The Great Pennsylvania Squirrel Hunt will once again be held at Shawnee State Park, Schellsburg, Pa., on Saturday, January 6th, 2007.
We will meet at picnic area #9 right behind the park office at 7:30AM.
Shawnee is located on US Rt. 30, just ten miles west of Bedford, Pa. Coming in from the Rt. 30 side...go to T and bear right. Go across both bridges and up the hill after second bridge. At the top of the hill you will see the park office on left hand side. Make a left on road just before office. Picnic area is app. 1/4 mile on left.
You can pick up a license via the internet if you want to come in from another state. Go to: www.pgc.state.pa.us (http://www.pgc.state.pa.us)
It's a blast...and sometimes we even see a squirrel or two.
-
Count me in George. What time should I arrive?
I live in the Smethport area, Mckean co.
-
OOOOOH, I'm gonna have to get some squirrel arrows together.
-
7:30 AM would be great Jim. You'll have about a three hour drive...but it's all downhill 8^).
-
How far from Lehigh County George?
-
Probably 2 1/2 hours. Maybe you can hitch a ride with Phil Magistro, he lives near Reading.
-
George, Phil told me about this thread today. I will be there again. I missed the first one but I ain't gonna miss any others.
-
Who is going to handle the reservations for the lodge?
-
I suppose I can come and help all ya old coots outta yer trucks and cook yunzs lunch:)
-
do I need to bring anything other than killing empliments?
-
It's a custom that the new guys bring new york strip steaks and shrimp cocktails for all the other charter members... There is 15 of us:)
-
Dont forget the wine and cheese!!
I'm really looking forward to it- as usual!
Jared will be there and most likely at least, 2 of his buddies. I'm hoping the Scanlon family will be able to show up as well.
-
The squirrels seemed disinterested at first, but they are talking it up now. They seem to think we're a humorous bunch with the shooting skills of KoolAid-impaired cub scouts. I'm not saying they're wrong....it just pi$$e$ me off a bit.
RC....It's porterhouse steaks not N.Y. Strip, but I guess we could lower our standards this year.
Dale....No Ripple this year...we want the $3.00 good stuff.
Whoever is checking the lodge better get to it fairly soon, and get your nutters in order.
-
I'll be there too!
This year I PROMISE to be on time!
George, how about a pre-hunt re-con mission? I'm always up for a hunt. Maybe I could drag Scott out for a day, and I'm sure Joe is anxious too.
-
"This year I PROMISE to be on time!"
I'm going to be there just to see if that holds up. :)
Looking forward to this. Each year we get closer to actually killing a squirrel. I think this year we've worked up to at least getting a shot.
-
Does anyone want to carpool? I'll be leaving from the smithport area. PM me if anyone is interested.
-
Jim....If you need a bunk Friday night, the guys usually rent the cottage at Shawnee and split the cost. Maybe one of them will chip in here....Larry????
-
Red...just let me know when you want to recon.
-
OK George!
-
TTT for another look.
-
We need to start a poll to see when Red shows up. Say $5.00's a person, closest guess to his arrival takes all.. I'll say 8:15:)
-
I just had an I-dear, how many folks does that lodge hold? What a time it would be ifin a bunch of us spent the night there, had a camp fire, or fire in fireplace ?, stayed up half the night cooken deer meat over the fire and drinken diet sarsaparillas..
On the other hand, it could be a baaad I-dear:)
-
Roy....It's not a big lodge...more of a cabin, but one year there was about 12 in there...countin' kids. Someone needs to get callin' though to see if it's available and who's stayin'.
-
George,
The Lodge is already reserved by someone and they couldn't tell me who it is. If one of us has already reserved it, please post here. Otherwise, we will need to look into other places we could rent for the weekend, or camp at the Stout homestead of the missus will allow it.
-
George,
Do you know anything about the Shawnee Motel in Schellsburg? I'll need someplace to stay when I come up.
-
The town of Bedford is only 5 miles from this shoot. Many nice motels there..
-
Yeah, but Schellsburg is right next to the park. It's much closer than Bedford or Mann's Choice. That's why I was looking at the Shawnee Motel, I'm spoiled from staying at the Lodge for the past two years.
BTW, for those who have not been on this hunt you should check out the old threads from the past years.

-
Roy,
I was the big orange yeti in the blaze orange ghillie jacket.
-
I still have nightmares about that orange suit!
-
Oh God, I've spent almost 12 months trying to get that picture out of my mind:)
-
What, do you mean this picture? I'm trimming it back a bit so I don't look like a giant orange Easter egg this time. :goldtooth:

There was talk that your orange Ghillie suit was picked up on satellite camera. Shawnee Motel is a good place to stay. Very clean and less than a mile from the park entrance.

Does anybody know how to get hold of Gary or Frank?
-
I have Gary's email address. I just sent him a note to see if he is coming and if he has heard from Frank.
-
ttt
-
Anyone hear from Frank or Gary?? Or does anyone know who rented the lodge?
-
I haven't heard from either Frank or Gary, although I did send them both email.
When I tried to rent the Lodge they told me it was already rented and that they could not tell me who rented it.
If anyone here did rent it, please let us know.
-
Gary won't be able to get off of work to attend, but he sends his regards to everyone. I haven't heard from Frank yet.
-
Thanks Larry. Too bad Gary can't make it. He's a heck of a good cook. :)
-
And what was wrong with my cooken last year Phil?
-
Well, it looks like work is going to keep me from coming up this year. Knock one down for me guys!
-
You guys that are coming might want to pack some light clothes....supposed to be 50 Saturday. Maybe we'll find out if they will open the beach for us after lunch 8^).
-
Sorry to hear you can't make it Larry. How about if we just promise to see one for you. Given past years that would be an accomplishment. :)
-
Phil,
Just do your best. I understand ;) And I was really looking forward to some warmer weather too!
Larry
-
Warmer is right. It's supposed to be 60 there tomorrow. We may be hunting in shorts!!
Too bad you won't get a chance to use your license but there is more time to plan a Saturdya trip. Squirrel season ends Feb 3.
-
Larry...let me know if you want to come up another Saturday. You're welcome to stay at my abode.
-
Thank you George, I may take you up on that once I shorten my honey do list a bit.
-
Alright, I want some pictures! Come on guys, let's see some hero shots.
