My buddy left some Whitetailed Deer Horns in the freezer for 10 yrs . Wrapped in a black garbage bag. ANY chance of salvage ?  :help:

Don't see why there would be any problem, you can nail them on a wall and leave them there for 30 years. But tell your buddy not to eat the old T-Bone he found hidden at the bottom of the freezer. lol

I never tried them before,I just don't think my teeth can handle stuff that tough...lol

Maybe if they were in early velvet but our season isn't open then.

God bless,Mudd

Just use a good tenderizer and marinate them over night. Cook at low heat for 2 hours.

So like these guys, I would not want to eat them, however, if you are asking if he could still have the horns mounted in a traditional mount. I would say it is unlikely that the cape would still be usuable. Especially if only wrapped in a trash bag. Most likely there would be issues with hair fall out etc. His best bet would be to try to locate another cape or perhaps use a cape from a deer harvested this coming season?

If I missed the mark on what you were asking then just ignore me.   :bigsmyl:

Another option is a skull plate mount.

If your buddies memory is that bad that he left antlers in the freezer for 30 years, borrow all you can from him. He will forget all about it by morning.

In fact they dont.lol. But id dont see why those antlers would be affected by that. One of the ways to preserve velvet is freeze drying, and a popular way to do that up here closer to the arctic is the leave them outside for a year.

Goats, Steers, Fords and Chrysler have horns.  Deer have antlers.  Fastest growing cells next to cancer.

Should be fine to do whatever you want to with them. If you want a european mount it might be hard to get the flesh off of the skull, but not impossible. If you want a normal mount, just get a new cape. If you want to make it into knife handles go for it. Like norminator said, we stick them up on our walls for 30+ years, the freezer won't hurt.
