My good friend Blake Smith just got back from Colorado. He emailed me this picture! Blake is a great hunter and he attended Rod Jenkins clinic at my place. Blake used a clicker for he suffered TP. Not no more he is clicker free. Congrats Blake!

It was Blakes first elk with a bow. He has hunted long and hard for many years. He was only in to the second day and he actually just got back in 4 miles with his funny looking pack string! He is going to send me more pics to post so you can see the nasty critters he uses. He was on his way back to camp from and evening scout/hunt when he jumped elk. This bull gave him a clean shot so he took it. He left the bull go as darkness set in and went to start the trail in the morning. He found him dead 200 yards from his shot. Blake said he felt it was a little to easy and not a whole lot of excitement with screaming bulls. I guess Blake has forgot about all the miserable Grizzly infested hunts up the North fork! Blake also picked this area from studying topos and other info he tracked down. It was his first time ever in this area and he hunted solo! Blake just cause it seemed easy does not mean it was or that you did not earn your first bull. Good job!

Ken he took Rod Jenkins Clinic back in June. I did a write up its in the shooters forum. Blake is a great shot and bowhunter. He used a clicker to help him with his TP. Rod helps you develpoe a solid shot sequence where aiming is the basiclly the second from last thing you do. Expasion/Conclusion comes after. Once Blake understood this it was bo problem for him and after 3 weeks of drills he was confiedent and uses a clicker no more!

Even a blind pig gets an acorn once in a while!
I would certainly recommend Rod's shooting clinic as I shot with a clicker for the past 10 years or so. Can't say that I will never use one again but it sure is nice to not NEED one!

Looks like it was an awesome hunt.

Congrats on a dandy bull! Saw the "Zirkel" Wilderness sign and I'm just shaking my head as it was one year ago today that we left for the Zirkel on our hunt. Can you be both happy for someone and extremely jealous at the same time?! Congrats again.
