My 13 year old son is interested in shooting a longbow and is new to the sport of archery. He can currently pull a 25lb. bow and has a 28 inch draw. We are interested in advise on longbow selection for youth just starting out, with the desire to build up strength to a 45lb. bow for hunting.
We would like to find a longbow that is under $250.
What longbows would be good with a pull weight in the 30-40lb range?

Check the big auction site for Bear Cubs, Pearson Collegians and others of that sort. Should be able to find a good used bow for under $100.

Check out Big Jim's site. They have a big sale going on now. Good Luck!!!

Maddog builds nice bows for very little money, and they shoot nice and smooth. The wait time isn't usually too long either.
The classifieds here or RMSG are good sources for used.
Big Jim always has a good selection of used, and a great guy to talk to and deal with.

Check the classifieds in all the archery forms and the big auction site for a cheap ILF rig. You can get new limbs cheap as he gets stronger.

Mad dog or 7lakeslongbows.com
Give them a call and talk to them about what you want. Ask a lot of questions they will answer them all and help you with everything from choosing a draw weight to choosing arrows.
