Last week I mentioned something on the Hill bow thread that I was on the James Berry build list. I am, as I have ordered a new Morning Star scheduled for early January. But, I also purchased a bow that was among James' completed bows. Now to my knowledge, he does not build "stock' bows, but for some reason this bow was never delivered and after the leather handle was installed, never shot. It is the Taipan model. A forward handle r/d bow that is 66" and 51# @ 28".
This probably should be posted on the Hill bow thread. But then, this really isn't a straight end Hill style bow. Anyway, the bow was delivered yesterday. As I opened the package and saw the bow for the first time, two words came to my mind. "Subtle Elegance". That term seemed to be appropriate to me as it was dressed in black glass back and belly. Additionally, it sported a set of double tip overlays of bison horn outlined by a thin maple veneer. The riser itself is from Brazilian rosewood and bubinga. This is accented by wenge and a quilted maple overlay on the back of the riser.
Some folks may call this bow a "Plain Jane", but to me, it is Subtle Elegance.....I'll post pictures later today and you can judge for yourselves.

Can't wait!!

Danny,
There's nothing subtle about a Brazilian Rosewood/Bubinga riser. I'll bet it's gorgeous!

I was thinking of buying one of those as a gift to someone. How does it shoot?
-
Sounds really nice. We'll be waiting.

As promised.

What a name befitting for such a beauty. Just jaw dropping.

Mr Berry knows his business when it comes to putting that "something" special in his bows whether it's r/d or straight limbed Hill style.
I see yours is no exception to that rule.
Congratulations!!
God bless,Mudd

That aint a "plain jane", thats a Jane Mansfield. Classy looking bow and I just bet it's a shooter to boot.
-
That is elegant Danny. Would love to see some string and full draw pics if possible. Congratulations on both bows.
-
Right you are Ric. A beautiful bow. Congrats.

Nice! Looks great!

That's beautiful Danny. You're going to have quite a winter shooting in your new ones! Hope this makes the wait time seem shorter on the Morning Star.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I did have an opportunity to spend about an hour this afternoon with this bow. I'm not one to get into speed, but I enjoy a bow with really good cast. The Taipan's cast is phenomenal. I was shooting some 2114's weighted to 550gr. From 15 to 25 yards, the was no noticeable drop. The bow was quiet and dead in my hand, although I later added a small handful of Terry's girls finest wool to the string. All I got then was a very low muted thump.
Other than a couple of busted nocks, this evenings shooting session was "uneventful". :saywhat:
Matt - It got dark on me tonight so I didn't get your pics. Sorry.
Rob - May not be as classy as your Tuxedo Wesley, but it'll do till the Morning Star arrives. Stand by for that one.

Absolutely stunning bow Danny!!!! I have yet to shoot any of James's r/d bows but I'm sure they are fantastic based off the straightend bows of his that I do own.
His work and attention to detail is impressive too. Good score

what a beaut...

very nice bow. would like to see some pics of it strung and at full draw if you have the time.
very pretty wood combo. I have wenge and tigerwood in my RER, and I have become a big fan of wenge. very subtle grain, but really pretty in good light.

Beautiful... I am really impressed with those accents and choice of colors. Have fun and congrats!

I wouldn't say plain Jane at all. I think it looks great. I love that you can see the edges outside the black glass. Great looking bow.
-
Taipan was the R/D bow I wanted they are so cool and the looks remind me of elburgs Cherokees for some reason but I never shot a Taipan.
his bows are so cool if it shoots better than my vixen I'm even more impressed..

Zane - The limbs of the Taipan are trapped out on the belly side. That reduces mass weight therefore allowing the limbs to recover quicker and produce increased cast among other things.
Jerry - Looks like you've been a Berry fan for quite some time. Nice stable of bows you have listed.
-
Nice one, Danny!
Hope to see you at a shoot soon,

Ric, I am a fan... I actually have a few more that I have not listed. James puts his full self into every bow he builds... you have a one of a kind masterpiece. Enjoy that bow.

Beautiful bow Danny. I can't wait to get my new one from Mr. Berry. He said he is going to do a few special things to mine as well, he is quite the fellow. I love his bows.
