Kent Zocher got it done in short order on opening morning of the Florida turkey season. Eleven or twelve inch beard, 1.25" spurs! He is hunting pigs now to try and finish up his South Florida slam. I will let Kent tell the story when he gets home. (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn66/tarponnut/Kentsturkey011.jpg) (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn66/tarponnut/Kentsturkey004.jpg)

I met Kent Zocher Saturday morning at his hotel. After a quick introduction, we headed to the ranch. Irv and I had set a pop-up blind in a back meadow(the one near the Double stand, for those that have hunted with us before). We placed the blind on the advice of Ken Gordon who watched a big tom strut out there the weekend before(while hog hunting).
Kory Kais had shot a nice boar the evening before and we were going to track it around 9:30 am.After getting Kent in place, I met Irv for coffee and waited for a call from the Kais' to go help them track.....

Nice bird

Nice bird...has some hooks on him!

Nice hooks Kent! Any Oceola is a great bird - that one is way over the top.
Congratulations!

Jim,
Hope we can get one just as nice for Sean. They were vocal this AM.
I just talked to him. He'll be late. Flight problems out of New Jersey.
Kent is still working on that hog. I put him out early again this AM.
Those guys are looking forward to hunting together for a bit. It'll be nice.

Wow, That's one awesome Osceola gobbler!! The video is cool,in Kent's voice, you can really hear how gracious he is to have the opportunity.
As a turkey nut myself, I can only imagine how good he was feeling in that video!!
Congrats Kent :notworthy:
-
Yup,Kent is a world class turkey hunter and knows how special that bird is.
Sean Bleakley is there now trying to work his calling majic. We are going to give it a whirl in the am.
-
Beautiful Osceola Kent! Congratulations. Sean, good luck to you!!!
-
A sincere "Thank You!" to all of you for your congrats!! I really appreciate it! It's so amazing to see so many fellow archers genuinely happy for each other's successes. It's one of the reasons I'm so proud and humbled to be part of such a great fraternity. Thanks again!
To Jim and Irv of True South Adventures, I had an amazing hunt and can't wait to return! Irv and Jim are hard working outfitters, guides and hunters and are in this for all of the right reasons. If you're interested in taking a swing at an Osceola, give TSAs your consideration. They have a large population of birds w/little to no hunting pressure. I saw and heard birds every day of my hunt and their property is crawling with critters of all kinds from birds, to hogs, to armadillo, to gators and snakes!! A True South Adventure!!!! :) Sean has been texting me updates and has been talking w/ some gobblers last night and this AM. It's just a matter of time, buddy!! Continued luck and I can't wait to hear all the details, Sean.
Good Hunting to Y'all!!
~Kent

-
Nice turkey sure hope I can get one with my recurve this year.
-
OUTSTANDING!!!
-
Kent. I'd like to hear about your set up/hunt...decoys, how much calling you did, etc.....
-
Great bird!! Congrats on a Florida bird!
-
Congrats Brother!!!! We had a great time. I'll let u know how tomorrow goes!!

Sure Curt... The "skinny jake" i mentioned in the video I believe is a flextone funky chicken deke. Skinny body, long neck, very unthreatening (Irv's secret weapon!). We set him up @ 10 yards, between myself and two "standard" hens. I've killed several nice gobblers using a single hen set w/ a Cally Morris stuffer deke and that's usually my go-to. But, this ugly little thing worked very, very well on this bird! In regards to my calls, very basic clucks, purrs and yelps on pot and box calls and very sparse. I will talk back if being spoken to, otherwise, very subtle and conservative. I leave the "real" turkey talking to the experts!! I've hunted w/many amazing callers, Sean B. is one of the best I've had the pleasure of hunting with. So, Sean should probably chime in on this one. However, I do believe that osceolas tend to be much less talkative than there subs and if they gobble at you, they're likely hot and on the way. This gobbler came in totally silent and almost gave me a heart attack :)
-
Congrates Kent! That is a dandy Osceola.
-
That's cool Kent!
I figured from the video that it was the "Funky Chicken" decoy that was being referred to. Wierd looking but probably irresistible for a gobbler not to come a bully around...pretty cool that it worked so well for you.
Cally Morris is a good friend of mine....don't talk much now that he's always on the go. But I've known him since '87. I met him on my first elk hunt, he was one of the guides. Then never saw him again till my taxidermy competition days. We became close and I hunted his farm a few times in the early 2000's. Him and Annetta are awesome people and hardcore hunters!!
I've always heard that Osceola's don't talk much, that's why I asked. What time was it that you killed him?
Congrats again on a dream come true!!
-
Great bird. What bow are you using now?
-
Congrats. gotta love those giant spurs!
-
Beautiful bird Kent! Congratulations.
-
Kent was using a borrowed Dale Dye recurve 50# something at 28".
Beautiful bow and bird.
-
Nice bird! Sounds like a great place to hunt!
-
Kent, thanks for the kind words brother, it means a lot coming from you!!
Curt, these birds are definitely different than Easterns. Gobbling on the roost and VERY sparingly on the ground if at all. I called in 2 hens while kent was in the blind with me, again, didn't have that agitated cutting, clucking or yalping. Not even purring..just very soft yalps and a few clucks.
Kent's the real deal when it comes to hunting, and he's humble as can be.
I'm still down here, I'll start my thread tomorrow when I get home.
-
Can't wait to hear all about it....and I hope you took a bunch of pix!
-
Nice Turkey!
I just bought a bow with Kents name it,does that mean I get to shoot big turkeys too?
-
That bow definitely has mojo, I'm sure!! He kills more than just big turkeys!!!
-
Thanks for the kind words Kent. Looking forward to next spring and hunting with you again.
-
I left a broad head last year
in the roots of that tree where you missed the squirrel . Looked like the same squirrel.
-
Great Job Kent!
Thanks for the pics you sent.
Lets do that hunt with Jim next year...
-
Thanks so much for hunting with us, Kent. It was very kind that you said we are in this thing for the right reasons. We both appreciate that.
Jim and I speak several times a day and the topic is always centered around customer service. Before tarting TSA, the two of us hunted with just about every known outfitter in Florida, and we strive to make sure every one of our clients has a good experience.
It bothers us when a hunter doesn't take home an animal, but just knowing that the trad community is more about the experience than the harvesting, helps ease our minds somewhat.
There's always several factors controlled only by the Good Lord, and that's why it's called hunting.
We always joke about the glamorous life of a hog guide, and some of you know what I mean. It's long hours, and there's a lot do do behind the scenes, but being able to help some really gratious people realize their dreams, is worth every minute to us. I think it's a privilege, and I do it because I love it.
Thanks for noticing, Kent. And thanks to all of our clients for their positive comments.

Jim and Irv....thanks again and i'm looking forward to our next hunt together! Bill and I will touch base to try to coordinate our trip together for next season and maybe he'll teach me how to get it done on a big, gnarly old boar!! I think they're just too smart for me ;) , but between Langer, Dussias and Eichorst we should be able to find one dumb one, for me!! Ttys all... off to Nebraska for sum more gobbler action this weekend! I think i'll need to wear a snowmobile suit due to this lovely "spring" weather we've been having :( . Missing Florida 80's rt. now!

Million dollar smile! Congratulations!
