This weeks shoot will be designed around the last four shots I have taken elk with.
First, if possible (we are a lenient bunch aren't we) all shots will be taken within about 15 minutes of shooting light, whether morning or night. Looking at a civil twilight list this week and allowing some play room, shots will all be taken between;
before 6:15am or after 8:00pm
If I'm wrong on these times, let me know. :readit:
Second, we should only be using the bow and arrow combo we intend to use while hunting this year.
It will be four shots.
#1 and #2 14 yards. leaning horizontally, on both knees, with one knee under you and the other one stretched out behind you. The shot should be taken with the bow severely canted, Like this (photo is a link to video);
(http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn33/elkbreath/th_IMG_1381.jpg) (http://youtu.be/ImowRX6tkHs)
#3 is 17 yards. On both knees, with them pointed away from the target.
#4 on one knee @ 17 yards
:knothead: good luck guys.
:campfire:

Oh dude this is like my worst possible combo!
Was out practicing this morning, including kneeling on one or both knees, sitting, standing facing away etc... The only really bad shots were off my knees! Don't know why but I really have issues with shooting kneeling :(
Despite that I am looking forward to it. Great picks a nice realistic challenge this week :)
-
I'm glad you decided against the uphill sprints, cause I'd have to go to Georgia to find a hill.
-
After the 400 yard sprints we could throw in some lunges , squat thrusts(up downs)and maybe a few 10 count push ups.
Actually sounds like fun can't wait. :biglaugh:
-
Those times won't work in this part of the world but i'm sure we can figure it out. I figure the Run might have helped, would have no choice but to kneel (or crawl) at the end of it. :)
Looking forward to another attempt at improving on my barn door grouping.
-
This is so exciting! This is the closest I'm ever going to get to hunting elk!
-
Anybody for a mulligan? I got a baaaad feeling about this.
-
I'll break the ice.
18
a 6 and three 4s.
Too tired to post a pic. I hate summer heat.
-
Missing scores for: wk6 : Schafer, bkyrdshooter, rraming,va, and Fletcher.
Canopyboy did you post the first 5 weeks yet?
I may have missed them.

OK so I went out to do this tonight after a couple of practices over the last couple of days.
In practice I shot pretty well leaned over and was miles away with my knees facing away... And it hurt!
So this is what I got.

10
Best shot was knees facing away, next best was one knee, and the two misses were leaning over!
-
Well at least you shot a good group William. I can't sleep tonite from worrying about how I'm going to get back up after crawling around on my knees that much! :D
-
I can't do that I my spare tier is in the way. Will try it in the am.
-
I shot last night. Not pretty, fat old man trying this.
Missed the first shot, 8 on second.
Missed from backward (sorta) knees, then 4 on regular knee.
It was in my head to call it practice and, have, another go at it tonight too sore to think about it.
No picture too late and hot for that.
Ron scored 12
-
Ok, I went out and shot again. The first time was before 8pm.
This round I shot a 28.

Great shot calls elkbreath. Seems this battered body dont bend so well anymore, put me down for a score of 12. Ive got to say though, that I done better than I expected. (http:// [img]http://images.imagelinky.com/1344214469.JPG) [/IMG]

Shot #1 a solid 8 and I'm thinkin I got this position down! Well pride cometh before the fall and #2 I whiffed.
#3 just caught the top and I bore down for #4 and redeemed myself with another 8.
20 this week but I liked the shot positions elkbreath.

Okay Gents, etc.
I have been propping up the bottom long enough. (Pretty bold talk, as Ned Pepper would say)
So for Week 6 - I was out of town but managed to do the three shots. I find a small target is better for me so I mark the center and then draw rings later. I made 8,8 and 6 for a 22 on week 6.

-
Now for week 7... a test developed by a sadist.
I am back to the bottom where I am much more comfortable. I was feeling bad for threatening that nice center dot...
That is an 8 - two 4s in the same hole.
-
Macbow-- I will be caught up tonight. I will shoot week 7 tonight and post both week 6 and 7 tonight. Sorry had lots going on this past week.
Have been so busy lately I don't know if I have found a rope or lost a horse.
-
Well here are my scores for last week (#6) and this week(#7).
Week #6 = 20
(http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j439/bkyrdshooter/Fun%20Shoot%202012/PTDC0063.jpg)
Week #7 = 10
If week #7 is how shooting Elk is done!!! I'll just stick to my squirrel and rabbits. You can have that Elk hunting!

-
I will get caught up tomorrow, have not shot in awhile so I will keep the scoring low as usual
-
Found some more shooting positions I gotta practice! That way I'll be ready when the Elk show up in my neck of the woods :D
Week 7 totaled out at...24 points

Nope, I've been trying to get my swap bow shot in and sent out. Although the way it was shooting for me I should have put up some paper plates... It goes in the mail today, will get caught up in the next night or two.
-
I've been avoiding this one. I'm not sure I can get my body into this "praying mantis" postion, let alone shoot a bow from it. Elkbreath, you truly are a little bent. :)

Week 6, three 6's for an 18, shot 21 yards, 15 then 10
(http://images.imagelinky.com/1344346244.jpg) (http://images.imagelinky.com/1344346244.jpg)
Week 7, score is 20. missed the 17 yard one knee, I missed a one knee earlier in the shooting and was low then as well
All caught up - sorry for the delay
-
Oh by the way, I am going to shoot these ugly arrows I got from Big Jim on Clearance (3 dozen Vapors) a few years ago, I would like them gone!

I nearly ripped my Wranglers leaning over the extreme lean...my target butt is on the right edge of my property line. My lot slopes downward from front to back, so me being a lefty I was leaning downhill. I just hope my wife wasn't watching out the back window
Challenging shot choices, but I'll pass on those kind if hunting. I'm challenged enough shooting upright.

Sorry it took me so long to get week 6 done, I shot an 18. I'll be shooting week 7 tomorrow night.
Schafer

Well boys, a pair of 6's for me on this one, the twisting also resulted in a pair of aspirin before bedtime.....I like my deer from a tree stand please.....Total 12
-
Big ol 6 this week.

Sorry boys I've been at Rick Weltch's school for 2 days so maybe tomorrow I can shoot and get my score up.
-
Week 7, 22 points.
Broke two nocks earlier today so I shoot only one arrow at time. Not even close to break another ;)
Few days ago switch to shoot three under and feel like can shoot more accurate this way.

Shot #3 just above plate.

Shot 8 8 6 4
26 for the week.
-
26 for me, but too dark for pics

Ok, I'm all caught up. I started shooting about 10 minutes before sunset. I took this week's shots first. The remaining weeks may or may not be considered fair as I was warming up as I went (although my shooting actually got worse). By the time I did Week 5, it was 25 minutes after sunset, 5 minutes left of legal. I could barely make out the white plate in the shadows of the range, let alone see the center. I also had to photoshop this week's label as I got carried away making my plates and forgot week 6 was last week and I had actually done that one. BTW, we score the higher ring if the line is crossed, right? If not, I can correct -- I still have the plates. Anyhow, here are the results:
Week 7: 14 (one didn't really tear the paper)
Week 1: 30
(http://images.imagelinky.com/1344475530.jpeg)
Week 2: 18
(http://images.imagelinky.com/1344475556.jpeg)
Week 3: 24
(http://images.imagelinky.com/1344475582.jpeg)
Week 4: 18 (I totally missed the horizontal shot. Trying again later, I believe I found an area I really need some work on. Close to horizontal is ok, fully horizontal I can't do.)
Week 5: 24 (has anyone else noticed they shoot tight groups when they can't see their arrows fly or land?)
-
Just shot my week 7
Shot 1- 6
Shot 2- miss
Shot 3- 4
Shot 4- 4
Total 14 not to good

Shot it this morning, but I'm on call today so no pics. First 2 shots were 8's. Backwards knee shot was a 6 and the single knee shot was a 4. 26 for me. I liked pretending I was hunting elk, but the imaginary elk steaks left me feeling hungry.
-
loopers in the lead with 28, right?
-
Apparently one of the more difficult practical challenges over the past couple of years.
-
Yes looper is currently in the lead. I don't have a score for elkbreath who subjected us to,this shot sequence.
I'm going to wait till after, dark to post the spreadsheet .

This week I am a picture of what not to do.
Long day at work, exhausted from a run, kids finally in bed...
I sit down and chat with the mrs over a cold glass of some award winning micro brewed ale. 2.5 glasses later my wife reminds me I need to do the Fun shoot... I called it after all! Feeling not unlike a child first trying to ride his bike I jump up and grab my paper targets, bow and arrows. I run out and shoot, my wife laughing the whole way. The first four go great, a 28! I'm feeling on top of the world, then realize shes laughing behind me. I say "what?" she said, you shot all four from your knees, never moved, same spot, same position... :banghead:
IT takes a second to click, but alas she is right. She being the responsible one of the two of us, holds me to my shooting spots. First two are fine, an 8 and 6. Then I back up turn my knees away and forget myself a bit and shot a 4 just outside the line. Pulling all my concentrative powers together, I shoot a six with the outside wall cutting and just inside the line.
Having called this shoot I was hoping for much better this week, it being in my wheelhouse and something I practice every day. But, given the circumstances I will bow for a 24.
Sorry for the crappy picture... we'll just say its a tad dark.
:archer2:

Thanks to all you who have participated, this has been alot of fun!

Well, I finally went out and shot this one. Got to admit I was dreading it. Turned out way better than I thought it would. Missed Number 3, but I can live with that. Looks like a 22.
-
Nothing special, but I hit the paper three times. 4. 6. 4. = 14
-
Well, after some practice in these positions and my 63 year old knees doing some whining, I finally got a few shots dialed in....before the thunderstorms. 28 for me this week.

Dont know 'bout the rest of y'all, but WE of the Bad Knee Society dont like these Kneeling Shots one bit! :scared: BUT WE WILL do Our Best! :archer:
-
How do we pick this? Looks to me like Looper has the closest to center (not by much) hes also got the highest total.
Dan
-
Dan, any way you want. Even picking from a,hat has been used.
Pick and contact please, Thanks.
-
Well no picks but I got a 20 camera is not wanting to work. I shot the first 2 with 8's and missed the 3rd and got a 4 on the last by just cutting the edge of the plate bring on the next one please, make it a little easyer for us new guys lol Mike
-
I'm fine with Looper making the call next week. Just glad I finally had a good day :-)
-
Ok, I'll post up week 8.
-
Please consider this week closed. Post any make up scores in wk 8.
