Title: Tab Question
Post by: 9 Shocks on October 26, 2014, 10:41:00 AM
Is there a tab that is thicker, say in comparison with an american leathers glove?

You can get from craft shops, leather in whatever thickness you like and cut the tabs out to fit yourself.

Yes, but, there are some multiple layer tabs out there that you can adjust how thick it is, I've never tried one of those so I can't vouch for them. I know there are some guys on here that use them that I'm sure they will chime in on them. One thing I figured out is even in the same brand there will be variances in thickness. I hunt through the whole display when I'm buying a Bateman tab to find the thickest one. Even if I don't need a tab, I'll look through the one's at the shop when I see they got new ones in to see if there is a thicker one in stock. It's getting hard for manufacturers to find good cordovan leather so buy a good one when you can find it!

I don't know how it compares to an American Leathers Glove, but a    Martin Super Archery Mitt (http://www.3riversarchery.com/super+archery+mitt+shooting+tab_i4410X_baseitem.html)  offers all the protection I would ever want. Ordinarily I shoot with a lighter weight tab, but if I ever decide to start shooting my heavier weight bows again, this will be the tab I'll use.

Edit:  on second glance, the tab is not marked as being made by Martin anymore. It is possible that someone else has picked this up and started making it, with all the changes going on at Martin.  Hopefully, it is the same tab.

I use an American Leathers Big Shot Crossover and on occasion I will use a Bateman cordovan tab.

I like the BW tabs. I use the calf hair one.  The cordovan leather model is even thicker. Both are three layers, two layers of leather with rubber in-between.

Saunders Fab Tab has several removable layers to let you pick your favorite thickness. They are plastic and very slick.

Saunders Pak-Tab can be made to your desired thickness.  They are rugged, slick, and comfortable.  I've used nothing else since they were recommended to me several years ago.

You can order a thick tab from Bateman.
BW tabs are thick enough for me.

I have a Bateman 2 under tab on order, medium thickness, but I was told I could order the thick grade if I wanted.

Easy to make your own.  Tandy has various thicknesses,, cut several thin layers then cut out what you do not need.  I put a small piece of cordovan on mine.  Probably will outlast me

I have a heavy tab that I "overbought".  I thought I could trim it to size but it cannot be trimmed.  If you have a XL hand, drop me a PM.
