I'm interested in hunting pigs. My schedule allows for quite a bit of time off in the summer. Do any of you guys hunt pigs in the summer? Is the hunting done primary at night under a full moon or with lights to avoid the hot part of the day? Thanks, Chad

Ive hunted em in August and saw a lot of hogs with several shooting opportunities for my partners and I from sunup to sundown. Don't know what was happening during lunch time but the rest of the day they were moving. First light and evening like with everything was the most active.I know Ray Hammond is a fan of summer hogs. I think that as long as there is water nearby, you'll be into them.

If you have the time and money head to Australia. Our summer is their winter. I hear they have a pig or two down there

I have the time but the money.........not so much.

How about Texas, my buddy has a small ranch, and I'm pretty sure he would welcome you with open arms ?

Summer is the best time to hunt hogs in Florida, in terms of action. We have good luck early in the day and before dark. It never gets hot enough here to force them completely nocturnal(10 miles from Ocean).
We have a couple of clients that will ONLY come during summer or early fall becuse the hunting is usually oustanding and there's no pressure.
Every Fl. guide knows that the best hog hunting and fishing(for most species) in Florida is in summer.
Sorry to sound like a commercial, but it's true.

Tarp is right about FL. I just wish the WMA near my house would allow night hunts and have a summer season for them. It's like FWC is trying to protect/manage them or something. Exotics. Sport is nice but I say terminate until last one is gone. I wouldn't shed a tear. Meanwhile private land no restrictions. I just refuse to pay to hunt an invasive species in my home state. Now in another state where I'm not a citizen, that's fine and dandy. Enjoyed myself in Texas back in January.

South Ga is real good during summer. Hogs are real active. So are Skeeters, snakes and gators :biglaugh:
-
Deer are just a poor man's hog, lol. They're all invasive if you go back far enough.
Yeah, the WMA restrictions are ridiculous for hogs. The state, grove owners, and ranchers want them gone(that will never happen)but Fl. has short seasons on public land with a million restrictions.

I like to think of Hogs as the Brown Trout of game animals, not as invasive species. Heck, humans are the worse invasive if you think about it.
Summer hog hunting at TSA. Lets see hunt the mornings, hang out at the beach for a few hours in the middle of the day, maybe fish, head to Cowboys for dinner and few beers, back on stand around 7:30 or 8, hunt til midnight? Sounds like a fine time to me.

Well said, killinstuff!

PM sent. Chad

I plan to hunt them until deer season opens back up.

Jim's telling the truth.
they come to the feeders very well in summer.
No competition from fruit dropping or acorns dropping.
It's usually dryer, so rooting isn't as appealing.
If you are hankering for some good hog action, Summer is it.
Jim and I guide all winter, so you would think I would want a break.
I always make a Summer trip.
It's that good.

Should we ride together, Irv?
