Many of you know Scott Sanders on TG that goes by "Friend". Scott has a unique way of wording things that just blows me away. 1/2 the time I read it I have to go back and read it again to fully understand.
I recently entered the Michigan Longbow Association's annual Arrow Contest, and I did an OK job of building them, but I was looking for the way to describe how much work went into them. Well, up step "Friend". I asked Scott if he would be interested in helping me out with using the correct words. You see, being in construction, we kinda have our own language, and spelling and punctuation are not a big part of it.
Scott accepted the offer, and I believe he did a better job wording the description than I did building the arrow.
I wanted to publicly say thank you to Scott and see if there is anybody else on here that is happy to see "Friend" post something new, just to see what he wrote.
I really wish Scott was one of my Drill Sargents. It would have been my please to take an a$$ chewing from him. :biglaugh:
So, is there anybody else who is as pleased as I am with Scott's eloquent way of writing???
Scott's description of the arrows I made...

I do appreciate the way friend responds...to the point. Second those arrows look like death or at least like they bring death. I really like them.good job
-
I've enjoyed my conversations with Scott on this board over the years, and would like to meet him in person one of these days.
-
He and Killdeer both have a way with words. Always a pleasure to see either one contribute to the conversation.
I on the other hand am like you Mike. Working construction for 30 yrs. will give one an appreciation of the rougher use of the Queen's English!!
Beautiful arrows like always. I hope you were given the credit You deserved.

:clapper: :clapper: Excellent! Both the arrows and the description. I do really enjoy Scott and his use of language.
-
I bought those arrows at the MLA banquet just to have that description card for my very own!
Thanks for helping out Mike, Scott
-
You both did a fine job. :notworthy:
-
That's some super cool arrows. And Those words are cool also.
-
Always an eloquent appreciation for English grammar.....in dubiously!!
-
Friend has such an extensive vocabulary and talent for using those words, that I'm often reminded of a scene from "Blazing Saddles" where Slim Pickens comments on Harvey Corman's gift for words. (This is a family friendly forum, so I won't give the exact quote. lol)
Disclaimer: This comment is made with the utmost respect and admiration for Scott and his eloquence with the written word!
And Mr. Vines,
Those arrows are some of the coolest I have ever seen!!!! Spectacular! Your arrows and his words are equally deserving of each other, and that match was one made in trad archery heaven!
-
Both the arrows and description are works of art. Well Done!
I always enjoy "hearing" Friend speak.
-
Scott is awesome. I, too, appreciate his skills with the written word. Still, he's a humble gentleman in every way. I had the pleasure of shooting the "smoker round" with Scott at the KY Tradfest last year in Harrodsburg, KY and we had a great time.
Cool arrows, too!

Friend is a wordsmith, no doubt about it...
-
Oh yes! Just yesterday he posted on a thread and I had to read it twice. He is changing the persona of single toothed, shoeless Kentuckian! Hope to meet him this year at the Kentucky TradFest.
-
I do! Always enjoy reading his responses. Over and over and over. Till my pea sized brain finally gets it. Now I am by no means an idiot. But man that guy sure has a way with words. And NEVER has anything negative to say!
And great looking arrows Mike!
-
That's funny because I read that card at the banquet and my first thought was of Scott!
-
I too am a fan of Scott and his use of the English language.
I had the pleasure of shooting with him a while back as I was traveling for work. He was very kind in bringing his own bows , arrows ,glove , quiver, and arm guard so that I could shoot as my equipment was back home.
I look forward to shooting with him again.
I also shot with Mike (shed hunter) and his daughter that day and it was a blast .
Thanks
And Mike, those arrows are beautiful

Scott is a personal " friend " of mine. We get together at least weekly to shoot or talk about shooting. We rarely talk on the phone as he talks the way he writes! When we text, I sometimes have to read it twice to understand.
He is indeed a fine gentleman and ambassador for traditional archery.
-
A wordsmith for sure and as some have already stated... nothing but positive coming from Friend!
And wicked looking arrows... like none I've ever seen.

Perhaps we exist within a laboratory of cataclysmia, yet we live within the confines of our mind.
Within the refuge of the Trad Gang family, we escape the deluge and remain both comforted and guarded. The freedom and peace we enjoy within this sanctuary is not without considerable disbursement.
The contribution of the many rises to the surface of the soothing waters and yields the traditional life giving air we breathe.
The charitable and gracious expressions are most thankfully acknowledged. In depth unadulterated contemplation reveals such awarded expression as being deemed unworthy. Actually, I am somewhat embarrassed by the honorable expressions as I have typically strived to escape such visibility. This time I have decided to face this phobia and endeavor to both recognize and accept that we are all worthy.
Mike’s artistically and visibly gifted craft represents the traditional way in consummate display. For me, it seems quite imperceptible to realize, nor conceive the view from the summit which is reserved for those who have scaled the master level of a craft and/or artistry.
Thank you and warmest regards,
Scott

I remember reading hamlet in high school. We all needed cliffs notes.

I always love to see what Friend has to say. He is a fine member of our trad community.
-
In a tribute to Scott and his linguist prowess, I offer the following congratulatory statement: Scott's unique and eloquent diction, as most recently evidenced by his description of your beautifully crafted arrows, has eclipsed my expectations! Well done Friend & Mike. Beautifully written and excellent arrows!

Even on my best day, clearly I cannot compare to Steve's artful and beautiful writings!

No kidding....I have searched for Scott's handle "Friend" often, just to see what he has written lately. While my writing style is way different than his, I admire his structure. Thank you Scott, you are truly someone I look forward to reading.
P.S...nice arrows Mikey!!

His handle says it all. Scott is fine fella that I'm proud to call my closest friend (next to my wife) and mentor. He is a great ambassador our sport. He is always willing to help somone no matter what is. He has the patience to teach other's especially when it come to kids. I wish I could use words the words the way he does. Maybe one day, but for now I will just have to use my hick words as my daughter says.
Mike, those arrows are beautifully crafted.
