major honey holes(I prefer the swamps) and most guys fear the sugar sand and wont drive or walk the distance(lazy) to get to the sweet swamps. Its all about taking a trip and scouting.

You can call the state geological department and for $5.00 get any topo map of any area in NJ. Well worth it. If you decide to come down this way let me know I would bee glad to take you on a scout trip.
