Title: KY Doe!
Post by: koger on September 16, 2012, 09:49:00 AM
Folks I am late posting this, happend Wed. morning. I had posted Tuesday about cancelling my bear hunt, was pretty depressed about that, my fathers impending passing. I got up early Wed. first day of my vacation that I could not cancel, and decided to hit the woods, get some fresh air and cobwebs out of my head. I had hardly been in the woods, since 9-1 opener here, due to spending all my spare time with dad. Drove a mile to head into one of my favorite stands, and just as daylight was getting there, walking in, a squirrel hunter started blasting away with a 12gauge, right below my stand. I turned and headed back to the truck, thinking my luck. I went back home, and walked to my back field where I have a stand and permanent natural blind and food ploot. Wind was wrong to use the blind so climbed in the stand. I immediately noticed the acorns dropping from a huge whiteoak. I had been in the stand about 15 minutes, and I see movement off to my right side, here comes a huge doe out of my food plot, heading for the white oak she should pass right by me. I get my bow, stand up, and she stops at 22yds, broadside out in the field, and sticks her head behind a little cedar, picking. I did not think twice, and the arrow was on its way, and stopped with about 8 inches sticking out, tucked in low behind her shoulder. She came unglued took off running and the arrow fell out at about30 yards away, and she went thru the open gate, into my uncles field, just out of sight and crashed into the fence, heard it squeak hard and then another crash, down! I gave here about 15 minutes, could not believe my luck and got down to trail her up, walked thru the gate and started up the rolling knoll an she was lying there about 40 yds away, stone dead, pretty good blood trail. I had picked up the arrow, covered in bright aertial blood. As I walked up to her, about 15 yards away, I looked up and another doe was eating acorns under a oak tree, in a wide open field with her back turned towards me. I knocked another arrow, and took 5 more steps which had the doe quartering away from me,about 30 yds, no clue I was there crunching on acorns, and me standing next to a dead deer! I was kinda shaky, after just going thru a adrenaline buzz, but pulled back, anchored, and let one fly. I watched the flo. yellow feathers skimm her brisket, and she kicked like a mule, and about ran over me as she got the heck out of dodge. She ran about 100yds across the field, looked back and blew, flagged and kept on trucking. I got my arrow, and found some hair, fat, and a couple of drops of blood, but a good miss. I had just plain dropped my arm at the shot. Two shots in 20 minutes or so. Went back to the first doe, and man was she huge.I stopped and gave thanks for the meat, the success, and the blessing I have no doubt God gave me that morning. She dressed out at about #130 according to my buddy's hanging scales. When skinning her, the Ace head had done a number on the off shoulder that had stopped it, busting it up and cutting it all to crap as she ran off. I had put a huge hole thru the top of the heart, bottom of both lungs, liking these big 2 blades more all the time. I was grateful for the meat, a little time in the woods, and a bright spot in a gloomy week. Thought I would share, even though a few days late guys.

I am sorry to hear about your lose.  But, one thing is for sure, God sure knows what to give us when we need it.  You are sure right about God giving you this morning.  Sometimes though the was he gets us ready for the blessings he has in store seems like bad luck, but is nothing more than getting us where we need to be to get it.  Good luck, keep the faith brother, and God Bless

Way to hang tough.
That whole scene on your land was a blessing after your troubles.
That meat will bring lots of memories.
