Title: Questions on fletching woodies.

I am getting ready to fletch my first 1/2 dozen Douglas Fir shafts. I stained them and wiped on 3 coats of Minwax Polycrylic. Should I rough the area where the flecthings will go to give the glue better adhesion? I have fletch tite platinum and duco cement on hand. Which will work best for fletching and gluing on the nocks?

Without crown dippng...my personal choice would have been Bohning Super Coat. Two light coats on the area to be fletched, then use Bohning glue. Duco will work on the mixwax...I just preferred Bohning to Bohning...

Duco. I use fletch tape on everything now: woodies, carbons, and aluminum. I add a dab of glue to the front of each feather just to keep it from poking me in the finger when I shoot. The tape holds well and is way faster to use.

Thanks for the tips guys. And thanks to Darin Putman. If he hadnt sent me 3 douglas fir arrows to try I might still be standing on the sideline wondering about shooting wood arrows as opposed to actually shooting them. The first half dozen are pretty plain. I used Minwax Cherry stain and Polycrilic as a sealer I might try something a little more fancy. Has anyone ever tried rit clothing dye on arrows? Here are the first 3 all fletched up and waiting for points to be glued on:

Rit dye works well.
Mix it with a bit of denatured alcohol and you're good to go. Adjust the alcohol/dye ratio for the color you want. Either the powdered dye or the liquid will do the job.
