Title: Trad Mtn Lion on Outdoor Channel this wk
Post by: Hawken1911 on July 18, 2012, 09:50:00 AM
Hi Guys,

I've caught a few episodes of 'Sasquatch' on the outdoor channel recently.  It features Laramy "Sasquatch" Miller, who they say lives like the mountain men of the 1800s.  Well, in the opening credits they always say he survives with his Hawken rifle and longbow, but I hadn't seen the longbow until this week's episode, which features him on a mountain lion hunt with dogs.  he makes a great shot...you may want to check it out.  (The narrator mistakenly refers to his takedown longbow as a Bear recurve though).

Kirk was making my bow around the same time he was building Laramy's bow. It was interesting talking to him about building relatively short longbows for 32" and 33" draw lengths. I would like to try out an Obsidian model someday.

He used one of Kirk's Big Foot bows in the story and then attributed it to Bear Archery? Is the guy shooting the bow the same guy who's doing the voice over narration? What's going on there, I wonder?

No way...that's a pro voice over guy.  He probably never even met "Sasquatch" and it was all done later in a studio.  You could tell the part about the bow was added in later and they were probably just winging it....sadly, for the Bowyer!"

I have not seen this episode yet, but are you sure they didn't mean bare bow as in free of sights and other such gadgets?  Just a thought.

I took to be bare recurve as in no sights. Ofcourse it was a Sasquatch longbow and not a recurve at all. I was disapointed they never really mentioned his bow. It would have been a good opportunity for someone to learn about something other than a crossbow or compound.Maybe in another episode?  :dunno:

I agree with Bill, I think the bare was in reference to sights.  It would be nice if they would go over the bow some more, and the shooting style.  But what producers want and I want are often two different things.  He does make a great shot though.

Expect more about Kirk and his bows on an upcoming episode.  From what I understand "Sasquatch" himself was pretty upset with the mistake and has demanded that they take care of Kirk a little later on.  We shall see...but it might turn out really well for Bigfoot Bows!!!

Laramy lives near me in SW Colorado.  In addition to the Bear bow comment, I thought I heard a reference to the fact that he was building a fence for his horse due to the fact that winter was coming, the deer were moving down from the mountains, and the wolves would soon follow.  Only problem is we don't have any wolves in the San Juans.

Anyway, it was a good show.  Hopefully he will hunt with that longbow some more before too long and give some credit to the bowyer.
