Title: Rests/Side plates for Widows
Post by: buckeyebowhunter on July 26, 2013, 04:00:00 PM
Just wondering what you fellow widow owners prefer for side plate/rest material? My SAII is currently sporting one of the velcro style side plates/rests but I was thinking about maybe getting one of the large calf hair rests. Would like to hear some opinions. Thanks guys      :coffee:

I have a PLX that should be here by this time next week and I plan on using either a super thin piece of leather or calf hair.

After I wore out the rest that came on the bow from Black widow. I put a Velcro side plate and a Velcro rest with a tooth pick under it and I am shooting the same setup today. I think I got the bow in 2007. Probably put the Velcro on in 08.

The velcro is very durable. however I always thought the "square" calf hair rests that came on the widows looked a little better, so I made a custom velcro rest for my SAII, what do you guys think?

My PSA is in need of a new rest. I have been thinking about what material tp use. May go back with Velcro since I have some on hand.

Love the calf hair rests that come with the bow. On my 2004 PSAX I have yet to replace it and I don't know how many arrows have been shot throught that bow. The rest is still in great shape and still has alot of life left in it. When the time comes for a new one it will be the same calf hair rest. Also I prefer the larger model, gives you just a bit more wiggle room when using an arrow holder (quick lock).

I have allways used the widow calfhair and really liked it. Someone sent me some sealskin the other day and I cut it like the calfhair. Going to try that for awhile.

I have used velcro, calf hair, and the leather spider web rest from BW. I prefer the calf hair, seems to be the quietest to me.

I love the spider web leather rest that Black Widow sells. They look great and are silent.

When you use different types of strike plate material it can, and will effect your arrow tuning. a soft strike plate like Velcro or soft leather works kind of like a plunger. harder material like ladigo leather, beaver tail, or sting ray hide will be more responsive to adjustment.  once you become accustom to a hard strike material, it's hard to go back to the Velcro..... big differences depending on your depth of shelf cut out.

I just ordered a feather rest and calf hair rest to replace a worn out calf hair rest on my PSA.  Just need to decide which way to go.  Have never tried a feather rest.
