Received some 400 spine easton axis trads the other day and they are shooting horrible out of my bow, my gt 5575 shafts tune great and fly awesome. These arrows through paper always tear high and bare shafts fly nock high as well. Dont understand why, have tried moving the nocking point up and down and have tried several different point weights. They also seem to drop like crazy compared to the 5575's. Regret buying these arrows right now, way more expensive then the gold tips and the hit inserts are a HUGE pain to remove, even with hot melt.
Out of ideas here

If they do not fly tight you can bet it is the spine. You show 47# and 45# as your bows at bottom of post. Unless you are shooting a very heavy point .400 is too stiff spine for those bows.
Try adding more point weight just to see how they fly. Also you did not say if you cut he shafts, short shafts also get stiff.

I think you need to treat the new Axis arrows like the completely different arrows that they are, they might require a slightly different setup than the GTs. The have a similar spine value, but the way they behave coming of your bow might not be so similar. I think the Axis is smaller in outside diameter than your Gold Tips, that in itself will change a lot of things, not the least of which will be your nock point (probably need to come down a little bit).
I agree with you on the HIT inserts, Axis is a nice shaft but I don't like the inserts.
-
Might try a different nock, I've seen that happen before...
-
Check the nock fit on the string. Should dislodge with just a tap.
-
If I remember correctly the insert in the axis sits further back into the shaft than on the GT's. I would try a heavier point, since your spine is effectively heavier as a result of this.

.400 spine goldtips cut a little under 31with 100gr insert and 125gr broadhead fly like lazers from this set up, this arrows seem to fly worse with more weight up front.completly lost with this set up

I was thinking nock fit could have something to do with it, just getting really inconsistant results when bare shafting as well. It will fly nock left one shot, nock right the next, mostly nock high either way. First time I never had consistant bareshaft results

Without knowing all the specifics such as draw lenght and center cut,it is difficult to diagnose. However, if your draw and weight is as listed for your bows then I believe the shafts are way stiff.
-
Always nock high is often a result of the nock to tight or to loose on the string. Try to work with that a little and you will get it figured out.
-
Do you shoot 3 under? If so, try a double nock (one above and one below the arrow) to keep the arrow from sliding on the string after release.
-
I would say you are over spined with that set up unless your bows are cut way past center. However that shouldn't have too much to do with you getting nock high results. My recommendation is to start with a very high nock point like 3/4" or even 7/8" high and work your way down until you get the right nock point then work on your spine issues.

this bow tunes perfect with the gold tip 400 spine set up. Bareshafts fly straight and paper tunes bullet holes. Only way to get a 500 spine to tune was to use 100gr tips. Anyways did some shooting this morning and the eastons seem to be flying better, full length bare shaft flys good with a 100gr tip and 50 gr insert.
nock fit is a little tight, should I just sand the inside down a tad bit?
-
also my set up, idk what how its cut to. but 47# at 26" I draw around 27.5" and use a 8190 endless loop with 2 nocking points. nothing else on the string.
-
making some progress :) I shaved a little off my nocks to they release with a lite pluck on the string. Full length with 50gr insert and 125gr tip show a little weak so I think im going to remove the 50gr insert and install a normal one and try to use a 200gr point so I can get some broadheads with better blade angles. thanks

400 are too stiff with a 45 lb bow. Even with a heavy tip it's still not going to fly correctly. Trust me I've tried this over and over. Up to 50# and un cut. Still stiff. They do ok out of my 55# longbow. So they are worth keeping. See if someone will swap them for 500s. Actually I'm suprised the. 5575 do well as with my 45s. I've gone down to the 1535s
-
I am sorry but those .400 are way over spined. I know tons of guys with great arrow flight that shoot 30" .400 spine and draw 28-29"s and shoot 250-325 graisnof point weight out of 60-65# high performance bows. Shawn

my bows must be weird then. anyways bare shafts and fletched are shooting great now, bareshaft actually shows a little weak. looks much much much better through paper as well since I chopped them down more.
What bows are you guys using that are over 50# and wont tune 400's? My omega was about 53# at my draw length and only way it would shoot 500's was if I used a 100gr tip and it tuned great with 400's with 145gr tips and the regular insert. 45# titan tuned 500 spine easy and the hunter is tuned really really good with the gt tip 400 spine and getting better with the eastons. Seems insane that someone with a 28+ draw and a 60# bow would need the that much weight upfront with the shafts that long. also what string? with angel majesty this bow needed 1535's to tune, 450 tuned 500 spine with 200 gr upfront, switched to 8190 and everything else shot real weak.
-
also not trying to start a argument and i appreciate the help and opinions. My results just dont seem to match, my GT 400's are cut almost to short for broadheads and with a 100gr insert and 125gr tip they fly amazing.
-
little update. after playing a little more with my knock point the arrows are flying good. Tried some broadheads and they are shooting with the field points, last time I tried broadheads they shot way right, this is much better. Look good in flight as well at 30 yds and hitting where I look. still not done tuning but much happier :) going to have to try the arrows with regular inserts next, cant chop these down any more without getting shelf contact and feel like I could shave a little off. plus I rather shoot 175gr or 200 gr heads so I can get better blade angles
-
400 spine axis were not doing it for me. got good results but not amazing. no matter what It showed weak. Switched to 350spine black eagle deep impacts with 150gr tips and right now the bare shaft is still showing weak and hit a inch to the right of the flighted at 15 yds, will do more tuning thursday. suprised i needed to go to 350spine with this bow. axis will go up for sale
-
got to shooting at 25 yrd. the black eagles are almost vap size, full length 33gr outsert 100gr tip is still showing a weak but its way way way better then the axis shafts were shooting. the fletched black eagles are flying really nice. going to keep experimenting with these and might order a few 300spine vaps to play with
-
My experience mirrors yours. Anything above #45 takes at least a. 400 spine to get decent arrow weight. Shooting. 340 most of the time.
-
from what im seeing so far I will most likly have to trim these down to get 150gr tips to work and dont think I go go short enough to get 200gr to tune right. I would like to use 200gr tips if possible so I can get broadheads with a better blade angle. think going to 300 spine vaps or black eagles will be the ticket
