Title: Simmons broadhead experience?
Post by: bansheewins on February 29, 2012, 02:33:00 PM
I have seen many pictures with members using the different Simmons broadheads.  I went to their website and am very interested in them.  I currently use 3 blade woodsmans.  I am looking for something different for Upcoming Turkey season and a Bear hunt in August.  I know they are two totally different animals but wondering if anyone has experience with the Simmons screw on tree shark?  With a 2" cut they look deadly.

personally i think you would be better of buying the glue on then inserting an adapter into it, to me the screw it looks weak with the overhanging blades. i just got some 2 blade tree sharks and they look deadly and fly like darts.

So you do have the tree sharks that I am referring too?  You mentioned they shoot very well for you?

I've have the screw in TreeSharks and they do fly like darts. The one think you should know is they sit back an inch from your insert. I saw that after I had bought them and wasn't sure if they would work, but they will by about a 1/4 of an inch. My buddy Tim on here is the one that turned me on to them and I know he has a couple success stories with them.

Like you I shot WW and wanted to try these out on turkey's. I haven't shot them at an animal yet but I can't wait to!

Oh and I'm shooting them out of a 71@28 Silvertip that shoots 200 fps. I don't know if that matters to you but I wasn't sure how they would perform out out of a heavy fast bow. They fly awesome, I'm very impressed with them.

Ok you guys sold me on them.  I'm going to get some so I can try them on turkey.  They are 190gn correct?  Just curious what your total arrow weight is on the heavier bow (snakebit40) and the lower weight bow ($bowhunter$)?

Yes they are 190 gr. My arrows are 580 gr. You won't regret it!

I shot my mountain lion with them a month ago and the hole was awesome, at least 3 inch opening.  I will be using them on Turkey this spring as well.  Lots of guys out here use them on turkey and deer with longbows in the 50 pound range and a total arrow weight of around 500 grains and get great penetration.  Dave handbuilds every head and insures that they are aligned perfectly to insure awesome flight.  They do fly like darts.

I have shot several deer with them 3 had the broadhead lodge in the off shoulder. The screw in head held up well. I like the screw in better, the aluminum inserts will break if you hit bone. I have not tried the steel ones. You can't go wrong with any of the Simmon's products in my opinion.

Thank you everyone for the information.  If you dont mind me asking another question , are you just using the 190gr up front or are you adding a weighted insert and how much?

They are GREAT heads. I also shoot MFX shafts with both 125 land sharks and 160 Treesharks. They fly great and make huge holes on angled cuts.

Totally awesome.  I am excited to try them.  That is a huge hole and I think the tree shark even has a bigger cut.

I was wondering when Landshark160 was going to see this. He's the man!   :notworthy:   Killed something like 10 deer this year with a simmons head!
