Title: 2016 arrows from 60 lb martin recurve
Post by: Bernie in NS on April 29, 2014, 09:31:00 AM
Hi all,

Just picked up a dozen 2016 alluminum arrows, 5" feathers and wraps for a sweet 1966 bear grizzly (51 lbs @ 28"). The arrrows are 29.5 inches long. Put on zwickey eskimo two blades with adaptor and the heads weighs in at roughly 170 grains.
My question is are these safe to shoot from my 60 lb Martin? They shoot great!  Just concerned that they may be too light for the poundage and may hurt the bow. I don't think even with the 170 head that they reach the recommended 10 grains per pound.

Off the top of my head I believe those would weigh a bit over 500 grains, so you are over 8 grains per pound your bow should be fine.  If you like them use them.

They are heavy enough, but they may be alittle weak on spine.A 2016 has a .531 spine,a 2018 has a .464 spine.May be a better spine for a 60# bow, depending on your draw length and with a bow cut past center as most recurves are.

I would think them to be a bit weak......but if they fly good, use them. What's your draw length?

Like ron w said...........x2

If I was to buy new arrow shafts I would probably go with 2018's.

I draw pretty close to 27 to 27.5. So I may not actually be drawing the full 60 lbs. They do fly well.  Thanks for the replies.

That would put you a few pounds under 60, hey if they fly good use them!

They're heavy enough, but most likely under spined for 60#.

I started shooting 1916 easton legacys from my 50lb martin hunter recurve, because thats what a guy at the archery shop recommended they were flying a little poor so i went to another archery shop i bought the bow from and he set me up with 2018s and they shoot so much better i Have the same broadheads with the adapters 173gr is what mine came out to be and i have them cut to 29" as well
