Whats the word on the turkeys for the Upstate NY Trad Gangers? I walked the mountain a few days ago with my K-Mag and dogs and found some turkey sign nothing impressive but thats what I expected. I plan to hunt where I killed my buck last year on a Pipeline thats in a great location. Got logging roads to my left and right and straight ahead, great strut zone. They just look and feel like "Turkey Woods" up there. What are you guys seeing? Supposed to only be 51 the first day in my area in Central NY.
-
They are thicker than flies up here in the St. Lawrence valley. Very little winter kill off and fat from the corn fields. Can't wait :archer2:
-
Theres been rumor of Black Head Diesease but none ive seen. Seen a good flock this fall hopefully one of them jakes will come in cause im hungry!
-
Been seeing plenty around but we have also see baby turkeys this year. 2 weeks ago my wife was taking my GSP for a walk and he sniffed out a few chicks. Wondering how that is join to affect this season
-
not seeing or hearing much around my area-
-
i see a bunch anywhere i dont have permission to hunt theres always some in the cornfields afternoon though
i have one spot that i think ill slay one opening day though
-
been see'n some good birds in my spots in Dutchess & Putnam counties. dad says the birds are good in my spots in Delaware co.
-
Not seeing anything in my spots but I know the birds are around somewhere. Will be hunting PA Saturday then off first week of NY season. Should be fun but cold mornings.
-
Seeing solitary birds on the way to work-- one huge old white-headed tom this morning, I think they got off to an early start but the recent cold snap may have things back on track for a good opening week!
-
Poults already huh? No kidding no poults here yet but lots of hen sightings.
-
Not seeing many around my camp. I do have an old hen dusting in the field below camp so the MR must be around somewhere.
-
I'm surrounded by woods 3,000 plus acres plus my 75. Checked out my woods last weekend and yep their there. I;m fortunate to have great Deer and Vegie Vulture hunting right out my back and front doors. Many times I can just open my bedroom window and listen for Thunder Chickens to tell me were they want to play. Usually it doesn't take me to long to figure out were there at even if their playing hard to get.Longbow only this year- no blind. Best of luck to all my Trad Gangers and stay safe and enjoy Gods nature.

Not seeing many but tend to hear them every so often. I was seeing a nice flock on my 4 mile commute to work but have not seen them for nearly 2 weeks now.
-
Woke up to a pretty good rain this morning at 5am waited until 5:30 only to hear it pick up so I decided to sleep in and let the rain pass until 9am like the Weather Man said it would and it did. Got setup at about 10:15 and sat until 11:45 and never heard a peep. Had crows goin there was woodpeckers dumptrucks not even a shock gobble. My shotgun hunting buddies had the same luck which is pretty rare one even said this is the worst opening day he can rememember in 21 years. Im goin back after them in the morning what did you guys see or hear?
-
Ill keep trying with the bow until I get real hungrey.

Heard a couple, saw a doe and last years twins, had a raccoon walk by. And then there was a story that I can't tell here! Seems my ASAT leafy suit works pretty good......thanks ADK ken! After the rain on Monday everything is really soaked......makes for some silent walking!

-
Had 3 gobblers in to 70 yards onTuesday and yesterday, not even a track in the mud with a lot of miles on new logging roads in Herkimer.
-
I called two jakes in under ten yards but on the wrong side Wednesday morning about 10:30.
-
Im goin up way on the mountain tommorrow morning but ill be taking the Benelli. Had birds up there this fall maybe one will gobble.
-
I was out yesterday morning and had a couple of birds gobbling. After about a half hour I was startled to see a nice long beard pass by side window heading towards my decoys .He made a right and walked into my shooting window and at 12 yeards I shot. And missed.I got my arrow and it had down like feathers on it.Just a little high.I am new to turkey hunting and this was the first time I got into birds close.. What excitement! went out this morning and heard some gobbles but nothing showed.
-
I have travel many miles on the roads and i havent even seen any dead ones on the roads like i used to.
-
Cool experience Glen.

Don't be so hard on yourself Jim...that's our job. :p Keep after 'em.
-
Dan Hope you feel better.
I called in a hen twice this morning.
Couldn't buy a gobble if I wanted to. I have tomorrow morning until 9:30, then I'm done.
Black flies weren't to bad but they would go straight into my eyes.

When out the 2nd day, passed on a jake, but now I'm starting to regret that decisiopn, cause I'm picking up a bunch of extra shifts. I really wish I was born rich insted of good looking!!!! :bigsmyl:

I worked some gobblers for 4.5 hours today had a blast no shots but this hen came in and was ticked off when she saw my decoy. She made some aggressive purrs and chest beat my decoy it was a fun time, I was able to get a phone pic.

Real slow today........then it rained....then I went home!
-
AWESOME morning, could not ask for anything more, well maybe a shot! longbow in hand, high up on the mountain, gobblers singing to me OH YEAH!!!!!!!
-
A hen got between me & a longbeard & just stood there, he went behind trees & walked off. A few minutes later a silent partner came in with his girl friend & got the opportunity to ride home with me. Not the biggest 17#-7"beard, but I'm happy with him! (http://

I have been out every morning so far, had a young hen at 5 feet the third day--fun to watch. Lots of gobbling yesterday AM between 8-10 but the birds wouldn't come in. Not much action this AM-- and it was COLD!

black flies nearly carried me off today!

Well left the house by 4:30 was set up by 5 and the sun was anxious coming up. Started yelping about 10 after and soon had three suitors already to ask me to the prom. We were trading compliments back and forth with them getting closer. ( I had a road between me and them ) and they were coming in from my back which was good they would have to pass me before getting to the decoys. Anyway after enjoying the compliments I was getting our date was interrupted by the ring of a single shotgun blast. Talk about disappointed. ( there a some less than considerate folks whole won't stay off our property who got between us and cut in on our dance.) well as disappointed as I was I stayed put not knowing which way everyone had scattered. After about 5 min. I sent out a couple yelps and a coo and after about half an hour Mr. Much more quiet but just as interested shows up and had to get 15 yards from my blind before he could size up my decoy. I was always told it wasn't fair shooting someone in the back but I can say I feel no remorse. :biglaugh: He wasn't a big bird only a 4 in beard but he was defiantly earned.

Congrats on the turkey and the perseverance to keep hunting when most would have been cussing out the trespasser!
