Title: looking for a leather crafter, custom work only.
Post by: Tajue17 on November 08, 2012, 07:32:00 AM
I am trying to find someone who I can send knives too, that will make me 2 custom sheaths 1 horizontal and one with a 25 gegree lean like a mtn man style that are custom made for the knife I send.

I also want an arm guard with sheath made but for my knife only which was made by another knife maker and easily fits the criteria of a small knife that would be sheathed onto an arm guard (PRJ 3" blade/Giraffe handle) and the arm guard  will be a certain length that I want but longer to go from my wrist to elbow but an inch shorter and the knife handle is facing my wrist on the bottom when your holding your arm up.

talked with another sheath maker and his work is great but I need something different.

who out there in cyber world will take my specs and I'll send them 1 knife at a time and make me something truely custom made?

Steve Catts, "Leathersmith", made me a cross-draw sheath that I'm totally happy with. Lots of folks here have his quivers; he makes armguards also.

Art Vincent, "Cedar Ridge" leather, is a sponsor here that also does custom work, I haven't used his work myself but again, lots of folks here speak highly of him.

Scott Teaschner, owner of Wyoming Wildlife Artistry (307)587-9979) does work that pictures don't do justice to. He is a superb Craftsman.

Another Steve Catts plug. I personally think most back quivers for common hunting situations are far too roomy/noisy, so I had Steve Catts make me up a custom 4-5 arrow back quiver, since I don't need to haul a dozen hunting arrows anywhere. The quiver is top quality, and with the top opening being only 4" across and lambs wool lined, the fletchings hold the arrows in place so well that I could sprint with the loaded quiver on my back and it wouldn't make a sound.
If I was going to have something similar made, I'd call Steve Catts in a heartbeat.

thank you guys I'll do some checking with these folks and see who can help me out, very important that its made for my knife which I can send till its completed..    mojostick,,, I agree with you 100percent on that,, also take into condieration with a loose quiver if you fall or stumble forward you could easily get a few arrows stuck in the face or neck with a loose back quiver,, tight to the back and smaller for the essential amount,, heres  trick to ad to the next custom amde back quiver like you described is broahdhead sheaths inside with raw hide tether cords just long enough so you can sheath the broadhead at the top of the quiver and then pull the cord out through a tight hole on the bottom of the quiver as you put in the arrow and finally tie a small knot in the raw hide so it won't come out with the broadhead when you take the arrows out,,     well 4 or 5 tight holes with the rawhides eventually tied together under the bottom of the quiver then again as you remove an arrow it pulls the broadhead from the little sheath there inside and no dull broadheads.
