I wish I had all the detail about it, but the guy selling it doesn't have a clue. I will tell you all the details I know about it.

It has the numbers 350 on it.

The bow is far enough away that I can't just go shoot it.
HE SAYS, everything is in good shape.

I have no idea what it is, how much does he want for it?

I'm going to withhold that information until I get someone chiming in that knows about the bow.

I just learned it is a 60" bow, if that helps.

Thanks for the comments Craig.

henry,
i did that.  I did not find much.  But I am waiting on getting the rest of the info on the bow.  At the price he is asking, I don't think there is much option other than buying it..  :)

It is a Black Widow HF1225 made in the early 1970's. They also made a shorter version HF500.   I have one of the HF500's.   I can send you a catalog cut from 1974 that shows both bows if you want.   Jim

That is a good bow. You could buy it and take a chance. I would bet it's a shooter. I have a 1972 Widow target bow with two sets of limbs. This thing shoots great with both sets of limbs using the same string. It seems to be hard to sell as it is 69" long. I cant understand this because with the #41 limbs, you could hunt with it. Very smooth bow. I don't think you would be sorry for buying the bow in the picture.

The first takedowns by Black Widow (Wilson Brothers) were aluminum riser models. These were some of the best takedown recurves ever made....and they were metal. They were very popular in the early 1970's on the target circuit, and many hunters liked them as well.

The HF models are good shooters and I would not hesitate to buy it IF fairly priced.   BTW, I believe values on these bows tend to be well under $400 with most selling around $200-250.

As they say, "It's worth what you're willing to pay."

I also have an HF-500.  It's one of my "keepers."  Jimscol's is the only other HF-500 that I'm currently aware of.  The HF 1225s are a lot more common, and I've seen some pristine ones on "the big auction site" that sold pretty cheap.  From the pictures, it looks like your bushings are out of the limbs.  I don't think they are supposed to do that, but I could be wrong.  These bows are quite heavy for recurves.  Very stable, but I wouldn't want to carry one all day.  My HF-500 is so heavy, it will twist in the hand at release if I cant it much. They are relatively fast, accurate and are quite sturdy.  I accidentally dry fired mine when a nock broke, and it didn't effect it (other than string stretch).  They use dacron strings BTW.  For me, the 1225s are too long, but if I did want one, I wouldn't pay much more than $200 for it.  Hope this helps. - John

you really need to shoot it first if the guy is reputable then ask if you recieve the bow and you try it and don't like it can you mail it back for a refund minus his shipping and insurance costs,, if they say no I move on..

you really need to shoot whatever you buy and like it before saying yes..  with that being said make sure you know how to tell if limbs are crooked and just get a quick tutorial on buying a recurve from someone.

I've got a "shipped February 1972" HF1225 that is 60" 50#@28". Plan on taking it hunting this year. I would like to find another set of limbs for mine. Nice shooting bow but the arrow shelf is flat so you'll have to build it up.
