I am interested to see what most people use for hunting. Taking into consideration you may be hunting different things, lets keep this in the Whitetail deer size game.
-
45# for me.
-
51@29
-
Could a mod make it so the results show all the time?
I must have missed that.
-
It is 60# for me but as I get older I worry I will not be able to stay there.
-
63#@29"
-
Right now all of my bows are between 55-58#'s @ my 29" draw.
Tom
-
45-51
-
43# for me. Gettin old
-
63# for the last 6 years. I still hunt with it but im going to hunt with my new 53# er some this year
-
40# for everything but Elk. Elk is 50# because I have too.
-
57# @ 26" draw, longbow.
-
Shuwwww glad to know I'm in the norm. I thought I was a girly man.
-
47#-50# at my draw .
-
After 2 decades of hunting with 58# to 65# bows and dealing with two shoulder surgerys, I've been very happy with 51#-52# bows the last 3 years.
-
49.5 this season.
-
44# @ my draw
-
Good poll. I hope it stays up for a while to collect more data.
-
Right at 50# for me, although I wouldn't feel underbowed for whitetails at 45#.
Sharpen those broadheads and pick your spot, makes up for a lot of poundage if you don't do those things.
AJ
-
54 pounds at my 30" draw.
-
60#
-
53 lbs
-
53#
-
45 to 50 lbs. Use to be 50 to 55 lbs. Actually at my draw length with my 63 Howatt Hi-Speed 45#@28" i'm pulling 39 to 40 lbs. I only draw about 26".
-
50 at 27in
-
53# and #50
-
51 @ 28" but my draw is 24 3/4.
-
Right around 50-52# at my 28" draw
-
54 , 59
-
#45 for whitetails. #50 for other big game.
-
55# at 28" is draw weight of bow, but I only pull about 27".
-

44-45# @ 26" draw for me......

-
51# this year dropped about 5# from previous yrs.
-
From 43# to 53# at my draw. So far this year I'm carrying the 43#"er.
Gerald
-
56@28" but drawn @27.5
Yet to kill but shot under a doe. Too bad the feathers don't cut :(
-
41# to 45#
-
I thought I was the only one who dropped down in pounds...LOL...I went from 75-65...( then I hit 55)then bit the bullet and got into the 50-55 club...
now( ten years later) I have a set of 45# limbs...and also 55...TD's do have some advantages...
truth is the 45's are quite fine for deer...the heavier ones are for Elk...
-
I hunt with bows from 48- 52 # and very sharp broad heads. I feel this weight is capable of any North American big game harvest.
-
73 at 28 :)
-
#58@30"
-
52 @ 27 my draw length
-
55 @ 29 inches
-
60# @ 28"
-
53# currently prefer 56# but never shot super heavy.
-
56# @ 28"
-
i'm shooting 58 and 59 lbs at 29" with my mojostick and assenheimer..
-
61# @29" Draw, 66 years old. :archer:
-
#47 lb bow
-
73-76@32 for most of my 47 years of bowhunting but after a bad accident that kept me layed up for a couple years I had to drop down to 62 lbs.
-
48#@my 27" draw
-
48#@28 closer to 45# at my draw.
-
56@28; draw 29"
-
60# for everything.
-
I use a 77
-
Since there aren't many elephants in my neck of the woods, I stick to 45#-50#.
-
The distribution of the results is pretty interesting. Looks like about 70% of us are between 45 and 55#.
-
50 or 56@30"

From 43 - 50. Carrying the 50 right now because of increased pig sign in the area I'm hunting, but may drop back off if / when we have any truly cold weather.
-
WOW! I was not expecting so many in the 40s. I figured most fellas were 55-65 lbs.
As for myself I shoot at 85 lbs but a 67 feels so good I shoot 57. ;)
-
Although I can shoot heavier, all my longbows and recurves are between the range of 49#-54#. These weights permit year-round shooting accuarcy and sufficient performance for all my 3D and hunting pursuits. I am primarily a Whitetail hunter with occassional Elk trips and smaller game animals as the intended species. These weight ranges with sharp broadheads provide the confidence for clean harvests regardless of the effects of the weather (i.e. cold sits on stand for long periods of time).
-
50# is lowest I hunt with and weight of my current bow of choice for this season....60# is the heaviest bow I own at my draw length...but now getting bows in the 55-57# range for anything new.
Using 50# now for deer season and also for any pigs that wander by the stand...used a 56# for turkey two years ago...60# the year before. Likely use a 55-57# osage bow this year for turkey or maybe hogs if I do the PBS Member Hunt in Georgia again. :)
-
I shot around 60# for awhile and have been around 55# in recent years. Plenty for elk as well as deer.
-
53# @ 28", I draw to 28".
- Jeremy :coffee:
-
41-43#
Started out with 41# over 50 years ago, highest poundage was 84, used 65-70 for over 30 years, now can't handle very much weight but found that 42# worked exceptionally well on my last big Iowa buck.
-
My lightest limbs are 50# and my heaviest ones are 60#, both at 28 inches. I draw about 29 1/2. I find myself shooting 52-55# limbs more and more. I had complete pass throughs last weekend with a 55# longbow and a 52# recurve using VPA Terminators.
D.P.
-
My ideal is 56#@26" selfbows or sinew backed bows.
-
46#@27
-
Very good thread, interesting stuff.
Tom
-
Man, you all shoot some heavy bows! I think my heaviest is 3# or so... With a quiver full of arrows on board! ;)
-
53# @28..... Dryad Orion w/ ACS Limbs
-
55# @ 28". I draw 29".
-
My go to bow right now is 47# @ my draw of 26".
-
My favorite is 55@30"
-
Everything I do is at 53.5 lbs at 29.0" draw (my draw length). I can handle more weight but haven't found a bow that shoots as perfectly smooth as the one I have and being a one-bow guy the lower weight helps when spending a whole day roving or a few hours at the range. It's plenty fast enough for me.
-
60#
-
I'm starting out. Went with 45#.
-
47# @ 28". Recurve.
-
54# Palmer Classic
-
50-60 My three to go bows are 55-58
-
I have a 43# LB and 45 Reurve. Shoot them a little higher with my DL.
-
46# @ 29"
-
50lbs longbow
-
54-58# at my draw length. Currently liking my new Blacktail. It is 62" long and 54#@28". Smoooooooth as silk.
-
51@27 RC or 50@27 LB
-
Howatt Hunter #45@28 which is my draw length
-
60 lbs @ 28"
-
61 @ 29 1/4"
-
54 @ 28.

Agree 100% Im in the same range and prefer my 54@28 for most versatile and all around tool of the trade.

45-55 lbs
-
61#@27", just had my draw length re checked at a local bow shop and had my Howatt Hunter scaled at my draw length. I started with a 45# recurve, then I worked up to 55#'s, worked up to the 61#.
-
47 - 50 lbs
-
43# @ 25" .... 150fps @ 500gr .... not smokin but sufficient. I'd rather be accurate than tough and I'm not capable of being both as some are.
