Title: Woodsman Broadheads
Post by: jeffroa2001 on July 06, 2014, 11:00:00 AM
Hello all,

So each year the time comes where we begin to cut our trails and prep for the upcoming archery season. To get the blood flowing again(and admittedly I am bias to woodsman broadheads), I was wondering if we could see some pictures of past season kills or read some stories about some hunts featuring the woodsman?

Last year was a little rough here in Indiana, seems as if the deer completely disappeared after the third week of October. However, my brother and I were able to be pretty successful.  It was an extremely windy and rainy day in late October last year when I was able to see just how tough these broadheads were.   My brother was sitting in a treestand facing south towards a creek that runs east and west. The stand was placed between the primary trail and secondary trail when a window of opportunity presented itself. Just to the east of him we have a pretty large swamp where they love to bed down, and around 0830 a nice 8 pointer showed himself on the secondary trail. I believe he was using a Great Northern Lil' Creep and Gold Tip shafts with some woodsmans upfront.  The secondary trail is just south of the treestand about 15 meters to his back, when the deer approached heading west.  He was able to a shot off at about 27 yards as the deer was quartering towards him.  The deer ran about 45 yards and was done, very easy recovery. We noticed that the broadhead had a complete pass through on both shoulders, I was impressed! We were not able to find the arrow so I cannot attest to the damage(if any)the woodsman sustained, but I will continue to use woodsman's that's for sure. Hope you all have an amazing 2014 season!

Sorry to start of your replies with this little gem, but since it does not appear you were TG registered when I originally posted this pic a few years ago, it may be new to you.    :D

Always place Woodsman-tipped arrows back in the quiver when not in use!     :knothead:

Both bears were taken with the same woodsman, both pass throughs.

This little doe was a heart shot, the woodsman penetrated through to the far elbow with a 22 yard shot.

They are awesome broadheads... All I will ever use.  I shot this buck last season with my 59# longbow.    I stepped the shot off at 40 yards (after missing at 25!).  The 150 grain woodsman elite penetrated the meat of the left shoulder and lodged the the socket of the right shoulder, braking it on impact.  The buck went about 70 yards and piled up.

Killed an elk the first year (9/11/01) I hunted with the Wensel Woodsman. Quartering away shot, the bull went 100 ft and died. Love the massive blood trails they produce. Haven't switched broadheads since!

I shoot them.  Lost the front 1/2 of my arrow and the subsequent Woodsman shooting the above bear this spring because it went into the leg on the far side.  That head had a few notches and I am hoping to find it next spring.

I have been thinking about trying a Woodsman. How is the penitration with a 45# recurve, arrows will be 450-500 grains (aluminum with 125 grain points)

2Bird - the above were both shot with 45@25 Jess Stuart Rocky Mountain recurve reproduction along with a bunch of others I can dig photos out of.  I get true pass through and into the ground penetration unless I hit the leg bone going out on a bear damnit - that arrow and broadhead had killed a few critters together.

The buck shot last fall(with the same arrow) was at 25yrds and the arrow was 10yrds past him.

Arrows are 450-500g and 27" long
I don't think there is any concern with penetration issues on medium size game like we have here in North America.  Other opinions vary.

First year I used the original WW I took three does with them and my longbow.  All 3 quick kills.  2 of the 3 had great blood trails the 3rd was taken before a storm and got washed away.  I haven't taken anything with the Elites.
