Any one here have an idea how to tan a beaver tail without ruining it? I have talked to some trappers and it seems not to be a cut and dry as it sounds. Lots of fat and oil in tail and needs to be sent to right place. I have four tails and some skulls. Would be willing to trade for the effort, if someone willing to participate. If you saw this leather!!! Would make an awesome quiver hood cover!!

I've tryed tanning beavertail once. Have experince braintan deer hides so I thought I would give it try. Split tails with fillet knive, flesh and flesh and flesh,, get all that fat off the skin, washed tails in warm lightly soaped water, used a chemical tanning solution, orange bottle stuff, tails came out very very stiff and hard. More solution maybe? Noticed the exterior of the epidermis layer flaking away. Maybe remove this epidermis layer? Don't really know what went wrong but certainly didn't come up with a usable product in the end. Good luck to you on this one....

I've been looking for this for awhile. I've had three tails in the freezer for over a year now with nothing to do with them. I'd love to know how to do it too.
