My friend WidowDoublelung killed a stud last thursday and come to find out, that is the same day I got this big 8 with stickers. I killed this buck about 10 that morning out of a natural hide built under a magnolia tree. It is in a thick funnel along a creek bottom that is only about 30 yards wide. On each side are mature, open pines with 200 yard visibility. On each end are 2 large, thick creek bottoms that deer use as bedding areas/sanctuary. Every deer that goes between those bottoms can pass through the funnel that provides good cover, or walk those open woods with no understory. The first time I hunted the hide, I saw 11 deer including 2 small rack bucks. It was the first time in the blind and I had seen some giant trees tore up, so I let everything walk the first day to kinda see what might be in there(I don't use trailcams). Saw this buck at 30 yards the second morning and was simply stunned, never dreamed a buck of that caliber would be in a place like that(Homochitto National Forest). He picked every step carefully and was very cautious. It took him several minutes to cover the 30 yards to my 12 yard shooting lane. It was nerve wracking as the wind was iffy and he was so cautious. He made it to my lane however, and my Thunderchild has a bloody spirit, so the shot was good despite me nearly coming un-hinged. He only went 40 to 50 yards after the Woodsman Elite had it's way with him. I'm blessed to live in big deer country and killed a giant 10 point last year, this deer just dwarfs him! The real irony is that I built this blind on public land to be able to shoot smaller deer that I would not want to take on my private land. Better to be lucky than good. NICE! I think. Please take no offense, but something about that pic looks fake. Got any more?
Awesome buck and hunt...Congrats.

Awesome buck with alot of character! Great job! I'd like to see a record book like Pope and Young for public land only trophies. Quite an accomplishment and honestly I didn't know they got that big in Mississippi. Thanks for sharing!

Someone told me you guys didn't have any giants down that far south. I see they weren't correct.
Nice one Brother!

It's only in certain areas. If you had to count all the 200 inch deer that had been killed in our area using fingers, you would have to get your toes involved.
-
Wow!!!!! Congrats!
-
DUDE!! Thanks for the second pic. That is one incredible buck.
-
Wow...great story and beautiful stud buck!

Great MS deer. congrats.
-
had to look again, and I thought I shot a big 8 geez that has to be one of the biggest 8s ever anywhere any weapon.
-
This should be titled (Mississippi Monster) WOW!!!
-
His 8 point frame without stickers is 170. Thers is one in Natchez I know of that is 172 and there is another 8 killed in Mississippi that goes almost 185 and makes the all time record book. Have seen several 8s out of Annas bottom area that are in his league as well. He was full of corn and food plot greens. The border to a private club that has a strict managment program and puts out all kind of expensive feed all year is only 250-300 yards from my hide. He had obviously been over there chowing down on their goodies.
-
That is an incredible buck! How you ever had the composure to shoot him is amazing! I've got to go back and look at him some more! :clapper:

There is actually quite a story with that bow. Jim had made me a Buffalo and I was seeing about getting him to build me a Thunderchild. He had just finished that bow and delivered it to the owner. The owner put it in the classifieds here about a week later. I called Jim and asked him about the bow. He said "You better buy that bow!" I did and he knew what he was talking about because she had a bloody spirit from day one.

Merry Christmas...
The rack seems out of proportion with the size of his head. Thanks for sharing I may just have to snag that image to share with some of my midwest enthusiast.
Wow...
-
I had another guy guess his spread at 28 inches looking at that pic. He is 20 inside. I'm behind him a couple of feet and it really exagerates his size. I did not do that on purpose, but it sure worked out that way!

Wow...
Here is another deer from our region this year(right across the river). His head is a little out of proportion too. (http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc447/swinestalker1/concordiamonster.png)

Congrats on as monster. How did you get a draw on him?. Was he looking away or passed behind a tree? I'm trying to limit getting busted on the ground.

Heavy cover over my head and behind me, relatively dark in the blind. Had the bow pointed before he reached the lane and just eased it on back.
-
Great time a day!!!! I love big 8's and that one MORE than qualifies....CONGRATS

By dressed I assume you mean on the hoof? Have not weighed a deer in years, but I would guess a little over 200 pounds, but I could be way off. His neck was just beginning to swell and had not blown up yet.(We have a very late rut). Could not find any thing wrong with him, but he seemed a little poor, however, that pic was taken after he was gutted and had hung in cold storage for some time. The biggest bodied deer I've ever killed weighed 286 and it seemed noticebly bigger than this deer. The biggest bodied deer I ever seen was killed by my uncle in 1983 and was weighed at the Natchez cold storage at 318 pounds. He only had a 14 inch wide 10 point rack that went 135 inches, go figure!
-
GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY!!
-
Congrats swine. I held a 170 in 8 pt before and it was staggering how big the rack was. That one looks bigger. You need to write a book on how to not come unglued when a huge buck comes by. I would buy it
-
Ghillie suit of just natural and normal camo in hide.
-
he's equally impressive laying on the ground....I love it when a plan comes together like that!
-
Thats a heck of a buck. Congrats!
-
Ok Mississippi is th3 new Iowa/Kansas as far as big bucks go!
Nice man, congrats on the buck of a lifetime.

Just camo in that hide since it has what amounts to a roof and is very shaded and dark inside.
-

Man what a buck, I think his antlers weigh more than most of my deer. Congrats!!
-
Holy crap! You southern boys and sticking some absolute giants. Congrats!!
-
That was great having a big magnolia in just the right spot to "hone" out a blind. We don't see them much here in the wild. At least not where I hunt anyway.
-
Getting rid of the big ones so we can shoot the small ones, thanks.
-

incredible 8pt. congrats!! you and widowdoublelung have done well in a state that isnt the most well known for big bucks. Must be a great gene strain running in that herd, that mass isnt normal anywhere especially down south...wow!!
-
I second what pete p said - doing us deep South states real proud. Bucks are getting better in La and MS - and yours are proof. Beautiful animal!
And I love that you used a magnolia ground blind! As Mr. Coe might say, "If that ain't Mississippi you can kiss my ass"
