I just received the new DVD from Cascade Archery titled Pure Bowhunting, Steve and Fred out did them selfs, my personal opinion Bowhunting Reflections was one of the best bowhunting DVDs I ever viewed, and this one tops it.
-
I loved the first one, so I will have to check this one out!!!
-
The words to describe this video are awesome. You get to go along with Steve Gorr, Fred Anderson and friends as they shoot 3-D targets and hunt some of the most beautiful places on earth. All of the hunts are fair chase and are filmed in places like Wyoming, Colorado, Canada, and Africa. You will be amazed by the scenery in Washington with it's trees, flora, and mountainous landscape. If you have seen Steve's Bowhunting Reflections, you know there is a bit of joking and humor. There is no exception in this one with all having a good time. While this video is packed with adventure there were two scenes that really stuck out to me. One is where you get to watch Steve stalk or should I say wade the river waist deep to slip within 15 yards of a 200 pound sleeping black bear. The other one will steal your heart as you watch 3 year old Bodie Turner pop balloons out of the air with a recurve that is half again as tall as he is. There are many adults that would be envious of the shooting form this little guy has developed. I think the title says it all. It is an hour and a half of Pure Bowhunting.
-
Good to see you posting again John. We haven't heard from you for awhile. This looks like a great DVD.

Man, was I excited to see this post! I didn't know they had a new DVD out. "Bowhunting Reflections" is definitely one of my favorite bowhunting videos.
So I just ordered myself a copy of this one, too!
-
Thanks for the heads up!! I really enjoyed Bowhunting Reflections.
-
Got mine in the mail yesterday but haven't had time to watch it yet.
-
Really looking forward to their second video. The first one is already one of the all-time classics.
-
I placed my order today after seeing this thread :)
-
so what is being hunted in the dvd...i am kind of picky and hate to say it BUT i love blacktail and rosey hunting..is there any..john
-
Steve hunts black bear in Western Canada as well as pronghorn and mule deer in Wyoming anc Colorado. He endures frigid conditions in NE Washington for a trophy whitetail, journeys to Africa for plains game, and stalks the ever elusive common carp. There's also great footage of Roosevelt elk in the Olympic rain forests of Western WA.
Yes, seeing a 3 year old shoot balloons out of the air was something!
-
NE Wash whitetail and Roosevelt elk in the Olympics sounds great. I'll have to place an order.
-
I just finished watching it :clapper: not your typical wack'm and stack'm video. This plays like a walk stump'n with good friends with some hunting thrown in. Some beautiful scenery from the Pacific Northwest and other spots out west to make any Easterner yearn for the mountains and the assortment of game in the west .
Steve's killing of a few P&Y cow pies and taking a swim in a clear running river to cool down on a hot bear hunt all adds to the fun of a great traditional video. Don't forget to play it in slow motion to see Lon Scott's face when Fred Anderson snatches one of his arrows and shoots it off a REALLY tall bridge down into the river below :biglaugh: .
-
Thanks for the "trailer info" elkken! :) LOL!!!
In their first DVD they did a good job of swapping yarns, insults, and good shots....lots of fun!!
I can't wait for my new DVD to show up!! :)
-
I just watched it for the second time. I really liked Steve stalking the bear that was sleeping on the other side of the river.
-
Thanks for the "heads-up". Reflections is my favorite vid and if this new one is better, then I can't wait.
-
I got my copy yesterday, so I had my evening planned for me by the postman. I'm not usually one to bother with hunting videos/shows because to me, my bowhunting is a very personal interaction with nature. But I do make an occassional exception for some trad-related footage. Guess it's the like-mindedness of the people involved.
I have to admit to enjoying this video also. It's evident that Fred Anderson, at whatever age he is, still enjoys shooting his bow, just like the rest of us. Forty plus years after my taking up archery, I'm still enthralled with the flight of an arrow. To watch the stumpshooting footage with Steve Gorr,Fred and friends,I can relate to that fun.
The animal footage is nice, with some over the shoulder footage of stalks included. And like Elkken said, a three year old popping airborne balloons was impressive.
Being a deer hunter first and foremost, the whitetail and mulie hunting grabbed me the most. Not that I have anything against the elk or antelope footage, because they're beautiful animals. But the whitetails and mule deer bucks just strike me as special. I've already watched that part a couple times. It's a great video, as far as I'm concerned.
-
Just to let the Trad Gang members know who ordered ( Pure Bowhunting ) and ( Bowhunting Reflections ) your two dvd's will be sent out Tuesday May 15 th. I am receiving shipment on Monday.
Steve
-
I am not one to buy hunting videos but I have seen quite a few at moose and deer camps. I was not impressed to say the least. When I saw Bowhunter Reflections I realized this was something way different. It was far and away better than that canned manure. I bought the new Pure Bowhunting DVD and have watched it twice already. It must have been good as my wife sat and watched the whole thing and trust me that is a first.
-
I'm glad I saw this thread. I already have Bowhunting Reflections and just now ordered Pure Bowhunting.
-
Just got it in after ready this thread, great video!

I ordered this and received it 2 days later. It is another great video by some great bowhunters. Excellent job, guys!
-
I have not seen it yet but I must say the service is fantastic. Ordered and it was at my home in no time. I hope to watch it this week.
-
Cascades service has always been top notch.
-
Just sent Steve a check today. I'm looking forward to receiving it.
-
I got mine :) Watched it. GREAT!!!!!!! It really was even better than the first!!! :) I'm hoping for a third!!!!!! Is that enough exclamation points?? :) LOL!!!
Is Steve Gorr really in his eighties or was Fred making a joke?? :)
-
I think Fred is in his eighties Kevin.
that was a great bit when Steve came down the hill on his hind quarters.
The movie is great. Good people doing good stuff.
Everybody should see it and the first one. Both are great.
CTT
-
Thanks Chuck!
I tell you what...no matter what Mr. Gorr's age is...he is a stout go getter!!! :) That was quite a feat going up and down that embankment at any age!!
The love of nature, hunting, outdoors, and shared times with friends really rings true in this DVD!! I agree with you Chuck that everyone should see both! :)
-
I just tried to buy both the DVDs from the Cascade site. I couldn't get the site to let me put both of them in my cart. Reflections allows you to add to the cart buy the new one says "Buy Now". It appears if I order separately I pay full shipping but the Cart says if two are bought only $1 is added to ship the second.
I reckon I need to hit F14 for the Unstupid button?
-
Roy I E-Mailed you this reply. If there is a overpay charged by Pay Pal We always Refund the overcharge in cash with the DVD,

-
I know members have posted about it elsewhere but i thought I'd tell you my thoughts ... yep , I am that impressed .
These are gents that I'd love to share a camp with .
..... these lads are Archers who know there equipment , men who understand the rarity and importance of a good hunting partner ... and hunters who enjoy the chase for the thrill of mixing it up in the wild places with critters who so often smarter than we are .
Kindred spirits ? I think so ... anyone who knows the joy of watching an arrow fly ... just for the heck of it atop the wild places we hunt and explore ?
Yep ... Kindred spirit indeed ...
I heard no mention of FPS , carbon , no infomercial stuff ..... but a bunch of good natured heckling , laughter and admiration for the critters they're chasing .
And the hunting ? Wow ... Antelope , elk and deer ...... all in country that I'll likely only ever read about , maybe see on screen .
But there is no whoopin' and hollerin in any distasteful way ... but deserved smiles aplenty at the successful shots that got the freezer filled ...
The footage shows off some country that is just stunning , the Cascade's are my idea of heaven .
And call me romantic and a big ol' archery nerd , but watching guys stump shoot is just as much fun for me as watching them hunt .
I think you wouldn't sit to long in camp with these lads as there would always be another arrow breaking target being picked out for you .....
... but its about as good as an archery dvd gets ... let alone a hunting DVD .
I think these guys and their DVD are in some ways what embodies , hunting , archery and 'stick and string' archery ...
Archery is meant to be fun ...
And these lads do a fine job of showing why ......
Best thing I have seen in ages .
-
Hey Ben, You got that right. Well said.
how about them big ole trees that Mr.Anderson likes to sleep in? WOW!
CTT
-
I think that our Mate and Big 'Ol Archery Nerd Ben said it best!!! Enjoying your posts on this site and another for a couple years, Ben....I know that you'd fit right in with these fellows on a hunt or a stump shoot!!!
-
Ben
I just want to thank you for your wonderful review. I read your review to Fred and he got a little emotional.Your understanding and appreciation of the video is the reason that we made it. I would love to visit you in Australia and stalk the bush with bow in hand.Like you it is the flight of the arrow that keeps Fred and I hooked. Some days on weekends I find myself shooting my bow 3 or 4 times. Just a dozen arrows then it is back to work. Have to sign off need to spray the third coat of finish on 4 bows. Thanks again Ben two kindred spirits in the US Fred and Steve.
-
Just bought em both. Looking forward to seeing the Cascades in action.
-
Just finished watching my copy for the second time, ordered last week and received it on Friday. Don't have a way with words like Ben, but this video is everything he said and more!! This and Bowhunting Reflections are must see for the trad archer.

E-Mail sent to Cascade
Steve.
I am the one thanking you, your video made me realize
What I have been missing for the last 12 years. When my
legs went out on me while I was bow hunting, I crawled
from 7pm till 10:30pm, I went into a terrible depression and
Never hunted again. Your video made me cry because I was
Missing those open fire hunting stories as you and Fred were
sharing, yesterday my brother and I made plans for a mule
Deer hunt the last 2 weeks of august.
Again I am the one thanking you
By the way I love a glass of that port wine , the tall bottle
Is my favorite.
Enjoy and thank you for everything.
T.O.
-
Wow, That is a nice story. I too like to watch movies like this one. It gets me really excited for the upcoming hunting season.
-
I receive a lot of letters like the one above from T.O. It sure makes a fellow thankful that my friends pitched in to help see to it that the video was finished.Thank you again.Fred,Angelo,Kirk,Chris, and Lon.
-
I received these videos VERY quickly after ordering them. I finished them today. Great videos. Lots of action and very "down to earth" talking, shooting, and ribbing.
These are the best bowhunting videos I've ever watched.
-
I just contacted Steve and ordered a few more as gifts for friends who hunt with non-trad gear. I am thinking the DVD may help to change their mind.
BTW, I found out Steve will have some videos at the Longbow Safari near Stanley, Idaho on July 7-8.
-
Hope to not take so long on finishing the next DVD. The great response for " Pure Bowhunting " has me charged up.I have 30 minutes shot and 4 good animals down with 1/2 dozen stalks. I am heading to Idaho june 1 st. Love that bear roast and sausage.
-
Steve is Fred still going with you after bear? Hope you shoot a good one this year.
-
This is on my fathers day list.
-
Good luck bear hunting in Idaho Steve! Back up top for a great video.
-
Steve don't be wadeing up on any more sleeping bears. I think they can run faster in water than you can. Looking forward to more videos.
-
Anybody heard if Steve got a bear or not?
-
ttt
-
Had a great time and totally enjoyed my trip. I did not see a bear. I was surprised at that because I spent some 13 hour days on stand. It was just like last winter when Chris and I went into our whitetail blind in the dark each morning, and ended the day 1/2 hour after sunset. The bear were totally night feeders. The weather did not help very cold. It rained 4 days , and one day there was three inches of snow on my four wheeler. We drove the Dodge until the snow was to deep. Then took the 4 wheelers in another 22 miles, we tent camped. When we left the bear were fatter. They will be bigger next year.
-
Well as they say Steve .. thats hunting. Glad you had a safe hunt and I'm sure the girls are glad to see you back home.
-
Age: Fred was joking. Steve is 68 years young and Fred is in his mid 70 ds. Fred and I plan to have a booth at the Packwood trad. shoot the first week in August.
-
Steve, Thats a bummer, maybe next year you will bag one of those huge bears that are over there.
-
I was lucky enough to win the St. Jude auction for both videos. Both are awesome videos!! Great commentary and cinematography!! I highly recommend!
-
After watching Pure Bowhunting again and with so many great hunts on the DVD I got to wondering. Would you like to hunt with Fred on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington for Elk during the rut, hunt out West for Mule Deer and Antelope with Angelo or spot and stalk black bear with Steve during the fall while the salmon are spawning in BC?
-
Well I have hunted elk on the peninsula and didn't enjoy myself. It is very thick and wet. I had the chance to hunt with Steve in Wyoming when he was guiding there and really enjoyed it other than sitting in a pit with no cover in 95 degrees from and hour before sunup to sundown something like 15 hrs of no shade. So I would have to say I would like to go bear hunting along the river with Steve. That way you can cool off if it gets too hot and since you will be wading rivers it wouldn't matter to much if it rained a little. But if any of those guy's asked me to go hunting I wouldn't turn them down no matter what it was as they are great to be around and I love listening to there stories.
-
I too won a set of these dvd's on the St Judes Auction but so far have had time to watch only Bowhunting Reflections. That said I so throurghly enjoyed it that I couldn't stop watching. Video quality is amongst the best I've ever seen and can't wait to watch Pure Bowhunting.
Thanks Terry Green for donating and thanks Steve Gorr for these productions. Hope to see more.
-
These are the best dvds I've watched. I hope more will be coming soon.
-
Hunting elk in the rut on the Olympic Peninsula is one adventure I would love, and getting to have Fred Anderson call for me would make it all the better.
Hunting stories, tall tales, and practical jokes would only make the hunt with Fred more memorable, so that hunt has my vote.
-
I had a box of theses to sell at the last few shows I went to. They sold rather well as the guys had seen Bowhunting Reflections and have been looking forward to the new production.
This is some good stuff to watch, Steve and his buddies know how to get it done.
Thank you Steve, for making the movies and also for the donation to St.Jude.

Two Tracks
I sent you your special package yesterday. I am also sending a box of 15 DVD's Pure Bowhunting for your next show I will also include several Bowhunting Reflections. Thank you for your support. I have had several archers show me several bows that you built for them they drew smooth and the workmanship was outstanding, keep up the good work.
-
Thanks Steve, I will let you know when the package arrives. Thanks again.
Chuck
-
Great hunting video. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!
-
Finally got around to watching the second dvd, Pure Bowhunting! All I can say is "WOW"! Thought the first one was a cut above all the rest but Pure Bowhunting is truly where its at and what it is like to be a bowhunter back then, now, in the future and all of the time. Love the stump shooting shots plus the elk footage in the great NW. Oh and how about all those bucks within spitting distance of Ang and he can't figure out which one to shoot. My oh my to have those problems would be something special.
And again great videography-best I've seen-keep up the good work and looking forward to more from Steve and the gang. Thanks!
-
Great video eh Kelly? I have watched them both a number of times.
In fact, I just got another box of DVDs in from Steve today, just intime for the GLLI in a few weeks.

I recently obtained both of Steve Gorr's dvds and
thoroughly recommend these to traditional and all
bowhunters and archers of all ages. Whilst the
video photography result is exceptional and totally enjoyable...the essence of just shooting a bow for fun and accuracy is captured without
effort or staged. Steve and his mates really know how to shoot accurately while enjoying each other and testing ability. The result is pure traditional with the bowhunting, the best I have seen anywhere on video or dvd.
I am an Aussie with 54 years in bowhunting. Steve Gorr and Jim Dougherty were my mentors way back from the start of the 1970's. Steve was (and I believe, still is) one of the best traditional archers I have ever known. His shooting style is
crisp and brilliant...a perfect coaching example for those who are lucky enough to have these two valuable dvds. The sequence on Elk as was all the hunting..top notch.
For those who read this and are too young to know
Steve or Jim Dougherty..do some research and you will find that in the 1970-80's both were featured in magazines world wide and legends in the sport. With the world market of bow makers to choose from...Steve will have my Cascade bow ready to send in a couple of weeks. I will hunt Whitetail in Minnesota with it in September.
If you haven't got copies of his Dvds or experienced the superb craftsmanship of his Cascade bows then you have missed a truly unique American legend shooting and at work plus play.
-
Ian, very well stated!
Steve is still putting arrows in the "X" ring and several of us have been bugging him to do another video on shooting technique. :biglaugh:

Yep and all that when he should be retired and enjoying the good life. Geez he's older than the hills! :) :biglaugh:
-
Steve is too young at heart to retire. He is only 30 years older than me and he runs me into the ground. He never gets tired. When he met me for our whitetail hunt he left his house around 9 at night for a six hour drive and I woke him at 4:30 the next morning and he jumped right out of bed and never nodded off all day.
-
Steve, You out did yourself on this video. I just watched it for the second time and it's great. I loved the way you put fun back into archery and into bowhunting in both of your videos. I'm anxiously awaiting the next video!!!!
Bill
-
I was just going through a bunch of old 60's - 70's "Bow & Arrow" magazines, and was surprised to see that Steve Gorr was, indeed, writing a bunch of articles at the time. Not that he is not qualified, I just didn't know about it.
I don't know Steve or Fred personally, but I have found their videos to be excellent. I have a bunch of trad videos (20+), and Bowhunting Reflections and Pure Bowhunting are among the few that I enjoy watching over and over and over again.
-
Steve was on the front cover of Bowhunter magazine back in the 70's. He wrote many articles for different magazines but the one that changed my shooting forever was in Bow&Arrow in 1978.In it Steve wrote to basically believe in your God given ability and to trust your eyes and mind to make the shot. I shot my first P&Y animal while hunting in Steve's antelope camp. I was so proud to have him there and to take the pictures for me. Steve has been one of my hero's for decades.
-
Bill
I am glad that you enjoyed the DVD. I still remember the film that your wife took of you putting that lung shot on that Buck antelope at 25 yards. That still is the best antelope harvest that I have ever seen on film. Hope you are still taking those nice whitetails.
-
I have had several request as to my archery booth set up this summer. I will be at the Port Angeles Trad shoot June 15 and 16.
The Longbow Safari broadhead shoot in BC.Canada the 4 th of July then Washington's Trad Rendezvous the first weekend August 3 rd in Packwood. The last two shoots that I mentioned have had just over 350 bowmen the last two years. Hope to meet you there I will have DVD's available. I love shooting those 3 DS camping out is a must.
-
My buddy and I had the unique privilege to have both Steve and Fred in our camp at Denton Hill (ETAR) for an evening walleye fry several years ago. I have to tell you that it was an absolutely unforgettable evening! Two finer gentlemen you will not meet and they are such great ambassadors for our sport.
-
David...I definitely agree!
When those two get together, it is "absolutely unforgettable".
-
My wife and I are going to the Port Angeles shoot also.
Steve, Is Fred going? I sure enjoy shooting with you two. Are you going to try and film some elk while you are over there? The calves should be out I think?
Chris.
-
Glad to hear you are coming to the Safari Steve
gord
-
Lon and Chris; Fred plans to make the shoot. Yes I plan to head up to timberline to video elk calves. But I would be more excited to film blacktail does with there fawns. I received many positive comments about the blacktail deer and her twin fawns that were in the Pure Bowhunting DVD. I have fletched up a new dozen wood arrows to try out. Can hardly wait to get the weekend started and launch a few arrows. I sent 30 DVD's to Three Rivers Archery last month also a full box to The Footed Shaft.
-
Looking forward to seeing you at the Longbow Safari Steve!
I'm arriving on the island a week early to hang out with a friend who lives there, do a lot of stump shooting, and maybe catch a fat trout or two from a canoe.
Then it's on to the Safari camp for some serious fun and frivolity. See ya there!
-
Post deleted explanation in following post.
-
David,
I have both tapes and NONE of the footage is duplicated. I'm sure Steve would like to know this and probably see the tape. He would definitely replace it at no cost if your friend returned it.
-
If I remember right, Bowhunting Reflections was made before Steve even got most of that other footage. I agree with Blackhawk. Give Steve a call (360) 435-4251. I think the only footage that is duplicated is on Pure Bowhunting showing previews of Bowhunting Reflections.
-
cch, yes, that is how my copies are, but something got messed up when the copy my buddy got was produced. He has nearly identical footage on both. I just thought others may run into the same issue if this was a production glitch that Steve ought to know about. My buddy is going to give him a call.
-
Hooo boy, just got a text from my buddy--it's too difficult to go into but there was some confusion and he does NOT have a defective copy of the video. :knothead: I guess all's well that ends well, huh?
-
-
David, Good to hear. I didn't think there could be any way that could have happened.
-
Mr Hinton and Gord seeing you two fellows at the Vancouver shoot will be a bonus. Rick did you ever make it to New Zealand or is that this summer. Gord did you make the Nay Niamo shoot. I went to the Olympics looking for deer and bear that weekend.
Steve
-
Steve, Were you able to get any footage last weekend? I wish I had my camera when I saw those two big bucks in Sequim.
-
I saw 5 bucks on Hurricane Ridge 4 will be shooters with 15 to 20 inch spreads. Also spotted a good bear but he was to far away to make it over to him before night fall. The best video I took was of a rock chuck with a big blacktail buck in the back ground. The buck fed for a while then bedded down down. Very useable footage.
-
That's great Steve!! Did you get a chance to look at the footage I took of the gopher hunt in Montana? Hopefully there is a couple of seconds of footage you can use.
-
Steve just sent me a trailer of his new video. He got a new high def camera and the footage is great. Hopefully he can get his blacktail that he has been hunting the last two years. Should be ready early next year.
-
Met Steve at this years TBBC Roundevous in Rock Ck BC where he gifted me two of his Bowhunting Videos . Certainly a breath of fresh air as hunting vids go . No brash advertisements and focused on the closeness of the Traditional Bowhunters , I realy enjoyed them .
Steve I`m the one with whom you demonstrated so much patience over the "Knife " story .
Cheers
-
Steve, Looking forward to new DVD next year I still think it would be great if you could do one on shooting, as our old friend Otis Toad Smith told me many many years ago you were were the best shot he ever seen!
-
I can't wait to get the new one. Fred Anderson told me he had seen some of the footage that will be in it. Those videos from Steve are the best in my collection. I just have to watch them often.
-
If there a new developments associated with a 3rd major trad bowhunting DVD by Cascade Archery, this is big, great news!
-
Muley, Steve has talked about doing a shooting video. Maybe after this next hunting video?
-
Hopefully in time to preorder for Christmas
-
I have the other two. Probably the best trad videos I've seen.
-
Ditto on what Arctic Hunter said! And, a third hunting video would be great.
-
I can't compliment Steve enough for the two DVD's he has produced. As everyone has said, they are the very best out there. Let's not forget to give Fred his due on his contribution on the first one too. Now if Steve would figure out how to bring back his line of bows, life would really be good.
-
I would love to see a bowyer pic up his bow line. Have a 52" golden hawk due to arrive Monday for my buddy's
I'd love to try his longbow out.
His videos are flat out amazing. I watch them often, and bought duplicates in case I lose or scratch my watchers
-
I talked to Steve last night and his new video is coming along nice. He got some footage of Fred shooting an pronghorn. Steve just needs to stop passing on the Blacktail deer. He also said he just bought a new high def camera.
-
I`am glad to hear that Steve and Fred are coming out with number 3 DVD.
-
I just ordered DVD #2 yesterday from 3Rivers. The 2nd Primal Dreams as well. I really liked the first Cascade DVD, very down to earth fellows.
-
Yea I'd agree there DVD s are top notch! Well recorded and worth watching again and again.
-
I probably already posted in this thread a while back, but I'll say it again... Steve and Fred's first 2 DVDs are outstanding. I hope they do some more! There's something about their production that best captures the essence of what I enjoy about trad bowhunting.
-
Chris
I just need one Mule deer or Blacktail deer to complete Video. Yes the new Hi Def camera is better than ever. I sent Terry Green a short preview of some of the clips that will be in the video. Hope to get more footage on fathers and mothers taking there kids into the Lords great out doors. Steve and Fred still working on it.
-
Lookin' forward to the new one Steve
Deno

Be glad to get a new video. I have just about worn out the first two. Both of those were very well done.

Steve is funny. He passed on nice Blacktail Bucks the last couple of years because they came in the first couple of hours hoping for bigger. Then sat the rest of the season and not see anything. He has been sitting in stands for something like 30 days and not ever see anything. He then shows me video of bucks I have only dreamed of. I would have shot them in a heartbeat.
