Title: Samick Sage, What Rest
Post by: chacam on February 13, 2014, 08:44:00 AM
Fixing to buy a Samick Sage 30# and am confused about what rest to put on.  I am not sure about the differences between the flipper and plunger.  Which would be best for target shooting?  Any recommendations?  Thanks

I put a Hoyt Hunter Stick on, on mine.

I also bought a plunger to go along with it but, seeing its not needed with this rest.

I've got a Sage, and shoot off the shelf on a Bear hair pad. Works great!

I got I Sage for my wife.  At first I put one of the cheap threaded flipper rests through the hole in the riser.  I didn't like it very much do I ended up padding the shelf and strike plate with the soft part of Velcro and shooting off the shelf. Works just fine.

I could be wrong but, I was under the impression that a "plunger" is a device that screws into the side plate that basically makes your side plate (side point of contact for your arrow) adjustable for tuning purposes, and is used WITH a "flipper" style raised arrow rest (bottom point of contact for your arrow). The use of this system is so that you can more easily and effectively tune your  bow to your   arrow.  (If I'm wrong guys, please correct me so I'm not misleading anyone.)

That being said, my choice would be to shoot off the shelf and strike plate, and tune my   arrows to my   bow. FWIW.

when you say "target shooting" are you talking about casual backyard plinking or serious competition?
