Title: Droppings in scrapes?
Post by: Knawbone on December 01, 2012, 07:05:00 PM
Two years in a row now I have found Deer droppings in scrapes. The one scrape I believe may have been made by a Doe. I believe it is a Doe that is leaving these droppings. Has anyone ever seen this behavior before. Personally, I have never seen droppings in a scrape before.    :dunno:  Whats your take on it?

Deer pooped and peed at the same time.  Not uncommon.

I have seen droppings in scrapes on multiple occassions.  I always assumed it was a natural reaction to the smell of urine in and around the area.  Deer void based on scent just like other animals.

Thanks Guys, Iv' hunted Deer 35 or so years and have never seen this before, or I have and never thought to much about it until now. Not common in my area I guess, but the presents of an active Doe in both instences has me woundering to say the least. I'll see what happens tomarrow-hopefully.I know Does will make what is called a community scrape, but the scrape without a licking branch is unique.

I've actually seen deer droppings in scrapes quite a few times. I've never seen it done when the scrape was made fresh. Not sure that it means anything other than, while all their other senses were working in overdrive, the deer had to go.

I've personally seen it in about 5% of the scrapes locally just a guess. It's amazing how different deer are from area to area.

With that said I've just got to add this, just the other day I fella I work with busted through the door of the bldg we was working in and said I quote

" Get out of the litter box this cat has to ****" Lol I never heard that before and about died laughing. Maybe just maybe this explains deer droppings in scrapes?
