Ok guys, 2 weeks ago I decided to switch to woodies, and ordered the test kit from surewood shafts. I tested all the weights from 40-45 up to 55-60s and found that the 55-60s shot best out of my bow, with my own handmade b-50 14 strand flemish splice string, cut to 28 3/4" with a 145 grain tip.
Here's a video showing the impact of arrow for reference. Please excuse my over use of the phrase "flew like a dart" lol I was happy with the results.

But I wanted to get your input on this set up:
64" Redstag5728 Longbow
14 strand B-50 Flemish Splice String
Brace height - 7 3/4"
55-60# Surewood Shafts cut to 29 1/2"
145 grain glue on field point
Total arrow length (throat of nock to back of point) - 28 3/4"
Balance Point - 18 1/2"
Calculated FOC - 14.347%
BTW, I did make all these measurements and figured out the balance point on the tip of the screw on adapter for Fletch-tite Plantinum glue (marked and measured) and used the FOC calculation formula from here:

Way to go! Nice video and set up; fletch that one and see how it compares to a bare shaft. I think you will see another great result. Good job. :archer:

Thanks! So now 14.347% was a little lower than what I was expecting for FOC. My carbon setup has an FOC around 21%, for you guys who shoot woodies, what percentage of FOC do you guys like?
My main goal with these woodies was I wanted to shoot some Zwickeys since everybody swears by them, so I had to drop the spine down in order to accompany a lighter weight tip. And I pretty much nailed the weight tip for the Zwickey Deltas.

FOC is never a consideration for me in shooting/building wood. I have 160 snuffers on one end, nock and feathers on the other, 550+ total weight = pass trough everytime. Why overthink what works................

Imagine that, me over thinking things :knothead: I derped and forgot to post the weight in my original post...
I was getting 525 grains with the 145 grain tip, bare-shaft at 28 3/4".

Never measured my FOC. But for me at this point it's kind of like my resolve never to use an ATM. Pure obstinance.
Nocks add about 10 grains and staining, finish and fletch adds about 80 gr.
You can't tell much with a wood bare shaft unless you shoot three and then shoot three fletched and compare where the two group. Im my opinion, anyway. If it's hitting to either side of where you're expecting you can jusge spine suitability.

The highest FOC I've been able to get out of a 11/32 POC is 19%. That was with a 9-inch rear taper, hardwood footing and 160-175 grain head. Did need to up the spine a bit vis a vis my "regular arrows." Could get more FOC yet with a super heavy broadhead, but would really need to up the spine. All that being said, I don't worry about FOC anymore. Most woodies with points in the 125-150 grain range come in between 10-14% FOC. That works for me.

Wood and aluminum are generally too heavy to worry about getting extreme foc. Tuning them for accuracy and getting the most efficient weight are more attainable.

I think you are a winner! Fletch, shoot, enjoy. Don't worry about FOC. With a sharp broadhead on 525gr wood arrows shot out of a 57# bow you will be able to kill any animal in the USA.

I've been testing on some old shafts with the marble dip and they turned out great! My fletchings are black and yellow (to match my string) and I tried white crown with black and yellow swirl, black crown with yellow swirl and yellow crown with the black swirl and found that I like the Yellow crown with the black swirl best. I have no cresting machine and even putting the shaft in the chuck of my cordless drill doesn't work well because the shaft is always off centered in the chuck and the shaft spins in an elliptical circle.

You may want to shoot em full length, and drop that point weight down to a "more standard" 125gr.

Even at full length 31.5" BOP the 100 grain point was way to weak. I wanted to shoot a slightly heavier head than 100 or 125 so I was happy with 145, which I got from a length of 28 3/4" BOP. I am also looking to give Zwickey Deltas a try. And also with a longer shaft and lighter weight my FOC decreases (which as stated before really doesn't matter TOO much), and I am happy with 14%, and with the way the shaft flies.
