I'm interested in purchasing a short r/d longbow. So far I've been looking at the Shrew Classic, Big Jim Thunderchild and Bigfoot Yeti. Any experience with these? Or any other suggestions? BTW I draw about 29". Looking for something that won't pinch my fingers and doesn't stack.

Everything is relative. With a 29-inch draw, you can't avoid finger pinch with a short bow, though 3-under ameliorates the problem, and some are less sensitive to pinch than others. The shorter the bow, the more acute the string angle becomes at full draw, and the longer the draw, the more acute it becomes.
All the bows you're considering are about as good as you'll find, and, due to their rather severe r/d, they're well designed for maximum draw length for their length. Good luck.

I can only speak for the t/c, but you might be pleasantly surprised at the lack of finger pinch. I have a 54", and although I have a 28" draw, I have drawn the bow to 30" with no discernible pinch. It shoots fast, hard and straight, and is very quiet.

You should be pleased with either choice and I've never heard but excellent reviews on either. I just purchased a 56" Life Ender and have paid no attentioned to pinch. This bow has been a pleasure to own and I cant wait to spend some quality time in a tree with it. After owning bows up to 64" I will always opt for the shorter. Lots of short bow opinions but you must draw your own conclusion best wishes.

I have a JK Traditions Kanati 60" bow,I have had alot of bows over the years.I am really impressed by the way this short bow shoots.Smooth draw and points well and a well made & solid bow,just a another choice.

Do yourself a favor and look at Leon Stewart's Slammer Special... I cannot say enough about the one I have. I do realize that there are a lot of nice bows out there so you will probably be happy with your choice.

I can only speak for the bow I have, which is a Kanati and it has a big following of fans. You might wanna consider those too. Great bows.

Check out our "Hunter series LB". It doesn't have string contact at full draw, so in that regard it is a longbow, but when I designed this bow I basically tried to produce a quieter and more durable "recurve type" bow for hunters that want a short bow. Recurves are great bows, but I don't make one. I was about to design one at one point, but this "longbow" I felt did everything I wanted from a recurve. This is just my opinion of course.

I have a 56" Shrew Classic Hunter, shoots wonderfull at a smidge under 30" of draw, they will draw farther too.
The Kanati and Big Jim TC have earned themselves a lot of friends also.

I would also strongly recommend looking at the Hoots line of bows too.

One of my first really nice bows was a 58" Lost Creek Life Ender, 48# @ 28". It was a longbow with a lot of r/d that just really smoked an arrow at my 29.5" draw. I convinced myself that I was hurting the little bow drawing it that far. Sold it and bought a 62" Lost Creek Judge that is smooth as butter, but I'm in the process of getting Chad to make me another Life Ender. Those suckers are just plain crisp and fast and I sure didn't notice any finger pinch (split finger).

Thanks for the replies. There are certainly a lot of choices. I will do my homework before I order a bow. All the bows mentioned look like they are of great quality.

I have a 56" 63# 29" Shrew C/H and a 60" 66# Shrew Safari and have no finger pinch and the bows draw very smooth.You cannot go wrong with any of your choices.

Everytime I consider getting a shorter bow than my 58" I have now, I have to remind myself that when strung, there ain't much difference in say, a 58" and a 56" ;) But nothin at all wrong with shootin a short bow if it doesn't pinch. I shoot 3 under so I don't notice much difference. I have a Kanati that I love, and I bought a Lost Creek Life Ender for a friend a while back. I was more than impressed with that Lost Creek. It and the Kanati are similar in performance, and both bowyers are great to deal with. I don't see how you couldn't be pleased with either of those in any configuration :thumbsup:

idk how short you want o go but my 58" hunterbow by idaho curt is a nicer shooter.
also had a beeler tracker that was 56" that was a nice bow as well, loved the grip but it wasnt very fast, didnt feel like it hit the draw weight its marked. but none the less I didnt feel any pinch and it hit where I was looking. Heard alot of people say how fast thier beelers are so idk.

I have a Shrew (54in.) and a Hoots (56in.) Love them both...I have no pinch at 28 1/2 in.

Another Kanati fan here. As a matter of fact I own 2. They are 56" and I'm a 26" draw.

To call a LongBow "Short", kinda' negates the Term LONG Bow, doesnt it? Just My Opinion.. :thumbsup:
