Some friends and I have been throwing this one around a bit. All good fun - kinda like what you would do if you won the Power Ball lottery (come on, admit it, you've thought about it yourself even if you don't buy tickets :p ).
If the Trad Bowhunt Genie offered you ONE wish to hunt anything/anywhere with any Traditional celebrity (living) -
- What would you hunt?
- Where would you hunt it?
And, which living trad "celebrity" would it be with?
By "celebrity", it can be anyone that you choose - a notable TG member, a bowyer, a guide, an author, etc. - you get the idea!
What do you say? If you had that one wish, what would it be :goldtooth: !
-
Spot and stalk hunt grizzlies in Alaska with Ted Nugent. I literally start every deer hunt I go on listening to Fred Bear by Ted. Of course I would make Ted put down the wheels and pick trad gear up again!
-
Bighorn sheep in Montana with Papa Bear.
-
Bob, I can't just pick one, you did just say I won the powerball.
I would keep it a little simple though, maybe with a higher success potential than these other guys.
1). Elk with the Wensels.
2). Bear Quest with bow doc
3). Caribou with rcorrbitt and Charlie Lamb
No set order.
-
Alaskan moose with Fred Bear.
Living?
I'd like to shadow a few guys on here, but I'll not mention names. Too many that I hold in respect to mention some names and not others. I guess there's alot of good folk 'round here.
-
Cape buffalo with Steve Turay!
-
More time to hunt.
-
Colorado Elk with Byron Ferguson, besides being a good show-man and a southerner he's always seemed very approachable for as well known as he is,(think you should have underlined LIVING trad celebrity).
-
Spot and Stalk coastal black bears with Don E. Thomas!!
steve
-
I would like to do a multispecies hunt with AdirondackMountain Ken, with bear on my mind. I would also like to hunt sika with Steve Kendrot and Pinecone. Any hunt with a biologist would be a real boost to my mind and soul. Any shrink worth her salt can come across as a good human bean. Pinecone is, I believe, the real deal. And her bows would fit me. :bigsmyl:
Killdeer~ my list goes on and on, how about a week hunting ANYTHING with Rough Country? My joints hurt just thinking about it!
-
All expense paid African hunt with Andy Ivy
-
I would hunt Elk (and make time for some excellent trout fishing)....On my own 10000 acre ranch (I don't have one yet, but that would be part of the Power Ball deal) :D ...in whatever state works best for such an arrangement.
I would BE the celebrity, having just won the Power Ball. I would invite the best tax accountant/trad hunter there is, if such a person exists, and make sure we hide some of that money from The Man! :goldtooth:
Kingsnake
-
Holy crap!!! I wish I were a CPA!!!
Killdeer :knothead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
-
Float hunt the Moose John river, Alaska for moose bou and bears, with several of the trad gang stars here.
-
Well, he is not quite a celebrity but I sure would like to go on a bear hunt with Pierre from SBD strings. I would let him decide where.
I would be thrilled to hunt wit him sometime!
-
Elk in Colorado for a month with my boys.
-
Actualy, old woodchucker is pretty easy to please.....
I'd like to head up to the Adirondacks & hunt "Kenny's mountain" with all my TradGang Brothers... Adkmountainken, Cyclicrivers, Bowspirit, Drewsbow, Toecutter, Frenchymanny, mcgroundstalker, Joe Skipp, RonW, and BOTH of my boys, Tyler & Kevin!!!
Climb the mountain, clear a spot under the huge Hemlocks, and set up a big TeePee. Hunt for a month... All expenses (and lost wages) paid by the Powerball Jackpot!!!!! Far enough in to be "secluded" Yet just a hike (and a gutwrenching climb) away from "resupply" LMAO!!! The storys we'd tell, meals we'd eat, Stumpshoots we'd have, The campfires, and yes... The hunting we'd do!!!!! It would be a memory to last a lifetime..... Also, being as I had a "Genie" to grant me a wish... It would be, to be standing behind Tyler, looking over his shoulder, as he arrows his 1st deer..... A fine looking Adirondack Buck!!!!!
Just one old woodchucker's wish.....
-
Roger Rothhaar and I on a Grizzly hunt in B.C or Alaska !
-
Good post Bob. Keep them coming guys.
This thread reminds me, or should I say emphasizes why we hunt with a stick and string. It's not at all about lots of kills or the biggest dead animal (although these things are good :bigsmyl: ). It's the enjoyment of the hunt ... always made better if shared with a friend. We accept that we have trimmed our chances of success by choosing "two sticks and a string" yet we would not have it any other way.
-
Killy....You would have been my first choice, but I have got to hang onto some of that money and I just KNOW you'd be conning me into buying three of every trad bow there is! :bigsmyl:
Kingsnake
-
Float trip for moose and bear. I would that Fred Bear with me.
-
I just did it last September. Caribou hunt with my buddy T.J.
If granted another, it would be a combination bowhunt/photo safari in Africa with anybody who's into doing both.
Jerry
-
Fred bear in alaska. I don't case what we were hunting for. But since fred is gone, I'll have to pick another fred. Fred asbell. Again in alaska.
-
That my bow that's "on order" would show up tomorrow instead of two more months.
-
I think a week or so at Shrew Haven with Mr. Ron would be as good as it gets, but don't know if the Genie has enough clout to get into Ron's camp.

OHHHHHHHH, now that that would be a memory. Let the snow fall!
-
I kinda like ol' woodchucker's idea about spending some time up in the Adirondack mountains with Ken and everyone. In dry weather, of course!
Ya know, I think you could learn a whole lot by spending a week or two at Shrew Haven with Ron LaClair. And maybe learn a little bit about hunting, too.
-
Yep, a week with Ron LaClair at Shrew Haven, or
An Alaska black bear hunt with Don Thomas, or
An Australian buff hunt with Karen Campbell (might, let Jay tag along ;) !), or ......!!!
There are SO MANY CHOICES!!
This is fun!!
BTW, Fred, Caribou is my on bucket list!
-
I would wish that I could vanish into the wilderness with my bow and full quiver never to be seen again. Whatever happens between now and never seen again is the good part.
-
Get the Turkey Grand Slam, with my friend Chuck. God bless.
-
Caribou or elk hunt with Lowebow! (I know you've never heard of him but he's a celebrity in his own mind)
-
Bighorn Sheep in Montana. I'd want to go with my son or friend Jim.
In fact, I need to check right now to see if I drew the "Tag of a Lifetime" that I applied for in June!
-
I've never hunted hogs so I'd like to hunt hogs with RC in the swamps. I think he could probably show you more in a few days then you could learn yourself in a few years.

A combo Dall ram/caribou hunt in Alaska with whoever wants to go! I would like to go with my grandfather and dad. They raised me a hunter
-
Had an opertunity to hunt with Uncle Barry on Bear Quest 6, but he had to drop out for medicle reasons. But anything with the Wensels, or Alaska for moose with Mike Mitten.
-
Now that I think of it, I;ve shared a hunting camp with some well known Traditionalists, Spring Bears with tom Philips, Bowdoc, Jeff Tippit Springer, Bill Terry, Fred Gimble, Fall Bears wtih Terry Receveur, Roger fulton and Toby Essics, and rabbits with Curt and Cade Cabrera
-
Far north Australia asiatic water buffalo with Dr Ashby
If the dearly departed also count then St. John river with Maurice and Will Thompson , hunting ducks, deer and anything else that looked delicious
-
Hunting whitetails in the Adirondack's with Joe Skipp.
After reading his posts I believe i would like to learn his style!
:notworthy:
Possibly go to Colorado and look for Elk too!
-
I want to haul RC up to AK or BC bear hunting. I know he wants to go, just go to get him to pull the trigger on getting it moving.
-
Ok, boys and girls. Showing my TradGang ignorance here!
Who is this RC that is a master of the swamps, etc? :goldtooth:
-
Alaska moose with Jim Shockey
-
Robert Carter of GA. Robert can flat out put game down and I don't know anyone that appreciates the game, the method and land more then him. And he is just a good human to boot. I'd haul him up for a bear hunt because I'd get a kick out of how much he would enjoy it.
-
Would wish to go back to the days of fred bear (old school ),but would settle for a water float trip with anyone from this site.Kinda like deliverance (without the you know) Seams to me you would be in great company.Jerry Jeffer has a tempting idea though.
Matt
-
Way too many excellent people out there I'd like to hunt this or that with, but if I had to narrow it down and this would have to be a group hunt because that's how goes, it would be going on a hog hunt with Curt and Cade Cabrera, Terry Green, and after (well and before!) reading Charlie Lamb' book I'd have to drag him along too! Sounds like fun to me!
-
Really like to chase elk anywhere with any trad gang member that enjoys a relaxing hunt..
-
Alaska moose with my son and hopefully I'll be his trad hero.
-
I think close up spot and stalk hunting for Grizzlies with any Tradganger as crazy as me :D And YES, we would eat the heart! Pack the Louisiana hot sauce!
-
Dall or stone sheep with Fred Eichler or my buddy Denis from Canada.
-
Would love to go on a Big horn hunt with Fred Eichler and use a grumly style bow with georgous footed arrows
-
Cape buff in Africa with Ed Ashby.
...or asiatic buff in Oz with Andy Ivy.
or maybe Kodiak browns in heavy cover with anyone carrying an enormous bore rifle right behind me!
Ron
-
If the Hunting Genie can make it legal...Jaguar in Brazil.
-
well i would like to come back and hunt with all the people i had the pleasure to meet and stay with thats if a certain Buddy would have me back even though i was under the weather so to speak self inflicted game would be whitetail deer and a bit of Bow fishing to boot. :biglaugh:

This crazy Cajun is game for anything! Fear the Cajun!
-
California Sierra's with Saxton Pope and Arthur Young. Any game.
-
Ron at his camp.
-
Australian water buffalo with Don Thomas
-
Anywhere with Don Thomas! Hell I'd be happy to lug his bow around for him and learn from him in the field and then just sit and listen to him tell stories around the campfire!!!
:notworthy: :campfire:
-
-
A week long swamp hunt with RC would be nice. I could take his knowledge and hunt several more times since that type of hunt can be done on WMAs on your own and on the cheap.
-
Deer drives with Barry
-
A thousand more wishes.
-
The easy answer would be anything anywhere with my boys, all of us sharing the same passion for the hunt were on.
If you take family answers out of the equation then I'd have to say a back country grizzley hunt with Fred Eichler.
-

GREAT RESPONSE! I agree with the first part. I really look forward to squirrel with my son this fall!
For the second part I would do bison with Tred Barta
-
Mountain Lion Hunt with Randy Burtis and his dogs.
-
Gaur, banteng, asiatics, cape, scrub bull, bison, yak and any other wild cattle we could find with my sons and cousin.
-
I would hunt Alaska with Paul Schafer or Bart Schleyer.
-
Big whitetails with Gene and Barry on the Milk River.
-
Anybody else?
-
Would like to go on a grizzly or moose hunt with our own Ron LaClair.
-
Montana Bighorn sheep (of course I would have the Missouri Breaks tag). I'm not gonna say who I'd like to go with as there are too many good guys to choose from. If you FORCED me to pick one, I might choose Cade Cabrera.
-
Alaskan Moose and Caribou with Monty Browning.
-
Geez, read through five pages of these to make sure nobody had already picked mine, and here you are Mike. Monty Browning for Alaska moose. Oh well, you can go with him, maybe I can tag along with Bryan Burkhardt and Kevin Dill. That would be just as good!
Actually I have had the good fortune to hunt with quite a few Trad Gangers for a number of different things in a lot of different places. Those have been some of my favorite trips, and I hope I get to do more of those!
-
1) G. Fred Asdbell- Mule Deer in Colorado and he has to bring the teepe.
2) Monty Browning - Africa
In both cases my big brother has to come too!
-
That I could do one hunt with each tradgang member!
In there State, Country, Province, territory.
-
Back country deer and elk hunt with Fred Eichler.
-
Roosevelt Elk in Oregon with Larry D Jones
-
My dad back hunting with me in the woods.
-
Fred Eichler; Yukon moose
-
Moose in the Yukon with Jerry Pierce.
-
Hunting anything with my granddad and great-granddad before my granddad had his strokes. I could hunt dust bunnies with those two and it would be worth it. Pop's never been the same since his son got sick. (Yes, my great-grandfather is still alive, and I'm 31. I know I've been blessed.)
-
I would probably go elk or bear with Tred barta and his buddy Dan.
-
Minimal kit (Bow, quiver, arrows, MREs, flint, steel, buck knife, tree saw, water), backcountry, early season, whitetail deer ....
wherever it's warm, and the bucks have velvet ....
with whoever is crazy enough to try ...
-
Mountain Lion hunt with Walt.
-
I would also like to go moose hunting in Alaska with Fred Eichler. He seems like a really fun guy to be around.
-
Best hunt I ever made was my first Colorado Mulie and elk with my dad and father in law way ack before i even knew his daughter. He brought 3 crazy shownuff Cajuns that had never been before either. Great trip!
I would find a handfull of traditional shooting Cajun boys and my pop and hit Australia and new Zealand!
-
Being the humble soul RC is (just know he is, you can tell) i’m sure he shy away from this sort of human elevation, but when I got the gist of this thread he was the first that came to mind.
As others have already stated it would be worth the time alone just to use as a “seed” trip let alone the :campfire:
-
Give me the Wensels and BIG bears in Alaska and I would be ready to die after that hunt.
Second choice: Give me Fred Eichler and elk in Colorado.
Third choice: Give me Andy Ivy and crocodiles in Australia.
-
I would love to hunt Buff in Australia with Andy.
-
My dream is to go on a black bear hunt with my daughter. She has had serious Health issues that she will have to contend with for the rest of her life, and just want to put everything aside and have some one and one time with her bear hunting
-
Well since we are talking Genie ... I would like to be transported back to 1957 and hunt the Little Delta River with Glenn St Charles.
:jumper: :jumper: :archer2:
-
I would wish to go to Siberia and hunt these.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siberian_Musk_Deer
-
x2 with Hummer3T. First post to the site and you all are very informing. Great site to learn from. Thank you all.
-
Holly Sonders (golf channel babe) waiting for me in my wall tent at elk camp.
-
Saw this thread and until last night I didn't know who I would
pick, heard Monty Browning speak at ETAR what a good story teller. It would him and great big Grizzlys,he's not afraid of nothing.
-
I hope that I can be so fortunate (lottery aside) to hunt anywhere with my daughter and her perhaps her children (she's only six now ;) .
-
hog camp with my buddies the FaKowE tribe, Rick, Dougie, Thom, Bob, Lin, Beachie, Jeff, Mel R, Larry S, Dragonrider, Mike D, and of course, the Squirrelbait! I know I missed a couple in there, but I have old timers disease so please forgive- you know who you are!
-
TTT, let's hear some more
-
Giant Whitetails in Kansas or Iowa with Curt(Guru)we have hunted quite a bit together but have never killed a deer when we hunted. Shawn
-
Poof...Iowa whitetails with Uncle Berry! I'm easy :goldtooth:
-
It's not a hunt but I would ask for accuracy and patience!!
Oh, and to get rid of the spare tire!!
:)
-
He certainly is no trad personality but it would be moose hunting on the kenai peninsula one more time with my father...him with his 65 lb k-mag, and me with my 55 lb one.
