Title: Javelina Corn Mix
Post by: acolobowhunter on October 23, 2012, 12:28:00 PM
We are getting ready to head to Texas again for javelina.  One time I read about a corn mix for javelina, so I made some, using milk and corn in a 5 gallon bucket.  Someone said to add some diesel to get it to sour quicker.  I don't like the thought of adding diesel, so tried some cheap whiskey.  When at camp, I took the lid off the bucket and some javelina came right into camp, following the scent.  Has anyone else tried something like this.  Also tried a javelina 3D decoy last year.  Think it spooked them more that it worked.  Just looking for more fun things to try on those critters.

I also did some calling of javelina last year with my preditor call.  It really worked.  Someone suggested using a stuffed rabbit as a decoy.  Has anyone tried this?

Te corn mix you refer to is similar to what we'd use for hogs.  You want it to smell RIPE! They will find it and come into it.

The diesel is generally used with dry corn. It keeps deer and coons from eating the corn because of taste/smell. The hogs don't mind the diesel so they eat it up.

Another thing to try would be strawberry jello mix. Just mix the dry powder in with the corn and add some water/milk/beer. Yu get the idea.
