I am going to throw in a handmade Long box Boat Paddle call. I sell them for $200 with holster when my arm gets twisted. Must show up at hunt to receive call. it takes me about 6 months to make a Boat Paddle call since the tuning takes so long. I will make it out of some special wood....one of a kind.
recap items
turkey bowhunt on honey hole Private Farm NC. 3 day hunt , lodging ,5 star food from chef, $1200 easy..
personalized Boat Paddle Call. $200
Loggy Bayou deer. $180. ( don , is that the one you fell out of? )
gas card. $25. ( you need it for running back and forth to store to keep Don current with snuff)
Heck I am going to buy 5 chances so if I win ,I can kill 2?

Just read the post the Kook put up. Very cool idea and it would be great to win and who cannot come up with twenty bucks.
Well done - to all of you.

Link FIXED!

Can't wait for this to open up
-
Great idea! I haven't been a big turkey hunter but you can bet I'll be in on this just because of this quote from Don "The hunting is first class but the BS sessions will be worth a $20 chance at this.;"
Benjy
-
I haven't finished getting my money's worth of BS from Don and Joey (it was free and a few years ago at KaZoo). I'll get in for one chance, and know someone will have a great time.

I've been waiting to see Don be able to start this particular thread on Pow Wow - so we can push this great offer. We (at least yours truly) are thinking this is the fairest plan for an offered hunt I've ever seen or heard about. I don't believe there is a member going that couldn't raise a twenty dollar bill to get (at least one) a ticket in the hat/pot. I am in high hopes that this offer will also give more of the generous folks putting hunts up for the St. Jude auctions to do theirs in a similar fashion/manner. Perhaps not this year but keep it in mind for future hunt offers - PLEASE. I personally think Don has come up with a great hunt program/offer.
Speaking of that I'm also here to say that I think Don left out one of the "Legends" as he calls them (wow, I'm feeling like I'm in tall company - LOL). The one he left out is "batman" himself. I know he never considers himself that way (just like I don't think of myself that way, and probably the others don't think of themselves that way either). BUT they are, as he explained, and he is too. One hell of a hunter, one consistently fine traditional archer, and another heck of a nice guy to be around. Also a fine musician and banjo player for the campfire - LOL.
There is another (old) thread kicking around Pow Wow lately that I wrote up as a report on Don's last Turkey Hunt offer for St. Jude. check it out also for all the fun we had on that one. This one will be even better.
Another thing that I want to cover is that I also am sweetening the pot for the winner, along with the other guys "Extra Gifts":
First, as I did last time, I will make one of my (rather Plain Jane) Turkey Wing Bone Calls, personalized for that lucky winner. (I know at least a couple members who have called in and killed their bird with one of my WBCalls - perhaps more have.)
Second, I am donating a Primitive Bow that I made (by myself) a couple or three years back. You will hear/see more about this but for now let me just tell a little about it. It was a second place Bow Of the Month in Primitive Archer Mag (though second doesn't get a prize - LOL). It is solid Hickory, and a rather unique style. I don't use it much but it is a fine, smooth drawing, smooth, accurate shooter. However, even if you don't care to shoot it, I venture to say that you will love having it hanging on your wall. Back then the style was still called Holmgards (now they have found out that they are actually Mollegabets - (determined by a mix up in the tribe that actually designed and made the ancient ones they found). When I was laboring over making her (Lord but Hickory is hard to scrape when you take a large, bulky stave down to a "Holmgard/Mollegabet" weird shape), I had a build-a-long up on 4 forums as I went along. Most are still up in archives, last I knew, not positive about here on TG, though it was a couple monts back. At the same time, Hurricane Hannah hit, and raised cane, here in NC. Because of that I named her, "Hannah-Holmi", and drew a little lady's head, blowing out wind, beside her name. She is finished natural (Polyurethane), is 66" NTN, and 40# @ 26" Her Flemish twist string is also one made by me. Pictures will be posted, probably during the auction - awww, why not post some now, while I'm at it. I think Don will approve. REMEMBER, this will be one of the prizes awarded to the winner of Don's hunt (whether you want it or not -LOL)

Also, while I'm at it (and seeing old pics - LOL), here are some samples of some of my Wing Bone Turkey Calls I've made and personalized. The Winner of the hunt will get one (similar to these) also:

-
Also, thanks to you John. I'll order another side of beef if your gonna be there. LOL.
Also a good point that Joey and John made. You gotta show up to get the stuff. We aint shipping .
I'll also offer a free shooting clinic by me and John. after all we have graduated from a higher form of learning.
here (http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=081651)
-
Black Angus please.....
Good idea Batman.....Folks Batman graduated from Rick's school with an A+....a teachers pet of sorts.
Jet and I squeezed thru with C- average for our crappy video image and poor release.
This should be fun!!!
-
Neat, NEAT stuff...
And Mini-Grunt...after all your hard work, I was surprised to learn you'd give that bow up, ya big hearted Garden Gnome!
Then I read it was 66" NTN...Good Lord, Bernie...that has to be at LEAST 2 feet longer than you are tall!!! You stand on a stool to shoot that 'un?
One thing Batty... Am I reading it right? It's either in for one ($20) or in for the $100? I was thinking I might be able to scrape 2 tickets worth, but it doesn't look like that is an option... $20 or a $100?? Is that right?
What say ye..Inquiring minds, etc. :)
-
Oh-ho-ho-ho - this is getting scary good - or as the ol' "Mainers" say, "wicked good"!
(I hope the winner has a good sized vehicle, or a friend in the postal service - LOL)
-
Doc, if I understand correctly, it's $20 a ticket, 6 tickets for $100 (buy five get one free) but he is limiting everyone to not more than $100. So yes you can buy two for $40.
I've been wrong before buy I think this will be BIG!
-
Spot on Fred. Doc, like Fred said all you want up to 6. thanks
-
You can bet I'll be in .... and while I'd love to spend those days with y'all chasing my favorite quarry, I'll be glad to know my money is going to a great cause if I don't win.
Thanks for doing this guys, and thanks for keeping the cost down so that everyone can participate.
-
Shoot, if Cory will bake some cookies and Joey doesn't mind me 3" behind his every step, I can't imagine much better. I'm in!
-
This is a super prize, great job guys!
-
A great prize and a fine way to let everyone have a shot at winning ! :clapper:
-
I am soooo excited about this and the early responses we've had from folks we've talked to about Don's PLAN. Also Thanks to Terry for having the foresight to recognize it as a plan to slap the "OK" on fast and early.
Doc, I shoot lottsa 66" bows - I just put my old western boots on and stand on my tippy-toes - LOL
Actually I've been wanting that special bow I scrapped on forever ( ;) ) to go to a real special cause, ever since I finished it but I couldn't think of a way to really make it do enough good to satisfy me. When Don said some of the guys were going to chip in "sweeteners", and would I like to get in with another Wing Bone Call, it dawned on me that this great and different offer should be just the trick for "Hannah-Holmi", to do some good, if anything would. What a great thing for her to be associated with - A new and wonderful idea on TradGang, and helping to raise funds for the kids of St. Jude. I'm stoked!!! :archer: :jumper:
-
Guru, (Curt) got your pm and returned it. Thanks for your support.
-
Why does it not surprise me that Guru wants to help out - one of our many members who are always ready to pitch in, any way they can. You go, brother!
-
Thanks, For clarifying guys!
Wording lets everyone to their own sometimes.
I kept reading and wanting to make it to be "$20 ea and 6 for $100" but it didn't read that way so I thought I'd ask...
Now I got a bead on the target better! Super cool idea... so many things get so far outa my range so fast... I just rebel rouse...this should be FUN!
-
Ad to the pot the book " The Bowyers Craft" by Jay Massy.
-
Well Bernie, thank you bud, I appreciate the kind words.....and if you wouldn't mind(because your adding one youself), I'd like to add one of my Snakeskinned wingbone yelpers to "the pot" :)
-
-
LOL - Not a problem, Guru (one can never have too many calls - and I'll bet the winner wouldn't mind two WBCalls in his ditty bag).
-
To own calls made by Bernie, Guru and Joey would be a plus for anyone wanting to take a big tom. Lots of mojo there.
Guys real quick, please remember that when the bidding starts, you have to pre pay and then post your in on that St jude Forum thread. Thats forum #5.
I expect to hear from Cory on here soon. I know he's just returning from South Carolina (but thats a totally different story LOL).
Thanks for all the support so far. more to come. Don
-
OK looking very good here. I had to go mow the lawn and pull a tent at one of our other honey holes. Joey the weather was perfect and turkeys are still gobbling down at the SRBZ ?! Coyotes are bad though. Hey and get this - we flushed a Bald Eagle yesterday off a gut pile!!!! :)
Like Don said once we get this thing going only folks who have bought a ticket can post so we can watch the St Judes gift grow and know who we are working with.
Tip: Guys I know most of you are experienced but a reminder to start shooting from a ground blind now and do some hunting from a blind this fall if you can. Work out all the steps you need to do to draw cleanly and quietly without spooking turkeys.
Hunt Quality: On this property the hunting stays excellent all morning and in some cases mid afternoon. This is NOT a first light only hunt.
Bernie - looking forward to sharing a campfire again - and those wingbones are beautiful!
More later <><

-
Dude, thanks for chiming in . Glad the trip down south was productive.
-
Steve O, does Joey stop to tie his shoes often? :nono: ;) Don, how do you prepay? I want to get this right.
-
Just remember owlbait when you pay the only important thing is to let them know you want yours to go tward the newbie side :biglaugh:
-
I'm sure they will have complete instructions For pre-pay, etc. re-stated on the"offer" thread shortly after (or just before) the bidding starts , eve of the 20th, Mike. Don may come on here again and explain it too (or Terry or Doug Campbell - LOL)
(If none of them do, you can always count on Santa Clause - I think ;) )
-
When the bidding opens all you have to do is send a check to Doug Campbell, 46 W Boulder Rd, McLeod, MT 59052 or paypal via instructions at the top of this forum, your TG membership # and batman turkey hunt on it. Then post on the thread that you are in for 20 or 100. If you post , we are assuming you have sent payment . 5 days after the forum closes we will draw and confirm payment has been received. then will post the results
There you go Owl.
-
Hmmmmmm - this is all important stuff, about a great, new fund raising offer for the kids at St. Jude and deserves to be kept circulating.
WE MUST, - WE MUST,
WE MUST INCREASE OUR *LUST
(for the Batman Turkey Hunt offer)
* Slightly altered from a silly but funny little exercise ditty my (then) pre-teen-aged daughter and her friend, "Flatty Patty" used to run around singing all the time. :jumper:
-
Don....not sure if you got with Doug Campbell or not....there may be a way for folks to PAYPAL the $20 and type Legend Hunt in the comment box....that would be another way to sell more tickets...and Doug can get you the names.....check with him... :campfire:
-
Thanks Terry, have not but will contact Doug.
-
Thanks Don. I kind of had it figured but thought it might help to have it out there again. So, I HAVE to wait until the bidding opens to send my check? Our mail is slow, like me
-
Man I can't wait to get my hands on that Golden Ticket. Always wanted to hunt turkeys where there was a lot of birds! Here where I hunt I've been hunting the same two gobblers for weeks. I'm starting to really hate turkeys!
Glenn
-
Sounds like a good idea, don. Besides, I think you and Doug will really enjoy talking with each other. You both carry good hearts around with you every day.
-
I'll be in on this one!
-
Sounds like this one would be worth a flight from the left coast!
Jerry
-
Most definitely worth flyin' for....
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:
-
As Red Skelton used to say, "I just flew in from the West coast, and, boy are my arms tired."
Where ever in our glorious country you are located, if you get drawn, it is worth the flight, train, bus, drive, canoe, or bike ride to get here for - just make sure you have made plans for carrying (or shipping) all your "loot" home with you - LOL.
-
Got in touch with Doug Cambell . He edited the bid listing only slightly , about the pay info. also said he would come just to shake Bernie's hand and eat Cory's cooking.
Owl, no worries about slow mail. If it's in the mail then it's good. Paypal is an easy and secure way to do it if you can. Not hard at all to set up to do either.
-
Saw LOTS of hens moving last couple a days feeding while out prospecting Trees to cut TIPI poles. Plenty of longbeards left for next year and this property always has a steady supply of up and coming Jakes.

(These pics are from the last St. Jude Turkey hunt that Don, "batman" offered.)
-
Thanks again Don. I'm as challenged with computers and paypal as I am with my shooting, but your arrow advice has helped with the latter. No matter the outcome, I hope to get to shoot with you and John and the rest in your neck of the woods someday. Let's raise some money for the kids. THANK YOU!
-
I sure hope there are a couple really short people like Garden Gnome Bernie in the "Infamous Pool" cause them top bunks look to be about 2' from the ceiling...I'd sit up and be like Lurch in that one Bond moving with his head out the skylight! Ouch...
Oh...and theres WIMMENS at this shindig... :saywhat: :wavey:
Yeah, I read the report of this year's hunt so I know, but they surely do improve the scenery over them other ugly mugs Bernie posted! :jumper:
-
Yep - like I said, it's a purty place to be - LOL (the Battens attract good looking women - I'm not so sure about any of the rest of us). Oh, and never, ever sit up in a bunk bed, Doc, no matter which one it is. It's like NEVER, EVER play leap frog with a Unicorn! It just doesn't pay!
-
Pretty nice digs!
-
Looking forward to it also Cory, and thank you on the WBCalls. They are fun to do - and satisfying, (though I haven't done any since that last St. Jude Hunt, that I recall.) I recall someone saying that was too much turkey for a little guy to eat - LOL but when Rose makes Turkey soup (which is how she likes it), it goes down soooooooooooooo eas-sy. Almost as good as your Alligator Stew (and other Master Chef eats), buddy. Looking forward to that again too - LOL.
I also appreciate what Doug told Don and would love to shake his hand too for all the work he has done for St. Jude - plus He's got the right idea about Cory's cooking. Take a sneak-peak:

Do YOU have your $20.00 to $100.00 set aside yet for this FANTASTIC offer??? If you do, work on a friend or two also please. If you don't, Whaddayawaitin'on??? :goldtooth:

That's great, the more folks that want in, the more good St. Jude can do for our precious children. It's just too bad every single ticket couldn't be chosen - but every buyer of one or more will certainly be a "WINNER" and a "KEEPER" in my book, and I will be thinking of, and blessing, each and all of you when I take on that big honor of Drawing the actual winner of the hunt. COUNT ON IT!!!
-
Looking reeeeeeeal good! Only problem is my daughter will probably steal it away from me if I'm lucky enough to win. But as they say at St. Judes, " It's for the kids"!
-
Bless your heart, leatherneck!
-
She needs a turkey on her resume'. I know she's already got a nice hog. If she wins then I guess you'd just have to drive her down and hang out with us too. Not a bad thing.
-
I think thiswill go over big!!
-
We (collectively) were sure pumped about it doing well when Don first sketched it out to some us in the early stages of his planning. I can't imagine that he hasn't hit on a real workable program here. We hope that folks will prove us right by joining in to the fullest that they can.
-
I'll be here tomarrow night to sweetn the pot when the bids start.
after that i have to intrust it to Bernie and the others. You see my buddy Jet called and I have to go south monday night to help him with a swine problem. I should be back thursday night.

A little more info on this great hunt, here on Pow Wow for more eyes perhaps.
The hunt started out pretty good and is moving along but , don't forget to get your ticket(s) bought and in the barrel - time is so fleeting. Go to bid Forum #5, after sending your PayPal amount of $20.00 per ticket (up to $100.00 for 6 tickets max.), and let me know how many tickets your in for.
...........................
An update (Counting Joebucks $100 for 6 tickets):
$980.00 (and 51 tickets in)
Want to be the one to put it over the (first) Thousand Mark???
...........................
I'll be waiting to do the tally - LOL

I put this baby over 1G a little bit ago. Come on lucky G!

Thats actually what I'm hoping for. I'd bid if it was just the food for bid!!!!! Michael has told me all about Corys cooking and my mouth is watering.
Heck I've already made 2-batches of the stew we had when we were there.
Great eating with some fine folks everybody. So get on over to the auction and get your tickets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
