I want to thank everyone for supporting Hayden he has worked very hard to get ready for this year. And i want to thank Ohio DNR for not having an age limit to hunt and just having a 40lb bow limit. At the age of 10 he is shooting 44lbs at 24 inches. And yes i did the filming and lost track of the deer when i was grunting at her to try to stop her, I'm not very good at it.I was panicking.

Great job, Eagleeye. Your storytelling skills rank with the best.
I am picturing the pride you must feel when this beautiful doe feeds your family. It is a blessing to be able to give back to your loving family, through the gift that the doe gave you.
Congrats also to the community support. We are so lucky when we have family and friends like Warden the Bowyer to help us pursue our dreams.

Congrats Hayden! I have a son the same age as you and you have inspired him. He's been hunting with a compound because he could pull the legal weight which is 40lbs here in Oklahoma. He has a recurve but it's only 25 lbs. Anyway, he wants to sell his compound and light recurve and buy a longbow or recurve that he can actually hunt with. So we are shopping for one now and we are wondering what kind of bow are you shooting?
-
Congratulations Hayden... "High 5"; way to go!!
-
That is so cool, a trad kill at his young age . The little guy is trad for life. :clapper:
-
Congrats Hayden!!! It's about time you show your dad and uncle how it's done. Awesome first!
-
Tsalt, Hayden is at school now but he will get with you tomorrow morning and tell you about his equipment.
-
Way to go young man, great deer, great shot and a great story!!!! :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
-
One thing i have found in looking for a bow for a kid is that a bow needs to be short under 56" so when shooting out of a tree the bottom limb stays off their leg.I would recommend a 52"- 54"
-
Ben or Hayden, Could you also give some details about the hit and and performance of the arrow?
You can pm if you'd like....
I know you and Cade were close equipment wise....any info would be helpful.....
Congrats again, you're the "rock star" of Trad gang this week! :jumper:
-
Congrats, great job, well done.
-
Curt,His bow is 54@28 but Hayden has a 23 1/2 draw witch is 43lb his arrow is GT1535 26" 150gr WW right at 400gr total. He hit behind the last rib below the spine angled forward the deer was past us when he shot. The arrow penetration about 12" As the deer ran away i thought he was to far back but the deer only ran about 20 yards and slowed down and i could see blood running down the deer. The doe only went about 60 yards and fell over when we gutted her he never hit the guts {I'm not sure how but he didn't}Hope this helps Hayden is a very large 10 year old 5'2" 130lb which helps him hold that kind of weight. (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/th_MAH00195.jpg) (http://s268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/?action=view¤t=MAH00195.mp4)
-
Great job, Hayden!
-
Absolutely amazing. Way to go Hayden. People like you will determine the future of our passion. I'm glad your Dad is your teacher. By the way. I did not kill my first deer till I was 16 and that was with a compound! You should be proud as should your father.
-
Hayden... what a great story. I was a few years older than you when I shot my first. I can still smell the forest and hear it's sounds. The memory of my doe will be with me all of my days as I'm sure yours will as well.
You've got a great Dad and family. Follow their example and life will always be sweet for you.
I'm looking forward to more stories. Have a great rest of the season.
