Has any one heard a rumor about a minimum of 250 FPS for archery deer hunting ? I caught something in passing on TV but didn't get what it was about . If it is true is it pushed by the antis or the wheelies ?

Probly B.S. Game Wardens are gonna carry chonographs in thier cars now???

I will become a poacher

sounds like BS to me.
Has anyone seen a game warden pull out a scale and measure draw weight either?
In virginia we have the most useless regulation on bows ever. The bow has to be "capable of propelling a broadhead arrow 120yards"
first of all thats like 100fps or something ridiculously low. Also, I bet one of those kids compounds drawing 20lbs could shoot a light carbon alot farther than that. Meanwhile, an 800grain arrow out of a 40lb bow might not make it ...
God only knows why you'd be shooting 20gpp but the point remains how ridiculous it is.
Also, nothing says it has to be the arrow your hunting with ... just a broadhead arrow.
I can see it now ... "comeon son, you're coming down to the VDGIF 150yd outdoor shooting range to prove that thing can send an arrow 120yds" .... gimme a break ... it's unenforceable.

Minimum 250 ft. per second would put us trad guys out of business. Sounds like BS x2.
-
Probably "SPIN" put out by the crossbow companies!

Keep that nonsense up north!

LOL I have a 2000 hoyt wheel bow that does not run 250fps with a good heavy arrow on it...
I googled it and didn't find anything. I hope it just a load of dookie

Lots of ways that they can screw with us. Speed minimums, accuracy minimums (at long range). I guess we can fight back and ask for minimum arrow weights starting in the mid 500gn range and going up from there, or minimum 9 GPP of bow.
I don't think it is a real thing. Why start a war ?

Sounds bogus. Pretty well impossible to enforce that without including arrow restrictions. (ie grains per pound and etc.) Not to mention the fact that many more trad bows have killed big game throughout history than the wheelie counterparts.....

I would guess so, based on cave paintings of people shooting animals with bows 20,000 years ago, and probably much longer than that, compared with about 40-50 years with compounds.

Believe much of what you see, half of what you read and a quarter of what you hear.

BS for sure....

Well martial law will apply for my trad gear. Ha. They can kiss my tall tines!!!

Sounds like another Pete Shipley Idea from the late 90s, when he pushed legislation to ban trad gear !

Keep that nonsense up north!
Not all states are crazy up here, this is from the WIDNR regs. :readit:
Bows, arrows, and crossbows
• When hunting under the authority of an archer license, crossbows are only allowed
for hunters age 65 or older and any disabled hunters with a Class A, B crossbow, or C
disabled permit or a crossbow permit.
• If used while hunting deer, bows must have a draw weight of 30 pounds or greater,
and metal broadheads must be at least 7/8 of an inch wide and kept sharp. Stone arrow
heads may be used.
• Crossbows must have a minimum draw of 100 pounds, a working safety, and use at
least 14-inch long bolts or arrows equipped with broadheads.
• Bows equipped with a drawlock mechanism that is capable of holding the bow at full
draw without the aid of a hunter are considered crossbows. These are exempt from the
100-pound requirement but must meet the 30-pound minimum draw weight.
• You may not possess any poison, drug, or explosive-tipped arrow while hunting. :biglaugh:
