Title: .030 halo center serving
Post by: Keith Langford on March 15, 2012, 08:18:00 PM
anybody ever used this on their strings, my nocks are a little loose on my current string, its 8 strand d97, got it with my Zipper, I'm shooting gold tip 3555, I have bought a bunch of differant diameters of halo, but thought I would try the .030 so I wouldnt have to double serve, but man that stuff looks thick. Let me know what ya think of it if you have used it, or for you string building guys, what would be the perfect size/combination serving for my 8 strand d97 and GT standard nock,3555

Keith, on our Lefties R Us 8 strand strand D10strings (same dia. as D97), I double serve. First with .017, then with .021 in the opposite direction.  This give a good fit for most nocks.

I have been using .030 halo on my 8 strand Ultra Cam strings. I lay 2 extra strands of Ultra Cam under it as I serve.

If it were me I'd double serve with either .018 Braided 62XS or a combo of .018 Braid 62XS with .019 Halo over it.

.030 Halo over 8 of D-97/D-10 might want to move/slip.

I like the way 62XS lays over a skinny string for the first serve.

Thanks,

Josh

I try to avoid using the .030.  Halo is very slick.  The smaller the string diameter and the larger the serving diameter the more likely it will be to slip.  I've talked to everyone I could think of to come up with a way to remedy this, including BCY's head string guy, and they all said the same thing--sooner or later, it's going to slip.
