I have been working non stop and I hate it. I'm lacking in my father duty, and nothing troubles me more on a daily basis.
I try to spend as much time as possible with my kids, but lately I am just not home. Not even my own business, go figure. :banghead: , and many trad bows to refinish, a snakeskin backlog to dumbfound you, frozen snakes to skin and stretch..etc.), etc.
and Ty went into my work shop on his own.
NO DIRECTION from me!
He had an idea in his head, and went through my stock to see if he had what he needed. He called me at work and asked if he could mess around a bit. Of course, I gave permission to the gifted soul.
When I got home (7 p.m.), he was still trying to hollow out a local whitetail antler handle to accept a broadhead knife blade BY HAND. He was scraping out the damn hole bit by bit with a curved file/rasp and a
hammer and nail.
I asked him if he wanted to use my cordless drill and he said NO. He wanted to keep it hand made.
11 years old, Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
I was exhausted and fell asleep very quickly.
The next morning (5:00 a.m.), a note was left by the coffee maker. He stayed up late, past his bedtime to finish his knife. The knife and sheath was sitting by the coffee maker to show me. He apologized for staying up late.
People, I could not be more proud. This kid did this on his own. I did not help.
He figured the width of the screw hole for the broadhead, and kept it tight. The blade is structurally sound and dead fast....no wobbling or movement. NO GLUE OR EPOXY!
The sheath he cut from a piece of Kudu hide I had here. Cut, shaped and sewn without any direction from me!
I am very proud of this kid! As all Dad's are. But being a part of Tradgang, I get to share!
Pics to follow very shortly!!!!!
