He's the best story teller, bar none!!
-
We were lucky enough to have him speak at our state club the second year after we started and what a story teller !!! Still laugh about the way he described the African guides calling him, " Boss "...... :biglaugh:
-
Great article. No doubt. I read a few weeks ago.
-
Now that is an Alaskan adventure! Monty can sure tell a great story.
I'm pretty sure Annie was glad his prayers were answered as well!
-
WOW what a story and leggendary hunter!
-
What an amazing adventure! Mr. Browning sure can tell a tale, love his writings.
-
It is even better when you get to hear it in person. Monty did a presentation last year at Compton on that hunt and it was chilling.
I have a spot reserved in the Alaska wilderness soon to follow in his footsteps...without the scary stuff!
-
I love reading his stories.
-
I was totally impressed with his story telling ability but more so by his faith.
Thanks for sharing.
God bless,Mudd

Steve, you're right. I had the pleasure of seeing him at Kazoo many years ago. He told the story of walking up on a feeding bear with cubs, realized he left his pistol on his pillow back at camp. I don't think there was a dry eye in the auditorium. Also, good luck and happy hunting on your Alaskan adventure!

"The Mariner was not a full size or professional raft but it was the right size and weight to be tossed out of a Super Cub. It was not designed for fast water, rocks, sweepers, or hauling 700 pounds of moose meat plus one grown man and all of his gear. Pile a moose rack and skull on top of that and you have the perfect recipe for disaster--that's me."
LOL, thats classic Monte Browning.
Had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago at a sportsmans banquet at a local Church. As fine a Gentleman as you will ever meet!

Monty is pure class I had the opportunity to shoot with him years ago at some 3D shoots. He knocked the McKenzie targets nearly over he was shooting a 95lb homemade Hill style longbow with fiberglass fish arrows. He told me he was sure if a yearling walked under his stand those arrow would kill it if he just dropped one on it. He also spoke at our Traditional Bowhunters of Georgia banquet. Great christian man, husband, and bowhunter. Any yes he has a fantastic tolerent wife his stories are spell binding. You gotta hear the cape buffalo story!
-
It was a great read.
-
Cool story Joey. Thanks. You ever have any luck getting him into the hall of fame?
-
Most-excellent story!
Praise the Lord for all of the blessings! Amen.

I know a story behind the story.... :saywhat:
-
I heard he was planning on writing a book on all his travels and hunts...anyone got the good oil on this matter???
ak.
-
Al, there is definitely a book in process from Mr. Browning.
-
 What a writer...I also enjoy hearing him speak so boldly about his faith.
I'll bet if those arrows are ever found they are mistaken for spears :)
-
I remember the first morning in camp...gray and somber skies...a damp chill. We gathered for a group picture, and then watched Monty shoulder his frame pack and hike away upriver and into the wilderness. Bryan and I just looked at each other...and went hunting.
10 days later...seeing Monty float into our camp...his raft in tatters...missing some gear. He was soaked and pale from the cold. We helped him ashore and into camp as the sunset turned to dark. What an evening that was!
-
"You are one crazy man." I took it as a compliment.
:biglaugh:
-
We've been hearing stories about a book for years now, why not get it done. I'm not gettin any younger, lol! :dunno:
-
Fantastic read!
-
That is hunting on the edge . . .
Look forward to his talk at Kalamazoo.
-
Monty is the man. I never get tired of his stories.(nut)
-
I just read it and gotta say as much as I love a good adventure I think I would be very afraid of that river ride. Hell I was scared for him just reading it!
-
Jon,
We talked to Monty after his presentation. It scared him dearly and deeply. He got thru it all with Faith and help from above. He said he is done on that river and I believe him!
-
This may have been a hunting trip, but it appears to be a fight for survival.
-
Great reading! Great Adventure!
Typical of most Alaska wilderness hunts!
Never ending excitement

Monty is indeed working on his book....and the reason the story appears on the website as opposed to in the magazine is a timing thing. Right now TBM (the print mag) is booked a couple years in advance with stories....as some of you know, they get a right of "first publication" of their stories when you sign the contract. Monty did'nt want to wait so long, hence the story on the web. In other words...this story will likely be in his book and he needed to fulfill those obligations to TBM.
I talked with Monty a week or so ago about all this, and he is moving forth in his efforts. He just wants to make sure it is a "great" effort on his part to produce a great book for all of us.
-
I can't wait. It will be a best seller.
-
That was a spectacular story!
-
Thanks guys for the heads up on Monty's up and coming book. I have always enjoyed reading his work and as a budding writer myself its always good to see someone getting it all down in book form. I'm a few years off (an adventures as well) from a book...

Great Story!
-
I heard this story in person, and Monty can tell a story. He told me about being up in Alaska once and ran out of food and was living on a carcass left by fellow hunters.
The Man sure walks by faith and is true testament for us all, but Jesus did say do not tempt the Lord Thy God...LOL!
Good Job Monty
-
Wow, what a story!!! I can't wait for his book to come out!!! is there a way to pre-order?
-
Fantastic ! I admire his courage and his faith ! It takes a real man to face fears of that sort and still hang on to our faith ! God is always there, we are the ones who leave him, a lot of times in our darkest moments we try to handle dire situations on our own ! Well told and way to represent IMO !
-
Great read!!! Met him and his wife once 1/2 dozen years ago. I am sure every man on here will send him their hunting resume so he never has go alone again :clapper: :clapper:
-
My one regret is not getting a picture or video of Monty drifting down the final stretch of river towards our camp.
It was quite the scene...a tattered, overloaded raft that could barely float. Monty was water-logged, cold and exhausted. The palms on his hands were literally shredded flesh.
I was down to the river first and I remember yelling to Kevin in the tipi..."get down here, it's Monty and he's got a MOOSE!!"
I was sure happy to see him make it back safely and maybe my mental picture is the best one there is...
-
I am really looking forward to getting a copy of Monty's book!
Anyone have any updates on how things are progressing!
Keep the wind in your face!

I've had the pleasure of hearing Monty speak on several occasions and he is the best storyteller there is.
Plus meeting him and talking first hand is a pleasure. A most humble and nice guy.
He told that story last year at our UBM banquet and it was spellbinding. God takes care of his own.
-
WoW! What a story, I’m soaking wet and freezing cold now and in need of a :campfire:
-
That was a fantastic telling of a great story! Hats off to Monty, or anyone else, who gets to experience such solitude!

-
I would love to buy his book and hear more stories :) That was a great hunt!
-
Yes, Monte tells a great story, I just hope others don't try to follow his example and die.
Here in Alaska dying just isn't that hard.
