Alrighty fellow toxophilites, here is round 4. This time, we are going to practice some shots that I've found to be useful for hunting on the ground in thick cover.
To prepare yourself, take 6 practice shots from 15 yards.
Shot #1 is from 20 yards. You'll be shooting bent at the waist, with your bow canted at a 45* angle.
Shot #2 is from 17 yards. You'll shoot while standing with your feet facing directly away from the target.
Shot #3 is from 14 yards. Shoot this one on your knees with the bow horizontal to the ground.
Shot #4 is from 11 yards. Shoot this one sitting down on the ground.
Good luck.
-
Excuse me while I look up toxophilites
-
Glad to have 6 warm ups. I took 3 kneeling bow flat and 3 sitting. I hit my limb tip on the ground the first two sitting shots and would have missed the target twice on the kneeling shots. Looks like 24.

-
Here's mine. Looks like a 24 for me, too.

I am glad its raining here at the moment. Not sure any of mine are going to connect with the plate!
Good choice of shots Looper, this should be a nice challenge :)
-
This one looks tough. I'm going out on a limb and predicting low scores on this one.
Do we get 6 practice shots the day we shoot for score, or 6 practice shots total?
Elknutz, 24 seems pretty darn respectible to me...
-
Take 6 practice shots right before you shoot the 4 scoring shots.
-
Wow. Time sure flies by. My yard just dried out enough to be able to get out and shoot round 3.
Here it is. Missed shot #3 - Score me a 14 and I'll get Round 4 done soon.

-
As much as I'd love to say, "28" the truth of the matter is that I missed with my first shot on all but the 3rd (knees) shot and that one was the 8.
Score me an 8
It was FUN though. :archer2:

Looper you oughta be ashamed of yourself (I know I'm ashamed of myself). That top arrow is bending the plate but didn't cut it so I'm calling it a big 6 for this week.

Whatchu talkin bout? I thought that was a pretty good group. Especially since I was hurrying to get out of the way of the thunderstorm that was bearing down on me. I promise I'll do better next week.
-
I had to look up toxophilite too. Learn something new every day......it's an "archer". Cool!
-
No your group was great I'm talking about this incredably fun shoot this week.It was a very challenging to say the least.
-
Shoot, I went easy this time. The last round last year was pretty interesting: http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=107147;p=1#000000
-
Good postions this time looper!!!
The kneeling with the horizontal bow got me this time. I sent it high.
24 for me this time.

I laughed when my 4th arrow hit where it did, cause I was totally expecting to miss the target with it. The sitting shot is a butt kicker with a 66"long bow. I shot under the block my first two warmups, sitting at 15yds, cause my limb tip hit ther ground. This proves the old blind hog finding acorns idea.

Week 4 Fun Shoot
shot1=4
shot2=4 It wasn't looking good
shot3=10 I was surprised about that one
shot4=6
total=24

Try it with a 70" bow and a gut like Buddha. If I had moobs, I'd have ripped my left nipple off.
-
Is it to late to start? This looks fun.
Tyson
-
Shot 1 = 4
shot 2 = 4
shot 3 = 6
shot 4 = 8
-------------
Total = 22
Best shot from the rump.... least fun shot from the 180* twist.... the should-a-been shot #1 (but it wasnt)
-
decided not to wait till the last minute...I only have two arrows now, I busted a nock of the third last night. so, two groups of two here.
The first shot went according to plan, 45 degree angle is nearly my native tendency, I generally shoot right when I cant more then usual. Nailed it this time The backward shot gave me hell, turning into my prerequisite flyer for the group.
:banghead:
Third shot was great, I practice that exact shot and distance all the time, fourth one I released a tad early.
In the end it looks like this.
The bottom shot in the center, I think deserves an 8. I believe the paper tore into the line due to the lightness of the paper not because of impact. you be the judge
I'll claim two 6's an 8 and a ten.
30 ttl
amazing how often we 'cut the line'.
-
Ty, jump in but doit soon. Try to catch up by the end of round 4.
You have till Thursday evening.
Elkbreath going with your call no way for us to tell.
-
its an 8.
-
4 Arrows, 4 Stances and 4 Distances.
I am ready for this Week's Shoot.

.
-
HA! Matt needs to send that target around, perhaps patent it. Great idea.
-
LOL....ya I could work with that one
-
Wow, this target is PERFECT!
-
Elkbreath, I enlarged your pic, clearly looks like a 10 to me. I'd say 32.
-
And thats great shooting for these shots!
-
Raging Water..nice shooting 40 points, lol. I can do that too....if I draw ten rings AFTER shooting.
Try to shoot today but this is hard one, for me at least.
-
Week 4...30 points
The 4 pointer was shot #3. Gonna have to practice that one.
I want to thank the OP. Because of this friendly competition I have been shooting almost every day from different angles and distances also sitting, kneeling, etc. Just any scenario I can think of. I actually feel myself getting better...Thanks!
Oh yeah...I also found I shoot better first thing in the morning.
-
If this was a contest about shooting consistent 22's I would have it in the bag! Think this is my 3rd 22 score! Not a bad group but just been shooting low, couple inches up would have been nice. Nice shooting everyone.
Eric

wow, some good shooting there.
Know this one will be hard for me,
10 points week 4. There is no excuses just bad shooting.
Had to try again and it went better.
Maybe I should practice more different positions.
-
Three 6's and my famous flyer score= 18 this week.
Thank goodness for small lines and big shafts this week. :banghead: (http:// [img]http://images.imagelinky.com/1342386770.JPG) [/IMG]

Maybe some day we can shoot a round like poker hands, nominal distance 17 yds, 5 shots, results could be like 4-sixes plus a 10, or 2 eights and 3 fours.Would be kinda cool to see some of those hands come up.... It would make avoiding the 10 ring once in a while an ok thing. :archer2:
-
Mike, I like the way you think, Ive had good poker hands twice in 4 weeks.
-
It looks like a 20 this week folks!! That 3rd shot almost got away from me.

-
Bringing This back to page one.
Hope to shoot this evening.
-
I'll have to shoot with a snorkel. Been raining for over a week here.
-
looks like a 22 for week #4. An 8(barely) a 6 and two 4's (http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb363/richierm/DSCN5589.jpg)

-
I cannot post pics until later this week but I did get an 18.

Went to a longbow this week, payed off big, 20 yard miss, 17 was the only hit for 6, that stupid sitting junk shot went under my arm guard. You guys take shots like this?
6 for me
-
Got out in the heat and shot tonight.
26 for me this week
2 8s
1 6
1 4
Have yet to see the 10 spot!
Thanks Ron for all the work keeping score!
-
(http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r509/drewsumrell/FunShoot_Wk4.jpg)
Some scary bad shooting on my part, but great experience with some very different shots for me and new lessons learned. Good call!
A pitiful 10 points :-(
-
modified the bow a little added a hemp wrap on handle. fletched up some arrows. was pretty happy till I shot this. Missed with the kneeling shot.
Maybe it would help if I tried concentrating on the spot. 4, 4, 6 = 14

Hey everyone, please try to catch up if you haven't started if you still want to.

I'm ready for the next shot now!
Thanks for the help with the photos and allowing me to start late.
-
Raced home and got it done just before dark. A HUGE score this week of... 8!
First shot was low and left.
Second shot was a 4
Third shot was off to the right and gave myself a smack in the mouth!
Last shot was a disappointment with another 4. I actually feel fairly comfortable shooting from sitting but I guess tonight was not a great one for me :(
At least I hit the plate I guess!
-
Will have to shoot this weekend, wife is in the hospital. Priorities, you know. This week looks like a tough one.
-
Well, not bad. I got a 24.
The #3 shot just clipped the line.
(http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/ac138/hemdell/Fun%20Shoot%20and%20Saluki%20Turk%20and%20First%20Shot/week%204/IMG-20120719-00131.jpg) (http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/ac138/hemdell/Fun%20Shoot%20and%20Saluki%20Turk%20and%20First%20Shot/week%204/IMG-20120719-00132.jpg)
-
Well, that was a real confidence builder :help:
It's a good reminder not to take stupid shots. :banghead:
On the bright side, I get to save my untouched plate for next week.
Big GOOSE EGG for me.

If not too late here is my score... not that it will make a difference. I do believe I have the privilege of being the first with 0, that is zero to be clear.
If any can't see the 4th arrow it missed completely and is hidden behind the front leg.
I gave it a second go just to make myself feel better. See second pic (for a 12).

I propose that the runner-up gets to pick the shots if the winner hasn't posted by 3pm eastern.

I sent him a pm.

I came REAL close to doing it on this shoot. 3 of my 4 shots missed completely. I had to do the same thing and take a second shot just to try and redeem myself.
That's what makes this a FUN SHOOT. Enjoy!!
Thanks PowDuck, turns out TooManyHobbies had the same luck as me. Always room for improvement and more practice. Looking forward to good weather, longer days and Wk 5
-
Just managed to shoot week 4 this evening, put me down for a 22. My computer with the card reader has gone democratic on me so I'll post the target pic later when it gets fixed. Looking forward to week 5; gonna be hot again, tho.

Consider this one closed . Post any make up scores on week 5
